BAD PLUMBING (Part 2)

Eventually I was contacted by Cala Homes. Informed that only water should go down the kitchen sink. I have been a house owner for more than 50 years and never experienced a blockage.According to the drainage experts the configuration of the pipes made it impossible to clear and they had to be adapted. The pipes obviously were the major factorin the blockage. Cala Homes don't want to know. If only their after care matched the sales department.

I had a poor experience with the sales team who at times were rude to me and had a very bad tone with me. I just missed out on the plot i wanted, so when i reserved the plot next door I said if the original plot became available, could i switch, they said yes (though that was unlikely). I discovered that plot became available and when i asked if i could switch, i received the following back - "We are unable to accommodate plot swap, exchange is overdue" That was it. I found this very rude and unacceptable from the sales team and there was no justifiable reason I could not switch, they were being petty! One of the sales team continued to be rude to me for the whole experience and I even had to delay my home demo as she wouldn't do it with me. In terms of the house, the soundproofing is terrible. I have no doubt it is to the minimum standard, but you would expect Cala who touts themselves as being better quality would go above the minimum standard - this reflects their cost cutting measures! I also have a very loose kitchen tap, which I was told, they're all like that. Again, this is not acceptable and very poor workmanship. Each side of my three fences are a different colour. Again, I would expect better design and better quality from a developer like Cala. My whole experience has not been ideal and I do not think I would recommend them.

My wife and I decided during lockdown to take the plunge and buy our forever home to make a better life for out two young girls, we spoke with Cala who were building nearby and chose a 4 bedroom plot, we waited patiently for months and on the day the plot went live it was reserved immediately... Something didn't quite add up as we were never contacted about it, but we moved on.Six months later we crunched the numbers and decided to return and reserve a 5 bedroom dream home and tbf everything went quite smoothly this time, we moved in Jan 2022 and absolutly love the house... Unfortunately this is where the problems begin.The aftercare for getting snagging done has been a disaster, countless days off waiting for tradesmen that don't turn up, and when the do come they can't get out quick enough, using every excuse they can to avoid doing things. I genuinely think the plan is to wear people down to the point they just give up.Our garden is still a swamp and the grass won't take 14 month after it was laid, The site supervisor handed in his notice and signed off our snagging as complete while half of my 5 page list is still outstanding, Contractors turning up to fit parts... Without bringing the parts. My front door handle was worn because the door is out of adjustment and hard to open and close... Replaced the handle but didn't adjust the door🤦‍♂️the list is endless... As we sit I had an appointment for tomorrow so had arranged my work schedule accordingly, I was told on Thursday they'd let me know, left a voicemail on Friday saying they'd email me the details which they haven't... So no idea if someone's coming tomorrow or not.As a company they have no idea of the impact this has on people's lives. With two young kids and full time jobs, my wife and I are always on the go, we've jumped though hoops to accommodate repairs.In hyndsight I wish we had filled out the NHBC survey honestly but there is a fear that if you do they'll make this difficult for you.It's been the most draining experiance of my life, the aftercare has really taken the enjoyment out of our move... Let's hope our kids can play in the garden summer 2024.

Don’t waste your time with Cala

I was trying to buy a house at shopwyke lakes Chichester I was on Carla’s assisted move scheme they kept the house off the market whilst the 3 agents they instructed tried to get a buyer for my current house the period was 14th of January to the 14th of February.I paid a £500.00 deposit for them to hold the house.After this reservation they dropped the price of two nearby houses of a similar spec by £30,000.There was no reduction on my plot but I couldn’t do anything as I’d signed and agreed to the full price.I thought this was sneaky but because I desperately wanted the house I didn’t say anything.Had they offered the reduced price to me on the plot I wanted I could have reduced the price of my house by £30,000 in which case I’m sure it would have sold straight away.At the end of the period they were supposed to discuss with me the next step and what else they could do to help sell my current house.However although they still had my deposit on the 14th of February I received an email to say the house was now sold to another buyer!!!So on the day my exclusive period ended without discussion and whilst they had my deposit they sold the house without any care or consideration.Also I kept being told that Cala don’t build bespoke houses meaning it’s hard to change things and get things you want.They did accommodate some changes but it was a struggle.I would not recommend Cala it’s transpired that they are just about making sales and do not consider the purchaser. I had my heart set on the house and ironically a week later I had got a buyer for mine.I have heart issues and the sales team knew this I’m not supposed to get stressed, unfortunately Cala made me incredibly stressed.As I have nothing now to buy I have to stay where I am in a house I can’t really manage, there’s nothing out there that I can afford that suits me.This is all thanks to Cala’s underhanded tactics.Reading other reviews maybe it’s for the best.Be very careful of Cala homes.

Opposite ends of the spectrum

Our experience with CALA has been a mixture of good and bad. We moved into a new CALA home in Aberdour a few weeks ago and there have been issues regarding the quality of workmanship and clean, which based on our previous experience with CALA, we did not expect. In direct contrast our experience of the sales team, Sunnie and Dawn, has been first rate and consistently high since we first reserved the house in June 2022. We have predominantly dealt with Sunnie throughout the whole sales process. She is our main go to person for any issues we have, is always extremely helpful and always delivers on her promises. CALA are lucky to have her representing them as their first point of contact. So a great sales team and we wait to see how the other issues are addressed …..,., watch this space.

CALA North East of Scotland Customer service. Very poor. Not what was promised.

Our experience of CALA North East of Scotland customer service has been very poor. We purchased our home Feb 2020 and are very happy with it overall. Unfortunately the post sale customer service we have received has been and continues to be far below what was promised.Understandably there was going to be problems rectifying defects during 2020/21 due to covid but we feel this just became the go to excuse. We had to continually chase rectification work. The original 2 week snags were not signed off and some were not rectified until the end of the 2 years. One particular defect, we are still trying to resolve, is the wobbly stair case hand rail. This was raised within the first year. It has progressively worsened and is a health and safety concern to us as we have young children and elderly grand parents. The customer service rep came out on numerous occasions and kept telling us he had raised this with technical for a resolution. At the 2 year point we received an email saying there was nothing they could do for us as they considered the handrail movement within normal tolerances. No tolerance figures have been provided and no measurements have been taken. They provided me with a NHBC standards document to back up their assessment. Having reviewed the document I have found that the top newel post isn't plumb. In accordance with the standards the newel post should be plumb. This is what the hand rail connects to. I have raised this with customer service and sent pictures of the spirit level bubble being outside of the lines in the vertical plane. No response has been received. I have also asked for the details of their complaints department. No response has been received. I raised an official complaint letter and sent this to customer services 9 days ago. No response/acknowledgement has been received. I am now waiting for 30days to elapse before sending all the email correspondence to the NHBC. On another occasion we notified customer services about birds getting into our roof space (second occurrence of this). Nothing was done about it and then the birds had nested. We had to live with birds nesting above our master bedroom for 6 months until September. The noise was almost unbearable. We have not been a problem customer. We had and still have genuine faults. We just want to enjoy our new home. Unfortunately frustration and anger, due to Cala North East, has tarnished the whole experience.My advise to anyone buying a new home from Cala would be don't be pressured into giving them 5 stars on the NHBC review within the first few weeks of moving in. Raise any defects as soon as possible. Review the NHBC standards documents and investigate to see if the workmanship meets the requirements.

Poor quality, poor workmanship, poor customer service.

I bought a cala home and I am utterly disappointed with not only the quality but the workmanship also. My home has such a poor quality finish to the inside and outside. Drains at the front and rear of the garden that are off plan and we’re not originally in the plans that I signed to. Breached several terms of our agreement and according to NHQC. Interior was a poor finish and has taken over 3 months to Rectify. Back garden also floods. 1 member of sales staff was rude, obnoxious & lied about several things also. Very unhappy from start to finish and have paid almost £300,000 for a home that is no where near up to standard. I was due to have my floor replaced that was scratched when I first moved in by the builders fitting the kitchen but it’s not been replaced yet due to the fact it lifting the leveller up. It’s been 3 months since this house was “finished” the after service is poor, the workman ship is poor, the quality of the home is poor & the service is also poor. Incredibly overpriced for what you receive. Avoid cala, join the Facebook group and find out that there is thousands of people in the same boat who are unhappy with their homes. Do your research before entering and agreement with these guys and make sure you check allYour legal documents twice over as no doubt they will breach them like they have mine.
