APL has been the worst company I have ever rented from. They deducted more than half of my deposit, and it felt like the entire process was designed to ensure I would lose it. A simple water leak in the property took weeks to be addressed. When it was finally repaired, I was charged for repainting and repairs that were only required because of their delay in maintenance. I was billed £450 to repaint an area smaller than 1 metre by 1 metre by a questionable third-party company that appeared closely linked to APL. When I contacted this contractor, which seemed to be run by non-UK residents (I prefer not to specify their origin), to challenge the inflated charge, APL reacted with hostility. They were clearly unhappy that I had approached their so-called contractor partner. In my opinion, these contractors are not truly independent. They seem to be part of a setup designed to overcharge and redirect tenant deposit money. Even SafeDeposit Scotland could not help, as APL had been gathering selective “evidence” from the beginning to cover themselves. Bottom line: APL feels like a trap. If you value fairness, transparency, and your deposit, be extremely vigilant. Report every issue via email with photographic evidence. And they were very rude to me, even though i accommodated more than a dozen viewings of future tenants during my last month of stay. Its such a shame!
