This is why it is important for Landlords who review us to see who our tenants and Landlords are. Some landlords may be concerned about renting to a single mother, but in reality, single mothers work harder and are more reliable because they have no choice but to be so for their children. They work hard, do great work, and are often the key workers we build our communities on. Some come from more privileged and financially stable backgrounds and simply need a steadying hand to get up, dust off and start again. We all come in different shapes and sizes, we are all equal, and we all deserve the opportunity of a stable and affordable home.

We always knew there would be challenges, but hearing multiple no’s so close to the time we needed to move out started to feel like we were in a hopeless situation. From the moment I answered the phone and spoke to Karen I felt as if I was talking to an old friend, she is so vibrant and personable, and assessed my needs and wants in a very friendly but professional manner. Lease for life has been such a great support to me and my daughter. Karen who is a member of the team helped me from the beginning of my journey all the way to the end. I was in a bad circumstance where me and my daughter was in temporary accommodation and was struggling to find a private property to live. I was referred to Karen, who instantly managed to get me into my private property within days, where I stayed there for 9months, and she ensure all the necessary needs was met before my move. I was then later offer a property through my council and had 2 week before I had to sign my new tenancy agreement. I contacted Karen, who was very professional and lovely through the whole process, who not only did she manage to get me out of my tenancy agreement so I don’t lose out of my council flat, but she also help another young single mother be homed in my previous property. I’m very much so grateful for her support, without her I wouldn’t be in the position that I am in now.I would definitely recommend her to any and everyone.I’m currently living in my council flat with my daughter thanks to Karen and Lease for life.

My Council was negligently, and this could have been disastrous for my Landlord and me. I act for an extensive portfolio of various Landlords, so when a tenant approached me to rent them a flat, in the way they presented themselves, I was intrigued. The tenant was a lovely young couple, but I doubted their ability to pay the rent. This was when they introduced me to their Mentoring service, “Lease for Life Mentoring”.Lisa and the team were always on hand to work through the details; I was introduced to the Local Authorities Housing Officer and included all correspondence. The referencing is through a well-known referencing company; the income was a conditional pass, and all other aspects were a precise pass.Greenwich Council offered a bond to protect the rental and deposit to complete the financial security. It is impressive; I also just agreed a second tenancy with Lease for Life through Harrow Council, that’s even better terms.I will say, waiting for the first payment is a pain, it is like the councils are disconnected with the reality of the Landlord needing to pay bills too, but unlike previous experiences, Lease for Life keep chasing, working on getting all aspects done and dusted. Eventually (4-weeks later), we had the first and second payments come in simultaneously and monthly onwards without a hitch, so far.I’m not one for reviews. I work full time on a Zero Hours Contract. I have a good income and have always worked. But because zero hours Contracts are not considered secure jobs, referencing companies would fail me before I even make an application. Letting Agents were unable to help me, even though they tried. I WORK, I have GREAT Landlord references, and no one would or could help me. Would you please support Lease for Life, they make the impossible possible.

Thank you, Yolima; this is a significant point, The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is set much lower compared to the traditional rental market prices (this is why firstly it's so so hard to find homes at the rent level). Still, a 2-bedroom flat in SE18 at the LHA rate of £1350 PCM requires you to earn a joint/ several incomes of £40,500 a year, which is over 20% above the London typical wage of £33,000 (according to Average Salary Survey). This is before even looking at Zero Hours Contracts or those receiving UC support. So it's an extremely unfair system from start to finish.
