The team were so great at the Shirley branch in taking us through the process of our house purchase. Especially Sam who kept in constant communication and let me know what was happening all the way through. It was a slightly more lengthy process as the house we were buying was going through probate, Sam was so patient with my wishes of an update and always got answers and communicated with the seller and solicitors . We were also able to view the property again after our offer was accepted to take measurements etc. couldn’t be happier with the service and would be happy to work with them again.

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. Dealing with Pat Gilbert, (the manager of the firm) she was incredibly unpleasant, she was aggressive, rude, and completely lacking in people skills. From the start, she made the entire process stressful and uncomfortable. Rather than offering guidance or support, she was hostile, unapproachable, and frankly seemed like she had no interest in helping at all. It’s baffling how someone so unprofessional and unfit for customer-facing work is in a managerial position at an estate agency.

Spending so much money to buy a house and you simply give the keys in an envelope and send customer back is really not good. You did not even bother to call and ask whether everything is OK? Staff are polite, friendly and very accommodating, allowing us to view the property a few times whilst the purchase was taking place. The team at Mervyn Danes in Shirley provided an excellent service when recently selling our Mums home. The process of selling a much loved family home that had been in by the family for many years was daunting but I was very touched by the care shown by Vanessa when making the first call to book an initial valuation with Adam. I was also impressed by Adams knowledge of the history relating to the Shakespeare estate and how he remembered people who had bought and sold houses in the area. The whole team were extremely professional, and their level of communication was outstanding, providing updates on viewings, reminders of viewings, and feedback following viewings. Even though we were selling Mums home in November, we had a great deal of interest, and several offers were made after Danes had marketed the property for just over two weeks. The whole process was much smoother than anticipated, due to all the hard work, diligence and care of the amazing team at Meryn Danes Shirley. Thank you doesn't really do them justice

Despite being told by friends and commercial associates on how bad danes were I nevertheless gave them benefit of doubt and thought I would see there service for myself. Put an offer for a property I liked only to hear nothing from them, so went into office where directly infront of the entrance is Vanessa's desk where she was sat scoffing walkers crisps despite me coming in made no attempt to stop eating infront of me. I was greeted by "lettings is next door" to which I replied I'm looking for sales. I let vanessa finish her crisps so I approached sue who I asked about the property I was interested in and was told the client has accepted another offer. Something is not right at this agency, you don't know who you are actually dealing with as they are "all dealing with it". The attitude and service is dreadful. Avoid if possible

Really bad experience with Melvyn Danes

I had a disappointing experience with Melvyn Danes due to a lack of transparent communication. We submitted a verbal offer over the phone immediately after a property viewing, expecting it would be conveyed to the sellers. The next day, we were even scheduled for a follow-up viewing the following day, only to find out that the property had already been sold without our offer being communicated. We were told that a much higher offer was accepted but at the same time saying that our offer was not conveyed to the sellers. This oversight was extremely disappointing and left us feeling that our interest in the property, being treated with bias and deliberate negligence, was not taken seriously.

Absolute Disgrace of a Letting Agent I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this letting agent at all costs. Throughout my tenancy, I was met with endless delays and excuses when it came to essential repairs. Simple issues were left unresolved for months, causing significant inconvenience and frustration. To make matters worse, when it came time to return my deposit, they attempted to withhold almost the entire amount without any justification. Despite providing ample evidence and receipts to support my claims, they refused to cooperate, only conceding when I decided to contest with the deposit authority. Their lack of communication, responsiveness, and respect for their tenants is truly shocking. I urge anyone considering using their services to think twice and choose a more reputable and reliable agent.
