TrustpilotAwful New Website
The 'new' website seems to be a regression to how websites were built 10 years ago. The static list off images is much worse and basic than the the old website. You can no longer view floorplans in a new window, ideal if the floorplans are a scan and you need to zoom in to see details. The rest of the layout is confused and much more painful to navigate than the old site.It really confuses me that someone actually designed the website thinking it was an improvement. But whats much worse is that it was signed off, developed, went through UAT and was released without anyone actually questioning the 'improvements'. The Rightmove site used to be much better than Zoopla but now I use Zoopla as my preference as it's better than the new Righmove site.Dan.

Hi Dan,Thank you for your review and taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear you don't like the update to our website. We make thousands of big and small changes to Rightmove every year so that it stays quick and easy to use to find your next home. We know how important the property listing pages are and we took extra care when redesigning them, and they went through lots of testing with home-hunters. We’ve given them a fresh new look, and the pages are faster to load. Our aim for the new look page is to give home-hunters a better view of a property’s features all on one page. We’ve been switching on the page to people using the site gradually so that we can make changes as we go based on people’s feedback, as we know we don’t get it right first time. Your feedback has been passed on to our specialist Development Team to take into consideration. Many Thanks,Rightmove

TrustpilotNonsense website updates!
These updates are clearly a 'designed by committee' and UI designers need to be sacked. I have experience in the UI / UX design industry and there's no way on earth a qualified UX designer would suggested scrolling down the page to view images, which are also fixed at a size too small. There's no real size difference to using the quick look option in the details page, which defeats the whole point of click through. Agree with the comments on the previous prices missing, street view going to another page (you're supposed to reduce the amount of clicks, not increase them!) and so many more. For the high rates you charge agents I feel for them as this site is becoming almost unusable compared to how it was. I know a few clients (agents) who are considering cancelling their contracts after these updates. Listen to you audience and change it, and please don't bother replying if you're going to copy and paste a generic response from a previous reply.

Trustpilotimages and schools updates
hi guys, sorry to say your new 'improvements' have missed the mark. It's now frustrating to try and scroll through the images of a property, this functionality worked better before - if you select an image you're nowtaken to a single page of images which is a really poor UX . In addition, I can no longer break schools down into primary and secondary, which really isn't an improvement - worked much better before. I appreciate you've optimised the pages to load quicker but I'm sorry, this is missing the mark on the UX.

TrustpilotThey are very polite
They are very polite, they took 4 working days and yes they keep me asking (always at 5pm) to sign and send the landlord consent......(because I read all the reviews I send them the document everyday twice a day just in case) I think the problem is the fact that they have only one e-mail account and they receive an humongous quantity of documents everyday. My advise is to asks to your team if there’s anything that can help them to work better.

Hi Jacob,Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear you feel this way and that you've had difficulty finding a property. All properties on our website are uploaded and managed by the Estate Agent themselves, it's not something we do for them at all. Each agent will have their own company policies and processes which isn't something we have control over at Rightmove as we're not a Governing Body. When an offer is accepted on a property, some agents will update the listing to Sold STC/Under Offer straight away, others will make the amendment when contracts are exchanged, and some don't change the listing at all. There are no regulations in place that enforce an agent to make this change, as it's only at the time the property completes in a sale that it must be removed from the market. We encourage all agents to update their properties to Sold STC/Under Offer so that it's clear to home hunters an offer has been accepted, however, it's ultimately their decision. If you're aware a sale has completed on a property and it hasn't been removed, you can report the details to us.Our specialist Data Quality Team will investigate and take appropriate action. You can send the details of how you know the sale has completed along with a direct link to the property on dataquality@rightmove.co.uk.Many Thanks,Rightmove

TrustpilotAs a guarantor I found the process time…
As a guarantor I found the process time consuming, and unnecessarily stressful. Having three sons I have been guarantor many times, never with this level of difficulty. This was similar to a mortgage application, without the confidence that the level of personal detail being provided was being handled in a competent and safe manner. I hope I am incorrect. Whilst everyone I spoke to was polite, apologetic and professional, failure to follow up actions, send emails and poor communication resulted in delays. Whilst many companies are having difficulties with home working at present I certainly wouldn't use an agent who is outsourcing referencing to Vanmildert at the moment. I hope for the employment security of their staff they can resolve their current issues and training needs.

Good morning Mr & Mrs Jopson,I am incredibly sorry to read that your experience as guarantor has been time consuming and stressful, our process for guarantors is usually the same as our referencing process and takes on average just under two working days to be completed. We try to make our process as streamlined as possible, however in this instance it looks like this hasn’t been the case.Without specific details, I cannot look into this further for you and provide solid feedback, however, please email customerservice@vanmildert.net with your reference number, email and property you were being guarantor for and I’ll look into this with you.I do want to address your concerns around the level of personal detail you provided how this is being handled. I can assure you that our data, both in terms of handling, security and storage, is done so in an incredibly safe manner. We use the latest in security technologies and work closely with our teams to ensure they are regularly kept up to date with training on how to handle and store personal information. For more information this, I can put you in touch with our Head of Compliance, who can provide you with more specific information. It is unfortunate to see that in your case, we have had negative feedback surrounding our working from home policies, which we have previously been incredibly proud of and receive regular positive feedback from agents as a result. This is something I will pass on to our head of referencing to address as soon as possible, as of course, our service needs to be consistent across the board, for guarantors, applicants and landlords, as well as agents.I will also pass on your comments to our internal training manager, who ensures the team are kept up to date on industry standard practices, as I am sure she will be very keen to improve on this review in particular.Like I say, if you would like to go into detail on why things were delayed and any reasoning behind specific actions taken, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Personally speaking, I am very keen to get to the bottom of this with you.I would like to extend my apologies again to you, and I do hope you get in touch. We are incredibly keen to improve in areas our customers feel we need improvement, so all feedback is much appreciated. Kind regards,Jenny.

TrustpilotWaste of time
They allow corrupt landlords and agencies to place misleading listings. I was looking for a 2 bed apartment near Heathrow Airport. I used the filters to remove retirement and house share properties, and the amount of house share listings that remained, being deliberately placed with inaccurate basic information, is a joke. Half of the results stated it was a 2 bed apartment, only to find out it was a house share once you clicked on the property

TrustpilotNew Website Layout Is A Shambles
Please go back to the old layout on your website. The new format is NOT user friendly. You can no longer keep the photos on the screen whilst looking at the floor plan or trying to locate the property on street view. You can only look at one or the other separately. Plus you’ve got rid of the thumbnail photos which were very useful to get an overall picture of the property. The old format worked perfectly there was no need to try and improve it as all you’ve done is make it a lot worse.

At some point in our lives, we have all rented, and we understand the emotions involved in finding a property and how stressful the application process can be. Personally, I take no joy in responding to one-star reviews, because I know how I would feel if I were in your shoes and I really am sorry that the outcome of your reference hasn’t been as you’d desired.I’ve reached out to our head of referencing to look at your account and see what has gone wrong here, and I’ll be sure to update the review when I hear back. TrustpilotRevamp, not user friendly
I have recently tried to use your updated website. I was perfectly content with the previous set up. I don't feel this so-called refresh has improved the experience. If you could remove the top and lower banners. I am constantly having to move the view of a property's pictures of rooms up and down to get an idea of its overall look. The whole experience made me feel like I was peering through a letterbox, claustrophobic, and unlikely to continue viewing a property on your website. I eventually switched to a rival agent's site to view it properly, probably not what you had envisaged when revamping the site. If it wasn't broke don't fix it. I hope this helps

Agent replied · 24 September 2025
Hi Marisa,
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback and we're sorry to hear of your experience.
Here at Rightmove, we are the advertising website for Estate and Letting Agents. We don't have any direct involvement with the selling or renting process of properties as we aren't an Estate Agent ourselves.
In the first instance, I would recommend raising a formal complaint in writing to your Estate Agent so that they’re aware of this and have the opportunity to look into this for you.
Once you’ve gone through the agent’s in-house complaint’s procedure, you can then escalate it to the appropriate Governing Body if the outcome of your complaint isn’t satisfactory. We’re not a governing body here at Rightmove which means that we don’t have regulatory or enforcement powers over agents or landlords.
If there's anything else we can do to help, you can also contact talk-to-us@rightmove.co.uk for more direct support.
Many thanks,
Rightmove

TrustpilotRight move? No movement
I'm trying to rent a property in the north east having started a new job and having moved from the south of England. I feel like a pariah. No landlord will touch me due to me not having previously rented, even though I've owned a house for over 20 years. My workplace will vouch for me but that apparently isn't good enough. there appears to be few available properties and very few ever even respond. Holding fees are wanted with the promise it will be kept when I inevitably fail the references. There's nobody to contact, every phoneline goes nowhere. It's a hellscapeUtterly depressing state of affairs. Not a single estate agent appears interested in helping. Nobody returns calls. I have the money to move in straight away.

TrustpilotLOTS OF ISSUES WITH USING WEBSITE
Had problems using the site for about a year or more. Won't let me log out unless I try a dozen times. When I then log in there is a constant problem trying to display my saved properties and searches. It keeps saying "sorry there is a problem at our end". My Firefox browser is up to date, have previously been advised by Rightmove technical to empty cache etc which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. This is particularly annoying as any other sites I have open then require to log in all over again. Would love to know if other people are experiencing these problems. You now have competition with On The Market, much quicker and more responsive site. PLEASE SPEND SOME MONEY AND SORT OUT THE WEB DESIGN!

TrustpilotLandlords Avoid using Van Mildert as a tenant reference agent.
As a landlord the estate agent uses Van Mildert as a credit and reference check agency to check on the suitability of a tenants before signing an AST. It’s shocking what Van Mildert provide as reference detail. In short nothing that’s worth any value and with no detail. They recommended as a ‘good tenant’ someone who had no job, was on benefits, who lived in 3 properties in one year. Their guarantor was a low paid chamber maid who did not have the financial means to be a guarantor. They provide no supporting details. (Not surprising) Companies like this should be made accountable for the Positive reference they give in the event of the tenant not being able to afford rents. Companies like this should come clean on their real business model and relationship with estate agents. To sell landlord insurance and I assume the agents gets a commission. It’s unethical and probably illegal. A second reference was equally bad.

Hi Ravi,Thank you for your review. I apologise you’ve had a negative experience with Van Mildert. Our reference checks cover three specific elements:• Previous landlord check • Employment check • Credit checkWhen we pass a tenant, this information is made available to you and your agent. Our referencing process is a recommendation to you; we have no final say in who you decide to place in your property, but we do provide you with the tools you need to make an informed decision. It is not in our interests to judge people based on their job status. It is not in our interests to determine whether or not a ‘chamber maid’ is worthy of being a guarantor. We carry out the same checks as outlined above on guarantors as we do on applicants and provide you, the landlord, with that information. If you would like another copy of this, please email: customerservice@vanmildert.net and we can provide you with this.Kind regards,The Van Mildert Team

TrustpilotIssues with current website layout.
Rightmove recently updated their website and as a result some important search element has been taken out making it less usable than before. These important search items include navigating for primary and secondary schools separately and their distance to the property. This is the most important element in terms of property search especially to potential clients with young families. The area view on Google map has been changed making it difficult to get a glim of how the surrounding area of the property looks like, and the layout of the properties’ images is a bit confusing.

TrustpilotWe lost 2 weeks of rent in the middle of a pandemic
As with the majority of the feedback on this page, we've had a terrible experience with this referencing company. They took two weeks to complete the process, pestering us on the phone and hounding TWO guarantors which they either refused or pushed to change their mind with their unrealistic, invasive referencing check, for a simple rental flat. As a result, we have lost 2 weeks of rent we've not been able to benefit from, and are now forced to pay in instalments. All whilst in the middle of a pandemic. Although you will probably respond to this with excuses and denying your responsibility and utter incompetence, as you have done with other comments on this page, I will personally make sure to tell everyone to never trust your company, and get this feedback across to your company, our agency and our landlord.

Hi Sonia,I am sorry to hear you have had a negative experience when being referenced by Van Mildert.Without details of a particular reference, all I can offer are high level responses. We reference thousands of people every week and therefore cannot look into any claims without more information from tenants. As with everyone who responds, I reach out via Trustpilot and also welcome all of our reviewers to email me at customerservice@vanmildert.net with your full name, the address you were applying to and your reference ID and I can support you further, I can then also update your review accordingly (note: please do not post address and other identifiable information on a public platform).I’m sorry to hear that your reference process took two weeks. This is not all that common for us, our average turnaround is just under one working day and can take anywhere from five minutes to a few weeks, as you have experienced, depending on the information we are given upfront by tenants. Our referencing criteria for all of our applicants and their guarantor(s) cover three high level aspects:• Landlord reference• Employment reference• Credit check We are trusted by some of the largest agents in the UK as a result of our thorough reference checks. Without knowing your personal experience, if there are any red flags or challenges in obtaining the above information, we will need to investigate this further. This usually relies on us communicating and collaborating with our applicants in order to get as much information as we can to help them pass.By UK law, we are also required to reference guarantors in exactly the same way, and the same rules as above apply. If there are any red flags or difficulties obtaining the information, we need to investigate this further. It is not in our best interest to fail applicants and we try our hardest to ensure all genuine applicants are given the best fighting chance of being accepted by landlords. However, as I’m sure you have seen reading some of the other reviews, the final decision does not lie with us, we can only provide all the information we can provide in order to get you in your home as fast as possible. Like I mentioned above, please get in touch if you would like us to explain this to you in full, or please ask your agent to speak to their account manager and we can get to the bottom of this.Kind regards,The Van Mildert Team.

Good afternoon Neil, I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a negative experience with Van Mildert and the rent guarantee and legal expenses cover we provide.I have reached out to our claims department and my colleague has confirmed he spoke with you this morning to discuss this as there seems to have been some confusion regarding your policy. When you initially took out the policy, you were emailed policy documentation which provides all of the necessary information related to your rent guarantee and legal expenses cover. The policy documents stipulate that valid notice needs to be served for rent guarantee payments to be made, if not, you are responsible for the legal aspects of pursing the tenant for arrears and damages.Your policy also does not stipulate that damages are directly paid/reimbursed by the insurer at any point. Again, these are pursued from the tenant via the correct legal channels.I’m sincerely sorry that there has been confusion regarding your policy and we are keen to discuss this further with you, I understand you are in communication with my colleague, but you can also email customerservice@vanmildert.net if you would like to chat about this further.Kind regards,Van Mildert
