TrustpilotSOUTH CROYDON BRANCH - ELLIOT PURCELL
We sold our house in Dec 2020 finally and are very very happy in our new house. Our house was under off 5 times so it was a long exhausting process due to the changing situation for potential buyers with furlough etc but Elliot Purcell was awesome, very committed to helping us and getting the job done, even negotiated for us and guided us on the house we bought. He guided us through a number of tricky situations, was always thinking of plan B and cut through the Bull S___ so we always had very frank but respectful discussions which is the way this process needs to be. If you are assigned Elliot Purcell you will be good hands - just listen to what he has to say, he knows what he is doing!

GoogleJust purchased our first property with Barnard Marcus as our Estate Agents and had a great experience. There were a few small issues mostly relating to the pandemic, but Elliot did a great job of quickly solving them and keeping us informed throughout the process. We also viewed a number of other properties when we were looking and all the staff seemed very friendly and not pushy - which went a long way! Thanks to all!PositiveQuality, Professionalism

TrustpilotNo idea whatsoever
I used the letting service in Clapham for seven years. I bitterly regret not changing in the first year. 1) The property management section was useless. There was no relationship with plumbers/electricians/other contractors. Only one quote was ever given unless I objected. If the same job had to be redone a few months later the same contractor would be used with no question of querying the quality of the first job. The property manager changed regularly - I communicated with 11 in the course of 7 years. Three months after they took over the flat they recommended replacing a 'broken' blind (it had got stuck) and changing two of the mattresses. The woman I spoke to had no idea that the flat was a new build with new furniture and fittings or even what condition it was in. 'Replace it' was always the answer. We had several leaks in the flat but no one ever telephoned or texted - an email would be sent with the message, 'How would you like us to proceed?' Urgency was an alien concept. When we finally took over the flat it was a mess, with several outstanding jobs to be done including the repair of the balcony doors, which had been an issue for over two years. It was sorted in two weeks. If there was a problem over a bank holiday weekend or Christmas there was never anyone to deal with it. Finally, the agency was unable to do an effective handover of the utilities when the tenants moved out. There were no meter readings and it took repeated emails to find out the names of the suppliers. They were uninterested in ensuring I got all four sets of keys back from the tenants. I gave up chasing them and changed the locks.2) The actual letting service was efficient in that we rarely had more than a few days between tenants but the information was dire. We were never advised what costs would be incurred. We had to fight for a rebate where we had been charged wrongly. Letting conversations hinged round how quickly they could do a deal which often meant they advised a reduction in rent which we didn't always agree with. We ended up securing less rent than other landlords in the same block who also had no problem with voids. One woman in the lettings office said she recommended a low rent because then the flat would be let before Christmas which was good for us and she would get a bonus.I've let a house and a flat with other companies and these are the worst agents I have ever encountered.

TrustpilotUseless agent
I registered my interest in buying a property with this estate agent in Feltham and never heard from them again. No follow‑up call, no email, nothing. It’s disappointing,

TrustpilotEvan Dyer went above and beyond what I could reasonably expected
I cannot praise Evan Dyer, and the team at the Feltham Office, highly enough. As executor of my cousin's estate I contracted Barnard Marcus to handle the sale of his house. The property was on the market within days, there was a large number of viewings and several realistic offers were made very quickly.

GoogleWe can’t recommend Elliot enough. Their service has been exceptional. He personally drove to our solicitors to hand deliver our completion paperwork to ensure we moved in on time. He was on holiday when we moved in but Michael was fantastic also and they loaned us a 4G dongle as our broadband was still not installed.
Another mention should be made to their mortgage advisor Timea too who was fantastic throughout. All in all, Barnard Marcus really helped and we would definitely look to use them again in the future when buying a new home and would definitely recommend them to anyone.PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism

Dodgy, Dodgy, Dodgy. Do not even think about Barnard Marcus, let alone Streatham / Mitcham branch. Awful, Awful, Awful experience dealing with Dodgy Manager, Dodgy team, Dodgy company. If you want Dodgy Dave and his team of merry-men to waste your time, then this is the right place for you. Cannot stress how bad this company is. 70% bad reviews cannot be wrong. I wish I had seen these reviews before stepping into their office.

TrustpilotAbsolutely shocking service from…
Absolutely shocking service from Worcester park branch. Unprofessional, rude and very unwilling to help. Unorganised and unprofessional Charlie was very keen to take a lot of money and continuously made excuses for the equally useless land lady who unlawfully asked for money from the new tenant to pay in to her PERSONAL bank account. (Explained below) (ADDRESS is 3 mercury court in Worcester park) False advertisement was advertised on the property, which ultimately made the process longer and VERY stressful. The landlady asked for a £120 fee for ‘admin fees’ to be paid in to the land lady’s personal bank account, which legally she is meant to pay for. It is completely not down to tenants. My friend was told a number of times she could move in to the property on 3/4 occasions and then came with excuses as to why she couldn’t each time. Charlie told my friend she was able to move in to this property the day after leaving her other rented property, ultimately leaving her homeless. My friend now has no home, is living out of bags and is suffering mentally with this situation. This is being taken further .

TrustpilotWorst renting experience
I had the worst renting experience in London with this agency. They asked us to move out of the property without providing the required two months’ notice. When we requested the notice, the branch manager Andreja refused. He also showed up at the property in an unfriendly and unprofessional manner. The property management team is also lack of communication.

TrustpilotDisappointing Experience with Wallington Branch
I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Barnard Marcus, specifically their Wallington branch, and feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with the level of service provided. The most concerning aspect of this experience involved Mark, the lettings manager. My daughter provided all the necessary details about her circumstances, including her strong financial position (offering to pay 6+ months’ rent upfront), the backing of a qualifying guarantor, and a reliable family background. We also outlined her long-term housing plans, emphasising her preference for renting over securing a mortgage due to her personal ethos. This demonstrated her commitment to stability and her suitability as a reliable tenant.Despite these facts, Mark failed to effectively present her profile as a credible, financially solid, and reliable tenant to the landlord. This oversight was both unreasonable and deeply disappointing, as it is a fundamental role of an agent to advocate for strong tenant applications and facilitate a thorough discussion with the landlord.Landlords rely on agencies to guide them in selecting tenants for their properties, trusting that they will receive professional and informed advice. The failure to deliver such a basic service raises the question of why landlords would engage an agency if their role in representing tenants is so poorly executed. If agents cannot provide this level of support and insight, landlords may as well handle tenant selection themselves without paying for agency representation. This experience has revealed a concerning lack of professionalism and competence in handling what should have been a straightforward process. It is disappointing to see such a lapse in service from an established agency like Barnard Marcus, whose reputation should be built on trust, expertise, and delivering value to both landlords and tenants.I hope this feedback encourages the branch to reassess their approach to tenant applications and landlord communication to ensure such situations are avoided in the future. Based on my experience, I would be hesitant to recommend Barnard Marcus to others.

TrustpilotBarnard Marcus, Mitcham
I have just sold a house in Pollards Hill, Mitcham, and thanks to Barnard Marcus I got more or less the price that I wanted and a relatively straightforward sale.I can't thank Ali and his team enough... They proved themselves very proactive, stepping in to negotiate sales terms at crucial stages and ensuring that every step of the process was efficient. The house received offers almost straightaway and the eventual buyer was found within 6 weeks as we were adamant that the sale price should be the asking price.

TrustpilotWorst All round Service Ever Experience
We began the process of purchasing our first property in Aug. 2019. We were hesitant because of the unprofessional Barnard Marcus Estate Agent but prepared to look past this. Then the brand new property had a flood. The BM Estate Agent ensured that the necessary fixes will be made. We wanted to utilise the Help2Buy Scheme before it expired so we payed the £500 refundable reservation fee and the £650 to begin the Barnard Marcus buying process fee. A month later the leak wasn't sorted and we wanted to back out of this process as the Service provided by Barnard Marcus Epsom Branch was further declining! None of the surrounding properties were sold and the Estate Agent, was not responding to emails/calls. Then the Barnard Marcus Mortgage Broker resigned without notifying us and all of our records no longer existed! We contacted the CLC Lawyers, recommended by Barnard Marcus, who told us they couldn't assist us as are not purchasing the building. It is almost Feb 2020 and nothing is resolved, we haven't received our money back or even a returned phone call/email, we have been into the branch numerous times with no resolution. We feel robbed & scammed.

Trustpilotholding deposit taken before offer submission, property stayed advertised, deposit retained
The agent told us we had to pay a holding deposit before they would even submit our offer. We paid to proceed, yet the property was never taken off the market and continued to be advertised on Rightmove/Zoopla throughout (dated screenshots available).

TrustpilotDon't trust anyone from Barnard Marcus
Don't trust anyone from Barnard Marcus. What they say to you will be very different to the reality. They blamed the tenant (to the landlord concerned) for not giving access to the property for sales viewings; when the reality was their inability to find prospective buyers. They would ring the tenant again and again asking to view the property in 2 hours knowing that was usually unacceptable to most people. And when the tenant said come tomorrow and not in 2 hours, Barnard Marcus said no as there weren't any prospective buyers at all. Do not trust Barnard Marcus.

TrustpilotAbsolutely Unprofessional
Absolutely Unprofessional! Would never recommend. We pulled out of a property due to it having mould, they offered to get some of it taken care of but not all. The property was not in good condition. Fire place broken, lights and curtains broken. No handover to inform us of any of this. Gave us keys before do an inventory check. We gave the keys right back after seeing the mould. Had already paid 5 weeks deposit and 1 months rent in full. Its been nearly 4 weeks without a refund. They have not responded to emails and never contact us, we have to call the office every time. Contacted TDS and was informed to get legal advise. The sad part is most of this could have been processed or received better by means of communication. The Agent was Nana AkotoI woulds advise not to use him or the branch in Elephant & Castle area

GoogleFrom start to finish Elliot Purcell made the buying of our first home an enjoyable experience. Elliot made sure to answer all of our questions and kept us up to date throughout the process. We had heard horror stories, of transactions taking months and ours was fairly straightforward (just over 2 months from offer being accepted to completion). Following on from a fairly poor structural survey, Elliot was also vital in the negotiations. He was always friendly, professional and engaging. Thank you Elliot!

GoogleBarnard Marcus and their entire team have been exceptional throughout what has been a very frustrating set of circumstances. Due to a number of unforeseen delays and complications we ended up waiting for 8 months to complete on an empty and unoccupied property with no chain. Everyone from our Bank, Solicitors and “Help to buy” were awful, making countless mistakes which ended up costing us weeks at a time. Barnard Marcus and their estate agent team were always in the background, chasing, clarifying and sometimes just exercising shear will power to push this property to completion.
A special thanks to Elliot Purcell who I could tell had become as emotionally invested in our purchase as we were over the 7 months he was facilitating it. Throughout this process he has been honest at all times whilst offering me frank and simple explanations where my own solicitors had failed. His level of communication was above and beyond making sure that I was always in the loop on developing problems. I can honestly say that I had an immense feeling of relief whenever Elliot called me as I knew he would be fighting to sort the problem.
Due to the difficult nature of this purchase more than the usual amount of pressure was placed on Barnard Marcus’s mortgage advisor Paul Simey. Again, he provided us perfect service and was a constant source of advice through what I remember was some very stressful months. We ended up having to complete 2 mortgage applications due to unforeseen circumstances and he took each in stride quickly and efficiently.

TrustpilotI have had my money stolen by Barnard…
I have had my money stolen by Barnard Marcus. I recently dealt with the Chiswick branch of Barnard Marcus to rent a flat.I found a lovely flat but when it came time to move (literally the day before) the owner and I realised that the agent had mis-sold the apartment to me as being unfurnished when it was in fact furnished. The letting fell through and I did not sign the contract. I had however paid my deposit and the rent in advance totalling 2200pounds. I had being given the keys also. When the mistake was understood by Barnard Marcus, they apologised and I even offered more money in rent to incentivise the owner to store their things (as I did not have somewhere to stay), I was told a refund was provided/processed straight away, so I gave back the keys hopeful that with the refund I could find another flat quickly. The refund was never provided and I have still not received it which is over 3 months ago. They have help onto the money and I am now having to go through the Ombudsman/Court process to sue them for it. I missed out on another flat due to my money not being returned and have wracked up considerable debt in added expenses given I did not have a home and London is very expensive. If you are in my position, don't give the keys back until you get your money back as they have no intention of refunding your money. This is theft plain and simple.

TrustpilotAppalling service Wallington Branch!!!!
Appalling service Wallington Branch!!!!If there was an option for 0 stars i would of put that!!I was tricked into paying £500.00 to secure a property from a Trainee Lettings Negotiator who seemed very eager to get a deal on the board! Upon receiving the paperwork, I was extremely disappointed to find out it was not what had been agreed and so I asked for my money back. This was 14 days ago and I am still waiting . At first I was told I would only receive £250 back even though I hadn’t signed anything. The Negotiator, Harry refused to return my calls or emails so I spoke to the Branch Manager, Peter who told me I wouldn’t receive a full refund even though I pointed out to him the Negotiator had lied and I had not signed anything. I had to take time out of work to escalate my complaint to the Area Manager who after 5 days agreed to a full refund. It has now been another week and I haven’t received anything back. I have had to increase my overdraft in order to secure another property due to this underhand agent withholding my money through absolutely no fault of my own. Citizens Advice have advised that I report this to the Property Ombudsman which I have now done but I just want my money back. Can I suggest that going forward you come out of the dark ages and update your systems to allow transfers to be done on the same day. Banking Technology is very advanced nowadays and certainly most companies, including Estate Agents are able to make a bank transfer in minutes. I’m sure you wouldn’t withhold a Landlord’s rent for 2 weeks! Please do not blame the bank, this is insulting. You are purposely withholding MY money! It is greedy agents like you which have forced the Government to abolish Tenant Fee’s!
