GoogleI visited the Portswood Sainsbury’s recently with my uncle to buy some groceries. My uncle also wanted to buy a bottle of liquor for himself. When we went to pay at the counter, the young lady at the till refused to sell us the bottle and asked me for ID, even though my uncle was the one purchasing and paying for it.
I explained that I was just accompanying him, and that the bottle was for him, but she ignored us and called for assistance without explaining why. An older lady then came over, and her attitude felt very dismissive and disrespectful, it even felt discriminatory.
She took the bottle away and told my uncle he wasn’t allowed to buy it, even though he was of legal age. This happened in front of other customers, and my uncle felt extremely embarrassed and humiliated. It was as if he was being treated like he had done something wrong or like a thief, which was deeply upsetting.
We shop at this Sainsbury’s two or three times a week, but after this experience, we no longer feel comfortable coming back. My uncle was treated very unfairly and with no respect. I hope the management reviews this incident and ensures staff are trained to handle customers more professionally and politely.

GoogleHorrible experience with kings when it comes to renting, first took security deposit from two different groups(which is very illegal), and then wanted both groups to bid on the house while holding on to both groups’ deposits. Then over charged us and it’s been a month and still waiting for them to communicate with the accounts team. Funny how they take seconds to confirm a payment and release the keys but is taking more than a month to “realise” that they have over charged us would not recommend, the team seems to have very poor communications skills. Don’t do business with them, you will have a much happier life trust me. :)
Ohh and the best part is their FALSE advertising skills(which is also illegal), they advertise a house as fully furnished but til this day (6 weeks into the tenancy)the house is still not furnished, the curtains and beds and desks are missing for a month and no response from any side, and we are still required to pay the full rent on the house. Ridiculous! Avoid at all cost :) do better things with you life find someone else.

Hi,
Thank you for your second review.
As you were made aware, two groups viewed the property and made payments at the same time through two different forms of payment.
You were not overcharged, you overpaid to which you were refunded.
The property was being refurbished to which you were made aware and it was yourselves pressing to move in as soon as possible, I recall one member of your group coming into the office every few hours asking for keys.
Many thanks

GoogleWhere do I start. Jade and Ancuta were fantastic start to finish. Helped us every step of the way and was always helpful answering any questions and queries we had at any stage. I honestly couldn’t recommend this company enough on the basis of these two. Jade and Ancuta thank you so much for helping us relocate in such a tricky time of the year and helping us every step of the way

GoogleI had an awful experience renting through Kings. First, they illegally took security deposits from two different groups and then tried to make both groups bid on the same property while holding onto their deposits. They overcharged us, and even after a month, we’re still waiting for any response from their accounts team. It’s ironic how fast they confirm payments and release keys, but when it comes to fixing their overcharges, it's taking over a month. I wouldn’t recommend them at all, their communication skills are terrible. Avoid doing business with them if you want a stress-free life.
Also, their false advertising is ridiculous (and illegal). They listed the house as fully furnished, but six weeks into the tenancy, it’s still missing essential furniture like curtains, beds, and desks. Despite this, they’re still charging full rent. Absolutely outrageous! Avoid Kings at all costs and find a better rental agency.

GoogleWe didn't have a good experience with King's Estate. We were booked for a 1 bed viewing in November 2024, the estate agent who showed us the property was initially great in showing us around and answering my list of questions, however what let us down was his rushness to send me off as he had other viewers (despite only showing us the property for 5 minutes). What was really disappointing was his rolling eyes towards me for taking my time to write down the answers to his questions.
Anyway, we decided then the property was suitable (for a couple and 6 months baby) so the agent told us to go to the office and put deposit down. When we arrived at the kings estate office, a warm friendly lady greeted us and sat us down to get our details, but she was interrupted by her neighbouring colleague who not only interfered but took over. We could see the lady was annoyed, he didn't even apologise and the lady went off assuming on her break.
After putting the deposit down, we were told two days later by King's estate that the landlord had refused due to 'personal reasons'. We rang King's estate and they said these personal reasons the landlord stated were that they were not wanting to rent out to a couple and 6 months baby. This was incredibly frustrating as we had asked King's estate on several occasions even before viewing the property whether the property is ok for couple and baby. The estate agents response was that they 'assumed' the landlord would rent it out to couple and baby as they had done so previously, clearly their assumption over hard facts have not been favourable in wasting everyone's time.

GoogleMaybe I went at the wrong time, but twice on a Saturday afternoon there were practically no fresh vegetables left and there were a lot of frustrated shoppers. If this happens a lot, then it suggests there is a problem with their restocking.
The supermarket is in a convenient location and has a large covered car park.
It is particularly notable for having a good range of Eastern European, Chinese, Korean and Japanese branded food in store, presumably for the student population.

Googlevery busy store. They dont have much of a "home" selection. No DVDs ..random books... small toy selection...same with clothes ..mainly womens clothing that are over priced. The staff are always moaning or swearing. On one occasion i used the nectar scanning machines and went through the easy check out and was made to feel like a thief by a woman ( face full of make up but older woman) because i scanned one thing multiple times instead of individually .. she took me to a till and scanned all my items again and was whispering to the cashier and staring at me. no need whatsoever

GoogleI had a deeply unpleasant experience at the this branch, specifically with a manager named Sarah. Her behaviour was unprofessional, dismissive, and carried a tone of clear racial bias.
From the moment I interacted with her, I felt unwelcome and disrespected. Her body language, tone of voice, and general attitude were extremely negative and confrontational, with no justification.
I attempted to raise the issue with customer service, but sadly received no proper follow-up.
This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable in a public retail space. I urge Sainsbury’s to investigate this incident seriously and ensure that such discriminatory behaviour is not tolerated within your stores.
No customer deserves to be treated this way.

GoogleSainsbury's used to be very British in every respect. Then sensibly market-wise they decided to cater for the local foreign market as well. Unfortunately, this store has just had a big revamp to cater for the growing foreign university students community. Who in reality are there for a short period throughout the year. This has been done to compete against the local foreign specialist food stores, to the detriment of the permanent local residents. So like many others my custom has moved elsewhere 🙃

GoogleI love Sainsbury's for many years. I shop with SmartShop (the handset) to save time at checkout, as I go during busy hours. But it flags me for a security check almost every single time, no matter how much I buy or how long it takes or how many items in the basket. Staff keep saying it's random check, but it can't be random if it happens every time. After many complains during the past year, they finally reset my account (as they said), it improved a bit, but still happens too often. Honestly, it makes me want to avoid this store.

GoogleLarge store! Easily available free parking spaces for customers. Unfortunately, almost every time I shop here, there's at least one item that shows up for a higher price at the checkout than on the shelves. Staff are always kind to check the shelves and correct the price at checkout.

GoogleKirsty went the extra mile over and above to accommodate by needs by driving all over the areas of the three properties so I could get my bearings. Good value properties were seen and I am interested in pursuing. Kirsty was upbeat and super helpful. Definitely recommend.

GoogleThank you very much to the lady who was dealing with the toy section. You had a toy sale and you didn't have the monster jam item on the shop floor so I showed her a photo of the item and she went to look. A few minutes later she was back with the item which was right at the back of the stock room. I know we will have a very happy grandson thank you

GoogleGreat customer service and super helpful guidance for 1st time Student buyers.
My group and I are students and Kings helped us get our property, some properties weren't great (most student properties aren't) but King's service always was (especially Jade). They managed to get us a viewing with a house that was difficult to get a viewing with, and they explained the process of renting a house really well to us to make sure we understood. Mostly on time for viewings, and almost all the time had quick communication throughout the process.

GoogleI used to like this super market. But now it is frequently running out of certain lines and the range seems to be shrinking. I've never known it so bad. It feels like we are in lockdown again. Having said that the staff that have been there awhile are very good, but look over worked. All this will be the fault of senior management.
Update things have improved a little bit

GoogleExcellent estate agents - many thanks to Ryan Cherry and the team who have all been extremely helpful during the tenancy in a studio apartment in Southampton. From the initial contact in helping us find suitable accommodation remotely, providing virtual tours and responding so promptly to all our enquiries - though to viewings and agreeing the tenancy, their professionalism and helpful manner has been outstanding. An issue with overpayment (mistake on my part) was addressed immediately and there was no delay whatsoever in the return of funds or the deposit. I would highly recommend this agency and would not hesitate to use them again in future!PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

GoogleWish I could give them no stars. Do not rent a student property from this estate agents.
Appalling service from start to finish. Rented a property to my daughter and her friends, which was filthy and full of damp, toilets that didn’t work, no end of tenancy clean, unsafe doors and locks front and back, truly shocking, plus had the landlords personal tip at the side of the house. It was so bad I reported it to environmental health and they acted very quickly. Also reported to student services. Kings are supporting slum landlords in the area and do not monitor the standard of the house that tenants are moving in to, only constantly repeating that the landlord said the house was ready to move in to, passing blame to the landlord who passed blame back to them. This particular house was taken off the market after I reported it to environmental health. Do not be scared to report slum housing, Southampton council are very good.

Dear 'KD',
Thank you for your detailed review. If you can please amend to include the part where the some of the (male) parents shouted at a 21 year old female member of staff to reduce her to tears or where one of the prospective tenants decided to film a member of staff without their permission. Despite all this, the staff at Kings Estates were always polite and professional with yourselves even assisting with helping to terminate a 3rd party utility contract once the tenancy was ended.
I agree that Southampton City Council are very good and agreed with our points on the property. The points you have raised were exaggerated to which the council also agreed. That said, there were issues at the start of the tenancy which we had also expected to have been completed which we tried to help resolve. Ultimately both parties ( Tenant and Landlord ) decided to terminate the tenancy due to a breakdown.
All the best in the future.
