Absolutely TOP NOTCH

The whole buying experience from start to finish has been first class. Both Danielle & Megan kept us fully informed of progress, made themselves available often at their own inconvenience and provided excellent service with their focus on the customer.Thank you

Finally an Innovative builder!

CITU is a forward thinking and exciting builder. Speaking as someone who works with numerous agents and builders it is great to see them bringing intelligent and accessible properties to the market especially in city centre spaces dominated by apartments. I look forward to seeing what other innovative designs they have for the future.

Buying into CITU for the personal touch.

Our experience of buying at Citu’s Climate Innovation District was a really positive one and we felt looked after throughout the whole process. As with all new build properties there has to be some flexibility from all parties as often there are unforeseen issues and delays along the way but communication is key and we feel Citu have done their best to deliver. What was amazing was the support from the entire community- we ended up living with a neighbour in her spare room whilst our property was completed. This enabled us to get to know how the house functions and also learn what problems there have been for people who bought their properties early on. I can say for certain that enormous amounts of improvements have been made and continue to be made as time goes on. A friend of ours who bought a new property in Castleford a few years ago from a large house building company commented that the finish of our house was well beyond their own. The night before we completed and moved in, we saw the two directors who live on site getting stuck in with Danielle from sales and the rest of the team, helping to clean our house. It was incredibly humbling to see the passion they’ve put into these properties and it’s these added elements which forge such a great community here at CID.

Great sense of community

I bought a flat from CITU last year, and overall, my experience has been positive. The salesperson was amazing, friendly, helpful, and guided us through the entire process. The mortgage adviser they recommended was also excellent, with in-depth knowledge of the site and great support throughout all stages. Any major snags were handled quickly and efficiently.

Visits to CITU with Y12 students

I've visited CITU twice now with Y12 students as part of a Carbon Literacy course during our sixth form college's careers week. On both occasions the students have really enjoyed being shown around the site by enthusiastic, approachable and knowledgeable young employees.  It was great to get CITU's real life perspective on implementing sustainability.

I’d give 10 stars if I could. Myself and my boyfriend called 4 days ago to book a viewing to explore our options in buying a property through citu in the new kelham complex. Today we walked away armed with knowledge and a perfect image of our (possible) future within one of these amazing houses. The only reason being Emily S who was incredible and went above and beyond at every opportunity they could. Thank you so much, we hope to see you very soon to start our futures with Emily and Citu helping us along the way!!

We have withdrawn from the Citu development

Unfortunately our experience with Citu wasn’t great… so I’ve decided to write a fairly lengthy and honest reflection.Citu/ climate innovation project is a beautiful and incredibly designed and marketed development that easily catches they eye of pretty much anyone, sadly it seems as though the delivery and service is in a somewhat different league. We registered our interest in the development in June 2021, having been told the development would be completed in Feb/Mar of 2022. When the time came, we were informed barely weeks before that this was pushed back to July/ August, we were then told later that this was pushed to September and come September we were told it was pushed back to January 23.Without going into copious details, the customer service along the way was pretty poor, whether this is down to staffing issues, organisational problems, or just simple bad attitudes, I don’t really know, all I do know is that we received very little meaningful empathy throughout the process as well as no substantial apology. We have now successfully withdrawn from the development (with full refund) having recently found out there will be even further delays (of which a finish date has still not been announced to my knowledge).Other than the long completion delays, we also decided to withdraw from the purchase due to the hugely complained about aftercare/ build quality. We heard that the developers duck/ avoid contact regarding defects, to the point in which we saw one of the houses on the development fill one of their windows with a plea to Citu for a response on the issues with their property… as in it was like an A1 poster with big capital letters…I have noticed that Citu are barely (to put it lightly) completing a building before starting another, the second block of Airlofts has already started to take shape (which can now be seen as you drive past) which seems strange to say they have hundreds of people waiting to move into the first. The excuses we received for the delays were mostly procurement or delivery due to covid, I personally think this is a lie or a fragment of the truth given our experience and the reputation Citu seem to be building for themselves but I’m not a builder so don’t actually know.In summary, there are clearly plenty of people happy with what they got when they joined Citu, however from my experience, the communication is super bad, the completion dates are pretty much made up as they go and there are masses of 1* reviews for them backing most of what I’ve mentioned up.This review was based solely on my opinion and experience of the company. The development looks ace… but I would genuinely recommend you steer clear (even if you get woo’d in by the good sales and marketing like we did). I personally think their ethical/ sustainable and community vision is utter rubbish, other than using some recycled materials, they don’t seem to be doing much different than any other development.

Agent replied · 14 June 2024

Hi JoshWe have taken a little more time to digest your review. We are grateful to you for setting out your observations and feelings and there are definitely a number of areas where we agree with you.The construction industry was thrown into absolute turmoil as a consequence of the pandemic, with labour and materials being particularly hard to secure. This created a number of challenges for our construction programme which slipped significantly on a number of occasions as you have highlighted. The Climate Innovation District is a multi-phased and complex construction and infrastructure project with many moving parts which means that certain works have to be delivered at certain times. This doesn't necessarily mean that any one particular series of works will have a negative impact on others, particularly where they involve entirely separate specialist sub-contractors. We accept that we should have delivered more consistent lines of communication through this period as we grappled with the challenges and we are determined to ensure that we step up in this respect in the future. We genuinely care about our customers and our carbon footprint and we are working flat out to ensure that we deliver to expectation and beyond each and every time. We also understand that actions speak louder than words. We regret that our relationship has broken down and wish you all the best for the futureSincerelyThe Citu Team.

Lovely property too expensive

The property was exactly what we were looking for. Emily the salesperson was really helpful and provided the information we needed. Unfortunately after completing some due diligence we concluded the property to be overpriced and didnt proceed due to current market conditions but would definitely consider Citu in future.

Citu Leeds is an Idyllic place

The Citu development is in the most incredible location imaginable… the tranquillity of the river, coupled with the proximity to the vibrant and wonderful Leeds with bars, restaurants and culture. Also, so close to the beautiful Moors. It is an absolute idyll!!! Love the house design and the innovation behind it. It is just great! On the flip side, as far as how spotty the responses have been from Citu to snags etc., I have also experienced frustrations. The team are delightful, but introspection is needed on how to bolster the after sales care.

Buy… but I recommend to buy second-hand

I couldn't recommend living in the Climate Innovation District enough. You’ll never meet nicer neighbours; after all, we bought into the same vision and we’re making it happen, living the ethos constantly. I’m proud to be a part of it, and it is genuinely a privilege.I’d been in the CITU bubble since I moved to the Greenhouse 6 years ago. I stuck with them because I believed in them, and I considered them to be friends. I followed them blindly into buying a house, sold by the glossy mockups and promotional materials, and feeling like I was being given a rare and unique opportunity. The second I moved in, the bubble burst.Delays and snags are inevitable, but this is something else entirely. It's like a lottery. The reviews here are basically 1* or 5* for a reason. It’s good to see what a winning ticket looks like, but I wish I had been prepared for a losing ticket.I’ve had quotes to fix the outstanding issues on my house and it’s going to cost me over £25k to get it to the standard that was sold to me. I’ve already spent thousands.I spent my first few days cutting glue off of the windows, walls and floors, scratching off the paint blobs and scrubbing a glue footprint off the floor in the living room. I broke down into tears day 1 wondering what I had just bought. Nearly half a million pounds handed over to a company who handed over… this? It’s disgusting.CITU assured me that they would be taking up and replacing my entire living room floor, as it was an absolute mess. It’s off at an angle, bends at one end, and somehow the walls aren’t 90º from the floor, they’re slightly sloped.I was told to not move furniture into my living space until this was resolved. They did nothing on it for 18 months. When they finally ‘resolved’ this ‘snag’, they just replaced a few planks without acclimatising the bamboo to the temperature or humidity of the room. I was told by a contractor that this was going to need pulling up again once the seasons change. They didn't touch the alignment, the bending, the wonkiness, or the glue-stained / chipped wood.My top step fell off while I was walking down the stairs. I caught myself on the bannister thankfully. I reported it immediately, but they took 10 months to come round… and they just glued it back on. I avoid that step now.My sink fell out of the kitchen unit, somehow. They glued it back in and told me not to put so much in the sink. It was just an empty saucepan in there by the way. I now avoid using it and never run the water for too long.My rooftop decking snapped while I was walking across it. Guess they’re out of glue for that though as they haven’t replied to my emails. My smoke alarm went off because it was full of water. The cause of the leak was that I had dried some clothes over the bath, and apparently the standing water drained into the electronics. I personally feel that this is a suboptimal drainage location, but hey. Gotta pick your battles. My cladding is a mess. It’s loose, uneven, each wall of the house is like its own special art project, completely oblivious to where the edges meet on the other sides. It’s got a load of clips in it that they were meant to take out when they finished but they didn’t bother. The panels aren’t flush with the windows. The MVHR ingest vent is hanging off. Something that looks like one of those snakey swimming pool floats keeps falling out of the back door frame. I can’t cut it off because it’s part of the exterior, and they won't fix it because it's aesthetic. We had to make several noise complaints after being woken at 2-7am with concrete polishing in the flats. In response Citu wrote us all a letter saying they aren't talking to us any more for “reporting us needlessly to various authority bodies” and “risking future sales of homes at the district”. Onto the next phase for them I guess.I could go on, but frankly I need to stay sane. CITU have perfected selling and moving onto the next customer. Once they accepted that they’d messed up my house, they gave up on me. I’m not going to become an advocate for them, so they might as well invest in someone else. The one time I got close to selling my house, I realised I couldn’t because of the number of issues. The best thing I can do now is spend a ton of money and make it what it should have been in the first place.I won’t deny that some people are still super happy with the developer, and many more are indifferent. I’m seeing a therapist though. Everyone’s experience is different. The financial and mental toll for me has been so bad that I regret the biggest purchase of my life. But I only regret that I gave the money to CITU and that this keeps happening to new residents. My advice would be to look out for a second-hand property here and snap it up. This is the dream neighbourhood, and one day CITU will leave and move onto another project… for me that’ll be a relief, and cause for celebration

1 month at Citu update

We've now lived at Citu for a month ; I felt that this is a good time to send an update. This is a lovely place to live for all of us and a truly great home. For a slice of life, here's what me, my daughter and my son are up to today. I've been sitting outside at Secret Garden with my coffee looking at the river. My daughter (16) has been sat outside having breakfast on her back deck with her friend. We're about to walk by the river, get some pastry goodies from the local mini supermarket and walk to Leeds Dock, where the girls will take the river taxi to the station for her friend's half hour ride to Skipton and I'll go over the footbridge to John Lewis and beyond. Yesterday the girls walked to town to see a film and picniced on the River Aire Island on the way home. My son (18) took a friend to The Royal Armouries, whilst I met my friend and her two year old for a ride on his bike around Leeds Dock and then picnic at our Citu riverside garden. This evening me and my son are off climbing at the indoor wall just up the road. My son and daughter have both admitted that there's no excuse to hang around indoors any more now we're here, there's too much to do! To sign off, I'm delighted and so impressed that in the baking hot weather, I came home to a beautifully cool home, what a treat, without even the need to run a fan or anything using power. We all feel very lucky to be here. We are so well looked after by the team. The care all the way before and after the move has been perfect. The communication is spot on. I feel very privileged to live in such a wonderful place.

Very nice :)

I’ve recently moved into the “Town House” at landing place in the citu residance. So far my experiance has been great, very different from where i had currently moved from wich was in the middle of nowhere. Citu offers a wonderfull and peacefull enviroment and comunity with many friendly, welcoming faces :). As well as that, the geniral area feels so outve town as you are surrounded by lots of wildlife with a beatiful river to overlook; however, the area has such easy acsess to central leeds as well as “Leeds Dock” with lots of lovely resturants as well as a local grocary store only a few minuites away! Futher more, Citu area has a very easy acsess to many other towns and city’s around the area with “Leeds train station” being unbelievably close. Wich for people going to work or school such as myself who will be soon attending “York college” this upcoming september it is extreemly usefull that it is such a quick walk. Personally, i believe that Citu is a wonderfull place to live and with new and upcoming Citu builds such as new houses, shops and eventually there very own primary school in some years to come, it will grow to be a bussiling and even more welcoming comunity!

scared to say bad things

I first must apologise for not putting my full name. I worry that I will have worse service from citu staff if my name is here ---CONTENT REMOVED BY REQUEST OF CITU---Some neighbours say that if you say anything bad you are not one of us any more ---CONTENT REMOVED BY REQUEST OF CITU--- I am trapped and with nothing to do about this!I want badly to love my house, the house I spend all my money on. They do not speak to us once we buy except for some friends who leave a good review, the house leaks, everything breaks, nobody supports and and I have no money now and a house I cannot sell.I want to protect you from buying from this company! climate houses are good but not when citu abuse, please speak to customers, please speak to REAL PEOPLE who have problems do not read adverts and do not speak with only sales. More would speak but do not want punishments for being honest. Please be safe with money and do not make bad choices. The bad reviews are true, please read. great place, great community

We were among the first people who bought here, and it’s been great to deal with a small developer who’s done their best to adapt to all the challenges of covid and beyond. Citu rectified any issues we had with our house quickly, and since then have kept us in the loop with everything they’re doing as well as ask for our input as a community on what works for us. The community itself is a major draw, especially raising a new family. We have had community street parties, bbqs on the decking and beer clubs. Now that piglove brewery and various street food vans have had pop up residences across the river, sunshine drinks and pizzas have become the new weekend norm.

Early adopter review

We are really impressed that a small (in comparison) developer has been able to deliver such a lovely place to live for a young family. Obviously as an early adopter there are things that go wrong, but the developers and the staff at Citu have been really great at helping us get things sorted. We’ve also loved the community aspect of the development, meeting some likeminded people with a similar family dynamic has been so good as a new mum.

We've had a great time so far at Citu

We moved in in April 2021 on Solar Avenue and are delighted with our decision. We're here for the duration and are really excited to see it all finished. I would absolutely not try and put anyone off buying here based on my experience. I think our house looks great, is innovative in its' design and we are yet to have any major issues with it (although we appreciate others have, which is a shame). The development of the whole area is a major project, and if I was to make any criticism it could be that Citu have taken on a lot at once and, at times, communication hasn't been great with residents. However, at the time of writing that does seem to have improved with more regular updates. Again, we have a great time living here. We're delighted to be part of an actual community too - it's the first place we've ever lived where we socialise with our neighbours and that's a great thing. Happy to provide any other feedback as and when needed!

We love our house - amazing community, great location, beautiful views. We had some teething issues at the beginning but at the same time show me a developer/construction project in the UK that has no problems. Another positive of this development is that they are working on a very large project in the area - they will be always here to support owners/buyers not like some other developers that complete project and move on to the next one.Customer support improved a lot, Megan deserves a lot of credit for her hard work and dedication!

What can I say about Citu?

What can I say about Citu?I’d say the area that’s built is a spot on area. Small bars, restaurants and cafes are next to us. It has its own character, independent. Could say stands out from the rest. Everything it’s nearby. Unfortunately, the cons are way more than the pros. CITU is a cheap company. I mean really cheap. The communication’s terrible. If they were a MASH, children’s services trying to save/put down a child protection plan for the children would be a lost cause. I had some exposed wires outside my place. I insisted on hiding them so they listed it as an ASAP. I think after 8months, roughly, they covered them! Guess better late than never. Had issues in my place, and a lot of issues, still do. If they had a couple of days to assign the appropriate workers to my place everything would’ve been done. It took months. My guarantee ended last year, they emailed me in late Feb that my guarantee ended asking me about my defects. And, of course, that took a while, still has some defects, maybe in 2025, everything will be done. Not responsive to their emails, you have to email about 10+ and if you’re lucky you will get a response. The last emails I got from them when I emailed about my defects said that TODAY the allocated things will be fixed. Unfortunately, nothing was fixed. I had issues with my shower door, everything was coming out and I had to clean the shower every time I finished. I asked if they could replace the shower door but they didn’t see it as a defect. I had my light switch installed wrongly. I fought for my light switch and heater in the kitchen to be replaced (do have pictures). My heater upstairs is a small one. In winter my bedroom is freezing. They refuse to change the heater because this is how the designer designed it. I visited one of my neighbour's flat, the same house, it’s like a reflection of mine. Their upstairs and downstairs bedrooms are both medium heaters. Unfortunately, CITU was/is so proud that they refuse to change my defect (defects caused by their own company) because that was how they designed it and it cannot be changed. I do not know who the designer is and can only talk about my situation, honestly terrible. I would suggest maybe going back to uni or trying out a different job. That includes the rest - Meg P. and Chris T. I felt and still do like a number, like now that they sold the place that’s it. Felt like I was taken for granted, and only care about money. Not bothered about my issues, issues created by CITU and their designers. My issues are still hanging there. A parking spot is about £14,000 and prices increase. I would suggest if you are planning on buying one of the plots after you move in check with your neighbours you’ll find differences. I would suggest also, having a chat with the residents there, getting feedback and then deciding. It does sound like I'm exaggerating. From my side, the only proof I have is the emails I exchanged and pictures. If you need more proof ask the neighbours.Wish you the best of luck.
