We rented Orchard Cottage in

We rented Orchard Cottage in Ickleton for just shy of 5-years and Intercounty Saffron Walden acted as the 'middle' company we dealt with only at the start of the tenancy and then the end. Initially the set-up was fairly straightforward, they took their pretty big chunk of change for doing very little and we got on with moving in. However toward our moving out date 5-years later it came to light that our (the tenant’s) follow-up comments to the original, and quite poorly evidenced, check-in inventory had never been filed/saved, and they’re kinda' necessary to back-up any potential issues, especially when you have the type of landlord who’ll re-straighten used nails, circling for potential extra cash to pick up. Now to be fair, e-mails were answered reasonably quickly, yet every single one was just a simple 'we cannot comment' fob-off, and it's really hard to see why we even had to deal with Intercounty at the end of the tenancy. Anyway, the biggest gripe is, Intercounty filed the paperwork to return our initial deposit, which was 2-months worth of rent, but this was done with a deduction of 27% for 'alleged' rent arrears. Fact is though, with bank statement evidence we could prove we were not in any arrears, in fact we'd manage to over-pay rent and were actually owed money by the mathematically challenged landlord. But Intercounty were not interested in this 'evidence' and merely took the landlord’s say-so without him supplying any evidence to back up his fictitious claim. So it’s interesting to note there's a follow-up comment on another review 'site from Intercounty to another miffed reviewer that states 'If deductions are proposed we do understand this will not always be received well however there will always be supporting evidence in relation to this'. Erm, really? So where was the supporting evidence we were due? Intercounty, I shall repeat, just sided with the landlord based solely on his say-so without him providing ANY evidence, whereas we have full black and white financial statements showing exactly how much was paid and when, proving NO money was owed by the tenants at the end of the tenancy agreement. So now we're needlessly stuck in a 3-month wait for the remaining 27% of our deposit to be returned, which it will be as bank statements do not lie (unlike landlords) whilst our evidence is reviewed by a third-party. Yet with just an inkling of common sense and the brief time to look at our hard evidence Intercounty could've saved all parties the time and hassle now being incurred because, let's face it, the only side they're currently making money from is the landlord (and his many, many properties). And just for the record, the landlord (DAVID HUMAN) broke several of his contractual tenancy agreement obligations, which as another reviewer has pointed out - Intercounty let slide, plus allowed a large and structurally dangerous outside flint-stone building (barred from use for the final 18-months of our tenancy, without any rent deduction) situated in the properties garden to remain hazardously unstable and unfixed, even though it was pointed out that it was starting to crumble back in 2015, thus potentially putting the tenants at risk. Summary; if you’re a landlord Intercounty will look out for you. If you’re a renting tenant expect a meaningless smile with a smattering of incompetency.

Not very often you get to work with ppl who are exceptional at their profession. With the current state of uncertainty within the housing market, the increasing mortgage rates, losing out on my first house choice, a difficult seller at the second house choice, I nearly pulled out of selling my home and wait for things to settle back down. Luckily, I spotted a gorgeous cottage in the same village of choice listed by Intercounty I got in touch and the manager, Andrew arranged immediate viewing and my offer was accepted. An easy transaction, excellent communication, no delay or chasing, great customer service, nothing is too much, I was reassured at all times and I can’t recommend Intercounty enough! Thank you, for providing an excellent client experience in these stressful times. We love our new home, it’s a match made in heaven ❤️

Blake went above and beyond to help us. We couldn’t have asked for anyone more helpful, friendly, responsive and hardworking. We were successful in finding a property in less than a week with Blake and after only looking at one other place. I would highly recommend Intercounty and can’t thank Blake enough for everything he did.

Probably the best estate agents we've used for any of our moves. Blake was great at helping us find our home and working out any issues with the landlord, and Jade has been an amazing help on moving day, going above and beyond. Would highly recommend to anyone for 5* service.

It was good dealing with Intercounty throughout our tenancy. All the members that we had dealings with were polite and professional. Especially Jade Virciglio who was in contact during end of tenancy and made check out process as smooth as possible. Thanks.

After nearly a year, the

After nearly a year, the words "we won't discount our % commision because we're worth the extra" still ring in my ears. The initial flirtation with Intercounty in January was excellent. They gave the highest valuation, they had "their own" conveyancing team to handle the admin, they had a specialist sales progressor to deal with me day to day and then we had an offer of the asking price within 4 days. After that it went downhill fast. We accepted the offer in early February, but struggled to communicate with the conveyancing company and the sales progessor was rude and abrupt both by email and on the phone. We were an unusual sale as we were emmigrating and the dates weren't fully fixed, but we kept Intercounty and the conveyancers fully informed all the way. We presumed they would inform our buyer and their solicitor. We confirmed our date of emmigration in June, at this point we still hadn't exchanged. Intercounty and the conveyancers took 3 weeks to inform our buyer of our leaving date. Eventually on the day of exchange, days before we emigrated, the conveyancers said they had lost our signed contract. We finally sold the property a month after we'd left the UK and the change in exchange rate between us leaving and getting the money from the sale meant we lost over 10k. I would obviously advise against using Intercounty and their conveyancing company.
