From very first contact, all the way through to handing back the keys at the end of the lease, everyone I came into contact with at Castle Estates (Nottingham) were very professional and very friendly. On the couple of occasions I needed to contact the team my emails and phone calls were responded to very quickly, in fact far quicker than I was expecting. Thank you to Michael, Gemma, and Emma for a great service. If I find myself working out of East Midlands Airport again, and in need of a property to rent, I will definitely use your services again.

Castle Estates have been fantastic at managing my property. After being let down my previous agent, Castle Estates have reassured me that dealing with a family run letting agent is the way forward. Emma is extremely professional and approachable. She is there to answer any questions promptly and efficiently. She has ensured that it has been a smooth and easy process finding the most suitable tenants. Castle Estates have given me a fully bespoke service that meets my needs and those of my tenants. I don’t need to worry about my property as I fully trust Emma and Castle Estates to take care of it for me. The competitive rates are worth it for peace of mind that my property is being well looked after.

Do not trust this company! Take plenty of photos as soon as you move into your property. They lie about everything to keep your bond money!! Replaced a wee stained sofa that I wouldn't even let a pet sit on! Carpets were absolutely filthy in all rooms! Hole in the bathroom door that was there from day one!! And I'm still waiting for the money for the decorating that they promised to pay for.!! Shed outside is rotten! Fridge door already broken ! And had to replace washing machine door. List goes on !!!

Contacted Castle Estates to find housing for my final year at university and they were extremely helpful in finding me a really nice house. Emma was great throughout the entire process. She was very responsive and got the process of the house contract being drawn up to me moving into the house done efficiently without any delays or complications. Our agent Pat was wonderful. Castle estates are very thorough and Pat made everything go through quickly and with ease. I was very determined to meet a short move-in deadline and without Pat we wouldn’t have done that. He was always on hand to help out and answered all of my many many questions. Great experience with both the agent and agency.PositiveResponsiveness

Absolutely the worst letting agents I have ever dealt with. They charge extortionate amounts for the most ridiculous things - what, pray tell, is a dilapidation admin fee? I had already paid them a check-out fee which I thought was cheeky but they banged an extra £36 on top of that. They also over-charged me £60 at the end of my tenancy and told me I had never paid to extend my contract. I had and proved it to them. Why they couldn't have checked their records properly is beyond me. I then had to spend a further 2 weeks chasing them every day about the missing money which I was promised would be paid by direct transfer. It was only after I threatened to get legal advice that they got off their behinds and paid the sum. Terrible.

Laura, I sorry to hear that you feel that you have had bad experience with Castle Estates. We take great steps to highlight our fees to tenants before the tenancy starts, they are also clearly outlined and explained in all our pre tenancy paperwork, advertising and tenancy agreement. We apologise that it took as long as it did to return your £60.00, this was due to complications with your rent account which I would be more than happy to discuss with you if you so wished.

Dreadful company. They leave the keys to their other properties lying around in other tenants homes for months (despite being told they were left there), and seem to think the owner has a right to enter the property without seeking (and obtaining) permission. Calling an old cell phone number, and not receiving an answer was their excuse for not obtaining permission for non-emergency visits - even if they failed to update my phone number, they have my address, and have no problem contacting me when they want something (like showing people around because they have given the keys to MY HOME to someone? who apparently has not returned them). I am a single female, and was horrified to learn a maintenance person (hired by the landlady and not affiliated with the company) had entered my property while I was out (thankfully I was not in the shower and/or naked). This person had been snooping around too, but the agency said that it is beyond their control (despite admitting to giving him the keys to my home). They tell me they are were not responsible for the actions of any contractors (friends) hired by the owner, which is worrying since these people seem to possess keys to by home. What is the point of an agent if not to mediate all transactions between tenant and owner? You might as well go with a private landlord who is not familiar with tenants rights! And if you do deal with them, it is worth the extra expense to change the locks because they take no responsibility for illegal entry by the property owner. I have been a good tenant for 3 yrs - paid my rent on time, kept the place clean etc., - but it is a rundown property and I have had to repeatedly nag them to fix stuff (cooker, washing machine, roof). The house was in a shitty state -paint on the manky carpet, walls peeling, overgrown garden - but these were noted on the moving in inventory. Despite this they are trying to rip me off for my deposit for 'cleaning' and 'damages' (none of which were ever flagged up on any inspections). However, they do employ a lovely cat lady who sometimes does the inspections.

Tine · 28 July 2019

Agent replied

Tine H, throughout your tenancy no member of our team, contractor or staff, has entered your property without prior notification or consent. The one instance you refer to involved the landlord's gas engineer who had been instructed directly by the owner without our involvement. This matter has been discussed in depth with yourself and the landlord and since then there have been no further issues. As part of the checking out process we do try to help our tenants by pointing out any potential issues we find before the move out date which, if not addressed, may have to be rectified at the cost of their deposit. In your case you introduced animals into the property without consent, we have therefore advised you that you will be required to have the carpets professionally cleaned and you could be held accountable for any damage they might have caused to the property. I am more than happy to discuss this further with you and try to address your concerns. As you are not moving out till next month I'm sure we can work together to ensure that you and the landlord are happy.

The worst experience - do not use! Patrick Lally who works there laughed at my wife over the phone after being trapped in their rental property for over 3 hours due to the door breaking. Completely rude customer service, I hope Patrick gets fired, he is an utter prick

Me and my partner rented a house from castle, I personally didn't see it before the signing day, what a mess! Is all I can say, so many things that were wrong with it, numerous calls from me to get simple things IE the garden sorted for being overgrown and just a general mess me and my partner ended up sorting it, they should never have taken the property on, by their own admittance (Mike), nothing but poor service, calls backs? You'd be lucky... Glad to be away from them, that bad the landlord himself (he was the main problem) let us leave the tenancy 2 months early, speaks for itself, I'm in no way holding castle soley responsible for my experience but as a mediator they should have stepped up with a more proactive role, in sorting the many issues with the property

Darren · 31 July 2016

Thank you for taking the time to review Castle Estates. This was the first time we had let this particular property and had dealings with your landlord. We had expected the property to be ready on your check in day however we were equally surprised at the condition it was left considering the landlord had assured us it was ready. We immediately had professional cleaners clean the entire house top to bottom and also discussed, in length, your options including not moving into the property. To make matters worse once you moved in your landlord insisted that he do all the repairs which were either extremely slow or were never done. We have now changed our procedures relating to new landlords so that future tenants will not have the similar experience furthermore we have ended our relationship with the landlord in question.

Lady on the phone called to inform us that our viewing was cancelled as they could not get the keys from the landlord. Got really defensive and passive aggressive when we started asking more questions, and did not seem to really care. Just wanted to have the last word and show that she was right and we were wrong (even though the purpose of her call was to apologise for their mistake). Very poorly conducted overall.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that you must have been disappointed not to be able to view the property, unfortunately we were not able to to get hold of the keys on the day of your booking for which we apologised. All of our phone calls are monitored for training purposes and we will review your call.
