I've been in the property business in the Basingstoke/Reading area for 47 years, yes that's right we first started letting property in early 1977. As you can imagine I have had "some" experience of dealing with agents for buying, selling and letting over the years, so I believe I have earned the right to comment. I have been using Northwoods in Basingstoke since about 2019 when I moved all of our rental properties to them having exhausted my patience with several other agents for a multitude of reasons. Since then I have found the Northwoods staff to be very professional, helpful and honest in all my dealings with them. In that five years plus I have never had any issue that couldn't be discussed and cleared up, as you would expect in any business relationship. In addition, to date I have not had any complaint from any of my tenants, with whom I keep good clear lines of communication and so would know very quickly if a tenant had a problem.All I can say to Northwoods Basingstoke is; Keep up the good work, you're doing a first class job.

The house of my dreams came on the market and I needed to sell my house quickly to enable me to put an offer in.Sam from Northwood Denton Burn came that same day to value mine (the only agent in the area able to). Sam was like a breath of fresh air and so friendly. He guided me through the process and made me feel so comfortable. My house went live the next day and was sold by day four. Just amazing.We hit a problem when my onward purchase fell through as the sellers pulled out! A special thank you to Sam, Leanne and Sadie who were always there to provide help and support and literally saved me from a breakdown!All the staff were always so friendly, helpful and professional and really cared.A lovely touch was receiving a bottle of wine and a new home card on completion day.Northwood came as a recommendation to me and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others. Put in an application to rent a property and they didn't get back to me. For 3 day kept calling to see if there was an update from the landlord, to be told that I should 'probably keep on looking' as they hadn't heard back. Did they even ring the landlord? Doubtful.

After many years living as a Tenant of Northwood, I can, hand on heart, honestly say they are the rudest team I've ever had to deal with. They lie about not receiving emails, they don't follow up on complaints within the property without chasing them. They don't respond to Sunday calls, if your heating breaks down or your boiler goes on the blink! The staff sidetrack their responsibilities and a lady in the Nottingham branch called Dawn is horrendously rude! If i spoke to people in my job the way she did, I'd have been sacked. Treating tenants like 2nd class citizens does not sell your company well at all. Bring back Marriotts... who were so lovely and sorely missed. Avoid like the plague if you can and save yourself, find a better agency.

I instructed Bowes Mitchell in the sale of my flat, having felt very much fobbed off by another agent in the area. I dealt directly with Clare Messner at Bowes Mitchell, having just popped in while passing the office at Four Lane Ends. The difference was noticeable immediately. Claire made me feel like I mattered, unlike the previous agent. It was not an expensive flat. But that didn’t matter to Bowes Mitchell. This is a concept lost on many businesses these days. A sale is a sale, people matter and you never know where it will lead. I am now selling my house and I am instructing Clare in relation to that sale as well. I wouldn’t go anywhere else now. AVOID NORTHWOOD ABERDEEN AT ALL COST!!!

Our 18-month experience with Northwood Aberdeen was awful beyond words can describe. As new international students who arrived in the UK in January 2022, my spouse and I were desperate to find accommodation and settled for an old, poorly insulated apartment managed by Northwood. Initially, Northwood was responsive to our inquiries, which is why I gave them two stars, but the subsequent experiences were terrible.Our troubles began when we discovered a crack in the kitchen window. After reporting it, Northwood concluded we caused the crack by installing an adhesive blind, demanding we pay over £200 for a new window. Despite our explanations and the contractor’s confirmation that the blind couldn't have caused the crack, Northwood remained adamant.Things worsened when we sought to move to a larger Northwood property, a 2-bedroom bungalow nearby. The viewing was unprofessional; the agent was preoccupied and dismissive. Despite this, we applied, providing comprehensive documentation, including my husband's payslips and a reference from his manager. I also provided my upcoming employment details and a reference from my future manager.Surprisingly, Northwood insisted we needed a guarantor, despite our clear financial capacity and rental history. Reluctantly, we provided one, but then they absurdly requested a landlord reference from themselves, delaying our application because our property manager was on leave. After repeated follow-ups, we were finally informed the apartment was rented to someone else, indicating Northwood’s apparent unwillingness to rent to us.As we searched for other apartments, we faced more issues. We needed a landlord reference from Northwood for a new application with another agency. Northwood refused unless we gave a one-month notice to vacate, even though we were only in the application stage. This seemed like targeted discrimination against us as immigrants. Forced to comply, we eventually secured a new apartment elsewhere, without needing a guarantor.Before leaving, we hired a cleaning company and documented the apartment’s condition, which had normal wear and tear. The only significant damage was a fire-grazed kitchen hob. Northwood had 31 business days to dispute our deposit but waited until the last moment to claim the entire £495 deposit and demanded an additional £200 for damages and cleaning. This unprofessional behavior was rightly timed by the property manager the night before his three-week leave commenced leaving us without anyone to clarify our doubts.We provided evidence of the apartment’s condition and the mould issue, which Northwood had ignored, but they rejected all our proof. We took responsibility for the damaged hob and made a reasonable offer through Deposit Scotland. After months of silence and deadlines passing, Northwood eventually claimed the entire deposit, suggesting they were doing us a favour by not asking for more.Our prolonged struggle with Northwood was exhausting and felt deeply discriminatory. This detailed account aims to warn potential renters. Northwood Aberdeen seems to prioritize landlords and lacks respect for tenants, responding to emails at odd hours and openly discriminating without accountability. Now, living in a new apartment managed by a different agent, the stark difference in treatment is clear.

Fantastic service all around (Wigan branch)

Very surprised at the reviews, however our experience with the Wigan branch was second to none! We were buying our first house through Northwood and had Kayleigh as our estate agent. We initially were looking at a house from strike and had problems left right and centre. When we finally found the house with northwood, It was a breath of fresh air. Kayleigh made the whole process extremely clear, Kept us up to date with everything and was very responsive when we had any questions. from start to finsh was much quicker than expected, all thanks to the hard work Kayleigh and the team put in for us. Extremely greatful for their time and efforts, we even received a fantastic little hamper with lots of goodies to get us settled in our new home which was just the cherry on top. From the start they were really helpful and responsive, and helped walk me through the whole process. Two things you'd want from an estate agent - someone who knows their stuff and who will go out of their way to fight your corner. One thing you DO NOT want is to be treated like a coloured pin on a map ready to be chalked off as another commission earned! In Clare Messner, you have the first; in the sales director you have the second. The latter put me on speaker phone while he packed up at the end of the day, akin to the thing you have on both sides of a door; begins with a K. Clare lost sleep because she left my lights on after a viewing. That's the kind of agent you want - someone who cares! And Clare knows her stuff, having been around a bit (!!) and she has that rarest of qualities among estate agents (and solicitors) - HONESTY. She will fight you corner, even if the opponent is a demented, money-grabbing ex! So, if you are after an estate agent who will get you what you want, talk straight to you and treat you like a human being, Clare is the one you should ask for. If the Sales Director answers the phone, put him on speaker and then hang up!

What can I say to truly reflect the gratitude I have for Claire , Lyn , Michael and all the staff at Bowes Mitchell for helping myself and the wife move into our dream property which we thought was never going to happen due to a supposed lack of interest in the property we had to sell first. We had tried 4 different estate agents over a 12 month period without any success which according to them was due to properties in this price bracket not moving. Well I’m sorry but they were wrong ? , along comes Clair and the Bowes Mitchell team and I’m not exaggerating here we had an offer within 24 hours of putting the property up with Clair for the full asking price and all went through without any hitches.
