Don’t go near this company

I used Barnard Marcus for 18 months. Following rent re-negotiations change they failed update their systems and kept emailing to inaccurately state that my tenant was in arrears. I kept complaining and was twice moved to different property managers within the company but after 6 months this still hadn’t been resolved. They demanded that I paid £600 to break the contract early. Despite doing this the emails have still not stopped. A useless company. Don’t go near them

Excellent Mortgage Advice Services

We recently bought a house, though not from Barnard Marcus, but got connected with their Mortgage Advisor - Monika Werchlewska. She is truly a gem of a person. True to her word, she helped us through to the end of our house purchase. She helped us with not just the mortgage but even to negotiate other aspects of buying a house. She is very knowledgeable and super helpful and friendly person. She helped us understand various aspects to be mindful of while buying a house and got our mortgage approved within 4 days. Highly recommend getting in touch with her if you are looking to buying a house.

Lovely people!

I recently rented a property from BM in Streatham, everyone I spoke to and dealt with was professional, friendly, enthusiastic and helpful - especially Bernardo! I would highly recommend using this agency for rentals.

Worst estate agent i dealt with

I handed over my property from Yopa to Barnard Marcus to have this sold asap. 7 months down the line only a few viewings with 1 offer which was way under. Communication is the biggest issue this estate agents has and they don't care about your price you want the property sold at but they just want to get rid of it.Would avoid at all costs, have to keep chasing up for feedback, cancellations, updates.Frustrating to say the least. They asked me to reduced my price 3x and even then they could not even get me a decent offer. I honestly believe their client base is awful and they keep blaming the market.

I will tell you precisely why I gave a 3 ⭐️ rating as it could have been a 2 ⭐️ easily. Initial stages up until the collection of the holding deposit was as smooth as ever. After that the service started to dip. The homelet peeps kept asking for info that was already available to them. Lack of communication throughout the way. I had to get involved and speed up the process for them. I feel the biggest issue is that the process is not clear to all & if the communication aspect improves things could just get better. Having said that, I must say a lil something about Ashley Amartey from the Croydon branch. He was ever so polite and understanding even tho I kept hounding him with phone calls. He finally managed to get it together at the end. So well done Ashley!! Hence the 3 ⭐️.

The worst estate agents in London

The worst estate agents in LondonBarnard Marcus - Croydon We recently put an offer in for a property, we already had a mortgage broker we were happy with, we were still asked to speak to Sharone the in house broker, which we agreed to out of courtesy. It turned out Sharone's fees are considerably more expensive, well over 3x our current broker. When we questioned this, it was hinted to us our offer would be discredited if we used an outside broker and we would be much better to use theirs. We had written confirmation our offer was accepted, whilst we were deciding on the broker, the manger Kelly called us, and again used high pressure sales tactics to pressure us to use Sharone. Sharone mortgage was the same as our current broker offered us, so we opted to use him and save over £400 in fees. We let Barnard Marcus know our decision on Friday, and Monday morning our offer had been rejected. We were clearly discredited by the staff in the office, which I'm pretty sure this is a violation of financial conduct and trading standards. It feels like a complete scam to us and we will escalate this further.

Sutton & Wallington

I must stress I didn’t buy nor sell via them. I found a suitable property with another agent, however leading up to that I did 4 viewings with the Sutton & Wallington branch and each time they were delightful.Respectful, as honest as an estate agent ever is and not too pushy. They kept me up to date but didn’t bombard me.I would have happily bought with them but the properties just weren’t quite right.Staff though - spot on. Thank you.

MUST AVOID this agent

MUST AVOID this agent, last year in COVID i had booked rental property and was required to pull out at last min after doing payment but document signature stage. i have been chasing them for refund for last 10+ months and have still not received refund. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with poor service and not professionalism. Also they had reported my details to energy company which kept on chasing me and sending reminder over text, email and call which i had to raise a complaint to address it but agent didn't help to resolve it at all while they had informed Energy company on my details as moving, they should have reported move in cancellation. I followed up with agent but of no support and Energy company wasn't actioning on details i shared.

Stressful experience (Croydon Thornton Heath)

I had the most stressful experience with this company (Croydon Thornton Heath Branch). All i wanted was to transfer to a new house peacefully but i was treated unprofessionally. I even received a call from an agent and I felt attacked by his words. He was really rude and couldn’t control his temper. Before we gave the holding deposit we were informed that our requests should not be a problem but after paying, the agent told me that my requests are not reasonable. The terms were not agreed so we ask for a refund. The experience after this was the worst. They kept us hanging without clear answers and seemed like they want us to wait forever. Take note, they never called back even though they said otherwise. I needed to call them several times and ask for an update and most of the time i felt like they were trying to ignore me. I hope no one will have to deal with this kind of stress, so if you are looking for a property, cross this branch out.

Bad experience

Barnard Marcus Croydon Branch - very rude and unprofessional sales agent. If there is a zero star, I would have ticked that. It's the first time that I have encountered a letting agent who couldn't handle his temper. I was talking to the phone with him and all he did was shout. I was talking to him in a very professional manner but he won't do the same. This agency will make you feel like you owe them. They want you to adjust to their liking instead of the other way around. They can be very manipulative and just plain rude.I had a very horrible experience. Please, please if you are looking for a property, there are better agencies than this.

I've had a bad experience with most of the branches I've dealt with

I've had a bad experience with most of the branches I've dealt withBarnard Marcus Sutton. You put an offer on a property, they don't even bother to reply and instead, they book you an appointment with their mortgage advisor without letting you know anything about your offer.Barnard Marcus Streatham. We found a listing of nice property and contacted the Agent through Zoopla. They called us back early in the morning and the first thing they tried to book an appointment with a mortgage advisor. We reassured him we have Mips and an actual mortgage approved for a similar property with a similar price, we just want to see the house. We're happy to speak with your mortgage advisor if there's an accepted offer. He booked the viewing for late afternoon.30 minutes before the viewing, we received an email for a booking of a second house near the first one, which was not in line on what we wanted. We've instantly smelled that the first property was just a bait to view the second one. We called him to tell the following:1 - We don't want to see the second property2 - Is the first property for real? Are we going to see it?He confirmed that was all good for the first property. This happened literally 20 minutes before the viewing. We went to the property, some lights were on inside. No "ON SALE" sign outside. The agent arrived and he knocked gently at the door, almost inaudible. He then said "Excuse me" and disappeared for few minutes. He came back and to tell us that he was sorry there was a problem and we wouldn't be able to see the property. He mentioned Portugal, Covid and things like this. He literally confirmed the viewing 20 minutes before. How come you don't know these things, It's your job. Why wasting people time? That confirms the thesis that the property was just a bait to take potential buyers to see other properties.I'm wondering if the owner of the house knows that they are using it in that way. Barnard Marcus, avoid.

Wallington Branch - Disappointing

We used Barnard Marcus Wallington as our estate agent to sell our property. At the time we were very impressed by Alex - who showed genuine interest in the property and instilled confidence compared to other local estate agents we looked at. Barnard Marcus marketed themselves as a premium service and the price was a little more expensive than others but we decided to proceed because we thought it would help with the sale of the property.Whilst we initially let the estate agent do the viewings, we weren’t confident that the member of staff knew the features of the property - arriving at the same time as the first viewers meant that he hadn’t even looked round the property he was selling. From there we decided to do the viewings ourselves. Just two weeks into the process, we were contacted by the estate agent to drop the price of the property by £15,000. We were pretty appalled at the timing of this, we were still getting two or three viewings a week. We were hassled at least three times to do this by the branch manager by email, despite having received a courtesy call by head office to say the price was right and viewings were good. When we did sell the property, the estate agent recommended their solicitors, and unfortunately our buyers proceeded with them. The result was two months with no progress on the purchase. The buyers rightly moved to a different solicitor but this caused a long delay. We didn’t receive a single courtesy call from the branch throughout the process, we had no main point of contact either. It would really benefit them to have a dedicated person responsible between offer and completion. The result was that we were regularly ignored by the branch manager who would at one point told us that we’d be better off communicating with our buyers through solicitors. In fairness, the only person who was consistently reliable was Alex, although i expect it was outside his role. The lack of communication was particularly noticeable when we were trying to push to exchange with our buyers and had a few hiccups. No one followed up to check this had been resolved and if they had they might of actually picked up on the fact we had exchanged, and were ready to complete on Friday. The branch manager seemed bemused that no one had told him which was laughable.Overall service was ok - but not worth the money.

Our agent Dagmara is simply the best! Highly recommend

I must say our agent Dagmara every step of the way has been exemplary- she put us first as the client and was extremely patient whilst we found our perfect home to move to. She kept our buyer interested and stayed in communication with us, without pushing us hard, we got the sense she actually cared about what we wanted and needed instead of just making a sale. Very effective service from start to completion. Thank you so much, I highly recommend you guys.

Rental

I don't normally leave reviews but this time I had too.Found a flat online. I was told the landlord was looking for a long let and good tenants. Was in Italy at the time so couldn't see the place other than what's app videos I was also told parking was available. We got a unfurnished flat. Moved in on the 1st Jan 2021. On the 12th Jan 2021 had calls from another agent. Who had the property for sale. Asking to do viewings during lock down and covid. We asked Barnard Marcus if the landlord wanted to sell, the agent said no.The landlord had viewing since November 2020. (I'm sure Barnard Marcus was aware of these)I wish Barnard Marcus had been honest with us from the get go.So only do we have no parking and was lied to about that. We also have to move out in 6 months. The place was unfurnished, so we spent 6k on furniture had to pay 6 months rent up front. (12k) Had lots of issues of with the flat. A month later its finally being looked into (property management is not very good). At the end of the day, we would have been happy if we found a place with a long let with parking. But at the end of the day nobody likes being lied to. Moving forward we will be triple checking everything with our next place as we don't want to be in this position again.

disgusting and unprofessional

I viewed a flat with them and they asked for holding deposit! just to put my offer forward to the landlord!!!! and they said we will refund you if the landlord did not accept your offer. Now imagine this could be 10 days of my time wasting if the answer was no. I decided to not to that BUT this is a total lose for the landlords because my offer could have been accepted if that landlord was aware but never been put forward. I would not wanted that if I was a landlord.

Very unprofessional

Very unprofessional. Letted a property through them, had issues with people randomly accessing the property, scheduling viewings without even asking. Absolutely useless at doing any sort of repairs. Still waiting about 6 months for the intercom to be fixed.Currently, the boiler is broken so I don't have hot water or heating and it is 0 degrees - tried contacting them multiple times but they just don't care. In the 13 years I have rented in the UK, I have near had to deal with such incompetence...

The worst agency I ever had to deal…

The worst agency I ever had to deal with. The contract and they said everything works in the house perfectly whereas when we moved in there was no heating and hot water in the house at end of November. The property manager's response to this after days of waiting for someone to come and fix it, she said it's not an emergency so they can't act without the landlords approval. If something broke in the house and I called them they told us someone is coming to have a look, but no one ever came. When we left with no explanation they took some of our deposit, had to call 3 times to get it sorted and we are still waiting..

Earl’s Court Branch

A heartfelt thanks to branch manager Vicky Horseman, Sales Manager Nathan Davis and their colleagues in the Earl’s Courts Branch for the professionalism, dedication, efficiency and effectiveness of their incredible support throughout the long process of my ultimately successful flat sale. They made a fraught process (no fault of Barnard Marcus) bearable and left no stone unturned in rapidly dealing with obstacles, finding solutions and driving progress. They were a pleasure to deal with throughout and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

If I could zero star I would!! I have been horrified with the incompetence of this team. I rent and prior to moving into the property it was dirty and no been looked after in the slightest. I have been here for 15 months now and I have had multiple problems (rat infestation, broken freezer, broken doorbell just to name a few) and I’m still awaiting these problems to be fixed. Apparently they are struggling to contact our landlady but it’s been 5/6 months with no contact at all. It’s pathetic!

100% INCOMPETENCE. Best score ever!!

In a scale from 0 to 10 (zero the worst), I have to give BM ZERO for 3 reasons:At the beginning of tenancy BM left me outside the flat for hours because the contract was not signed (when it should have been already signed. I signed the 9/7 and I had to access the flat the 21/7),BM never provided me the calculations and timely infos in order to pay the rent increases for inflations, and now BM cannot handle the end of tenancy professionally (meaning they didnt send me the calc for the last partial month, and I am waiting the deposit refund (already approved 100%) since 1 month. BM has 3 tasks (when it comes to relations with tenants) and they failed miserably on all 3.

Our experience was getting worse and worse

I don't even know from where to begin to express how awful of a relationship myself and my partner had with them. Here are just a few of the cases we had to go through with the extremely unreliable and unprofessional agent Andreja Kmetovic (branch West Kensington):- They locked us out of our flat after we came back from abroad. We had to sleep in a hotel for the night and didn't get reimbursed. - When we tried to leave earlier and past our break clause they lied about us having to pay 200£ for every month until the end of our agreement.- We waited for 4 months to get our deposit back. This action required a several days of emails back and forth because our agent didn't make an effort to let the branch know.- The flat had mice (never fixed) and broken boiler (fixed but we stayed without hot water for 3 week).- Our keys got stolen and they refused to make a copy so we had to do it ourselves.- The let agreement we signed was about 40 pages long and quite confusing. All of this happened during a very hard time in our personal lives and living there made it 10 times worse. We couldn't wait to move out. I'll never go near their office ever again.
