My daughter liked a flat (Tooting Broadway agent) and was asked to make a £50 deposit, which she was happy to do. She had to wait for 2 weeks before Marcus came back saying the landlord has rejected her offer as a tenant because they wanted a male tenant (not mentioned at the beginning). She has asked for her £50 deposit to be returned only to be told that the person who could authorize the refund was on holiday until Tuesday week. What a rotten shower.

TrustpilotThey should be investigated
2017My first experience with Barnard Marcus was when I was looking for a house to rent with my partner. We found a house we would have liked to view in Worcester Park advertised at £1050pcm. We went inside and it was so tiny, you could not fit a bed in the 1 bedroomed apartment. I politely declined to put an offer forward and I had the estate agent messaging my phone until 11:30pm at night about why I should put an offer forward and that I was ungrateful! He then proceeded to call my partner the next day and yelled at him on the phone. Thinking back now I should have contacted the police for harassment but we were so young and naive. few days later he messaged again asking it we would take the property for £925. I laughed and told him where to go.2019After living in Sutton for the past 3 years we are now in a position which we are ready to buy. I found a house in Sutton Common which had been on the market since May 2019 for £350,000 (Its now October) From viewing the property it was easy to understand why it had been on the market for so long as the place was filthy, stunk of damp and there was a boiler in the second bedroom (on the floor!!) Nevertheless we saw an opportunity and we like a project, so we decided to put an offer forward. The estate agent also told us that the lady was desperate to move out as she wanted to live further south with her grandson. Going from back and forth communication, to literally no communication at all, I had to call up a number of times to find out what was going on with our offer. The estate agent responded that they had declined our offer. I was suspicious of this as they had not told me in writing nor had put my offer forward in writing. I called up to request more information and was only to be snubbed by the manager Chris who was very sarcastic about my offer. Its funny to me that its still on the market now but not funny for that poor lady! (On a side note they also pressured us to use their financial advisors and said ‘it will help with your offer’ which I have learned is illegal to say. When I said no, they responded with “well if you want to miss out on that opportunity then thats up to you”)I definitely will NOT be using them again. I really hope the old lady in the house in Sutton Common can be with her grandson soon and not be conned by the slime balls in Barnard Marcus.

TrustpilotIncompetent
I have been having difficulty selling my house.I received a letter from Barnard Marcus saying they were aware of this & that they could help. They arranged a home visit. Less than 2 hours before the appointment they phoned to say there was no point in them coming as they don't do my area.

TrustpilotThe experience is beyond horrible
I had one of the worst experiences with Barnard Marcus. They don't provide the contract until the moving date. When they gave us the contract, the address, name and price are all incorrect. Not to mention, their employees attitude is beyond horrible. For example, when I asked them to provide the contract 1 week before the starting date of the contract. The agent shouted it at me that it's not like signing the contract on the moving date, we still have time.First of all, people should receive the contract few weeks in advance. And the most unforgivable part is the attitude, you should not shout it to your customer because you already received the deposit. We are still your customer and Barnard Marcus should complete their duty even after receiving the money! If you need to find a letting agent please don't go with Barand Marcus!!! So disappointed! Even now they still have not correct the address on the contract!

TrustpilotDISHONEST in the extreme
I am so angry with my experience. Bought a property via auction at the end of July. Was unable to view the property beforehand nor did I receive a call from Barnard Marcus to tell me I had won the property. I got my solicitor to do all the searches and liaise with the seller's solicitor and arranged my mortgage and valuation only to receive a phone call tonight (6pm on Friday), seven weeks after the auction to tell me that the seller has had a higher offer and will I increase my offer? I find out that all the properties that "sold" in the auction have been re-listed for sale via rightmove etc and it appears the seller had no intention of following through with the auction. Exclusive / Barnard Marcus have said I will not receive money back for expenses I have incurred. This place is extremely unprofessional and take no responsibility.

TrustpilotCannot be trusted!
Happily accepted my offer on a property to rent. Paid a deposit. They then told me that i had a CCJ so have failed the referencing!! Gave me some lame excuse and said i can't have my money back. I advised that i have the most recent copy of my credit report which shows i have no CCJ, but they were not interested! Now have to start a process all over again and somehow how to replace the money that they happily took with no remorse!

TrustpilotThey treat buyers TERRIBLY! DO NOT work with them!
The treat buyers/potential buyers HORRIBLYI had one bad experience with Barnard Marcus last year and swore them off but they were the sole agent for another house I wanted to see and so foolishly, went back.Experience 1 - Child's Hill 2018I arranged a viewing for a house and the agent asked TONS of questions about my finances, even though I had my mortgage in principle somewhere else was really pushy for me to meet their in house financial advisor no matter how many times I said I didn't want to. He then assured me that I didn't have to but then gave their financial advisor my personal details anyway and I started getting hounded by him. When I declined to meet with him again, the agent said I couldn't view the property because the developer was 'having work done on the kitchen that hadn't finished'. I arranged a viewing with another company who also had the listing and they confirmed that the house was finished months earlier and no work had taken place on the kitchen on the day Barnard Marcus said I couldn't see the property because of the work....Basically, I was lied to and had my viewing cancelled as punishment for not wanting to be sold a bunch of products in a pressured environment.Experience 2 - Putney 2019This was just a joke. On the day we viewed the property the first time (a Saturday), the agent said 'If you want this you have to move really quickly, there is an offer on the table and the seller is deciding on Monday' so we felt we had to decide there and then. On Monday we put and offer in and all the old pressure started. 'We have to see your payslips, bank statements, employment records etc.' We were told that it would impact us negatively and the seller might not take our offer if we didn't meet with their in house mortgage advisor EVEN THOUGH I SAID WE HAD FINANCING IN PLACE AND I DIDN'T WANT TO MEET HIM. I was then called by the 'manager' and told that it would put me at a disadvantage if I didn't come in to meet their financial advisor, I asked how or why and they said 'It just looks better to the buyer if we do a financial verification.' I argued that they already had my statements, my payslips which is so much more than an agent needs; it is for my bank to decide if I can afford it, not for the seller's agent!!!! They also said that we would have to increase our offer, even though the seller was supposedly in a rush to accept an offer days before. We took this opportunity to view the property again (the next Saturday) and then EVEN MORE pressure started. 3 calls within 1 hour that day. Then that Monday I got a message saying 'You have until 10am to submit your offer' then once that came and went I was getting messages saying 'You have until midday to submit' and on and on. Not only had they demanded a ridiculous amount of documents that had nothing to do with them, they were rude, pushy, unhelpful and generally horrific to deal with. Honestly, I could write so much more about how abysmal they are but the other feedback on here says it all really. If I could give them minus stars, I would. Rotten culture to the core, as the other reviews attest.

TrustpilotRude and unprofessional
The WORST estate agent (Sydenham Branch) I have ever used. So bad I wanted to pull out of the sale but I had already found a property. Some staff were amazing, but the branch manager was the most unprofessional, rude person I have ever dealt with.I originally instructed them when a previous manager run the office. Sadly, he had moved on by time I marketed (2nd time).

Barnard Marcus have been BY FAR the worst lettings agency I have dealt with. It seems like the number one job requirement is to be rude, careless and respond to emails with as much delay as possible. Particularly the Surbiton branch. If you can do anything and I mean anything to avoid working with them, I suggest you do that. Otherwise, you'll just find yourself frustrated and helpless! If there was a lower rating than this, I would've given it to them without a doubt.

TrustpilotAbysmal service - avoid like the plague
Barnard Marcus "managed" the property we lived in for two years.Appalling service: both property coordinators in charge of the property were equally as incompetent and the first one was extremely rude. The list of issues is too long to include in this review and the lack of reactivity or interest on their part was just staggering. As an example, they had no trace of who carried out the inventory & check out and they had no idea what scheme our deposit was put into...I hope I don't ever have to deal with Barnard Marcus again - if you can avoid them, definitely do!

TrustpilotAvoid!
Front office negotiators and managers were incompetent - when we initially put an offer in to let a flat they had worked out pricings wrong for deposit etc which we had to correct them. Throughout our time at the property they got our names wrong numerous times despite us again correcting them - it got to the point where we thought they were making a joke out of calling us by the incorrect names - very unprofessional. They also took my contact details wrong again despite me correcting them so I missed emails that were sent to me on plenty of occasionsThe Property Management team have no sense of urgency. We had broken oven for 2 months which we were unable to use at all - it seemed like we were chasing them as opposed to them chasing the landlord. Told it would be escalated but never was. We were advised to just try plugging the oven into a different plug socket to see if it would work which was ridiculous as the oven was fitted into a wall cabinet. Other things reported in the flat never fixed. Constantly us chasing for updates, never them coming to us with a solution. Deposit took over 10 working days to be returned, again we had to chase on this I've rented for 4 years and this is the WORST experience I've ever had.

Rude, pushy and aggressive - avoid at all costs. I rang to request to see a few property brochures and see what was available - was put through to a woman who asked me 101 questions then became angry when I refused to answer some personal ones. I quote 'I'm not driving down and wasting my time if you refuse to answer' - I wasn't trying to book a viewing, and would have shared my info if I was shown brochure and saw a property I liked.

TrustpilotLife Wreckers
Hello, Branch - South Croydon With regret I'm having to write this about Barnard Marcus.Just when you think we can trust an agency, that's when everything goes wrong! The suit & tie was the only thing professional about you. Myself & my brother had struggled for over 3 months just to get one place. Barnard had appointed the house to another tenant.Lives mean nothing BUT money does? Would love to name and shame right now but won't help the situation. Please use this review to avoid disappointment. Don't understand how estate agencies get away with this? #Allthebest

TrustpilotPoor service and bordering on illegal behaviours
I was a tenant with them. Very slow response time to any queries or concerns. I had to send numerous mails to request getting some mould in my bathroom removed. It took months to eventually fix. I had to email environmental health before they would respond to me. They gave the contractor the wrong house key when they came to finally do the work and when the contractor could not get inside they tried to charge me the call abort fee. It was exhausting dealing with them and they really are just a gang of crooks. Would not recommend from a tenant point of view as they charge very high fees also. If someone was not mature enough to stick up for themselves them would be severely out of pocket and living in a mould infested property.

TrustpilotAppalling company who seem only interested in their overinflated commission
If I could give Barnard Marcus 0 stars I would. Whilst they may have sold my property. In 6 months they found 1 potential buyer and I had to show him round. Throughout the entire period I had to chase them I complained on numerous occasions but nothing changed, and in the end when I complained formally in writing the response was "We understand you're not happy with the way your sale had been handled but none of the problems stopped the sale going through"Hopefully I'll never have to move again but if I do it won't be with Barnard Marcus.

Trustpilotbad company, unprofessional team, no respect for customers
We have been tenants with Barnard Marcus (Sequence LTD) for 2 years. Dealing with them has been one of the most frustrating experiences I ever had. The first problems started even before entering our new house because Tooting Offices did not process the contract on time. As consequence our entrance was delayed one day. After 2 years living in the property, our tenancy agreement ended on a 24th Sept and I claimed my deposit back immediately after. My deposit was not transferred back to my account until the second week of December. During that period I claimed it repeatedly by phone, email and in person, providing all the details they needed to process the refund every single time. I spoke with 9 different employees from different departments and none of them was competent enough to solve the situation nor even give me a reasonable explanation for the delay in the transfer. Most of my emails and phone calls were ignored and on those times when I was lucky enough that someone answered the phone I only received vague excuses asking me to wait a few more days to receive the monies, or claiming that it might be caused by a problem with my bank account. I asked my bank twice and nothing was wrong with my account, transfers should be received in 2 hours max. After complaining through their internal procedure, rising a dispute on the deposit through TDS and threatening them to contact the property Ombudsman before taking legal action the monies were received into my account (3 months after our tenancy agreement ended). Since nothing changed from the first day I claimed the deposit (same bank account, same recipients name, same reference, same everything) and they refused to send me any details on the transfers they “were attempting” I just assume they did not try even once until they were pressed by a third party.I will never deal with Barnard Marcus again in the future. Useless company, unprofessional team and total lack of respect for their customers.

TrustpilotRUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
They are selling a property above my flat. The refurbishment of this property caused a lot of damages to my flat and the owner after one year, didn’t manage to repair it yet. I called the company (Barnard Marcus) to inform them that before selling the flat we have to resolve the issues with the owner, I have spoken with the manager in Croydon and he was so unrespectful, he laughed on me and he told me that they have the keys so they can sell it.This is unacceptable, the agency should be informed if a flat has pending debs or issues before selling it, unrespectful and unprofessional!!! Also... I ask to remove the ad panel for the flat as they put it in the wrong place, outside of my window, instead of putting it outside of the right flat. I called them last week, I called again after 2 days and they told me that they would remove it soon. One week is gone and the panel is still there. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS AGENCY AT ALL, ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

If you are reading the review and wondering which agency to work with for your property then you can go ahead and call them .
