TrustpilotAvoid this disgusting company
Avoid this letting agent to save yourself a lot of time and money. It takes weeks for them to arrange critical repair works and they are reluctant to pay for any non-essential works; I was told this by numerous engineers who carried out work at the flat, they made recommendations but warned that Hastings never pay for these works. The property management team are extremely rude are a complete nightmare to deal with, when it comes to reclaiming the deposit they will charge for existing damage and completely disregard any email correspondence when submitting final claim amounts, it is scandalous. We changed a tenant part way though our letting period and the inventory check needed to be redone. We were given no warning prior to the inventory check being carried out. Many of our items were included in the new inventory check and Hastings refused to remove them despite us telling them via email, they also created absurd charges for cleaning despite us still living there. When it came to the end of the tenancy they refused to take the original inventory check and the email chains discussing the removal of our personal items as proof that items were not originally in the flat.By far the worst company i've had to deal with. Avoid this company at all costs, absolute parasites.

GoogleThe worst property agent I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Their handling of our tenancy agreement was very disorganised, and they left everything until the last minute which left us worrying if we'd even have a place to live. They only accept references from an agency called Rent4Sure who are terrible to deal with and will force you to provide excessive amounts of personal data compared to the alternatives. Then 90 days before your tenancy expires they will try to badger you into signing a renewal agreement by threatening to put your flat back on the market, misrepresenting your statutory rights in the process, and won't take no for an answer even after being told multiple times. I tried phoning them to tell them the matter was closed and to stop emailing me, and the agent was very rude and insisted on turning it into an argument. Avoid at all costs.
Edit: after telling Kay Kendall at least 10 times that we wouldn't be renewing our tenancy contract with them, she emailed our landlord this morning to tell them that we had agreed to renewing the contract. The level of dishonesty of this company is beyond belief.

GoogleThey are VERY unprofessional, and unresponsive. Experts at dodging calls. The apartment toilet had been broken and they REFUSED to contact the plumbers to get it fixed. Finally got through to them after TWO weeks of calls and emails.
I feel compelled to let others know just how awful the experience has been.
I agree with the other tenants who have been giving 1 star reviews as well - The 5 star reviews are obviously written by their management team.

GoogleRented with Hastings for one year, will NEVER rent with them again.
- Maintenance issues were either ignored or dealt with poorly, with our property manager Louise taking weeks to respond to emails and avoiding phone calls.
- When we asked about renewing, they demanded a rent increase. When we said we'd look elsewhere, they remarketed the property at a lower rate than what we had been paying.
- Upon leaving, Hastings ignored requests for a deposit return for a full 6 weeks. When they finally replied, they presented us with a huge list of false claims against our deposit, and we were forced to use the DPS resolution service to get our deposit back, which took months.
Deeply unprofessional, do not act in the interests of the landlords or the tenants, avoid at all costs.NegativeResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism

TrustpilotImproved services to be expected
I have appointed Hastings to manage my flat for many years. Perhaps due to COVID-19, their services have declined dramatically in the past 2 years. For example, they were supposed to follow up with the insurance company regarding water leakage to the tenants beneath but I have not been informed of the progress even though I have asked them twice if I could claim back the money that I spent on fixing the water leakage. Recently, my tenants complained about the hot plate what was not working and Hastings asked me for options. I asked Hastings to seek my tenants’ preferences on either the solid or ceramic hot plate instead of my making decisions for them. It has been 3 weeks but I have not heard anything from them. I sincerely hope that Hastings can improve their services.

TrustpilotWe have a property in London managed by…
We have a property in London managed by Hastings since 2018. Service has been alright and they did take care of the mess left by the first tenant. Communication with them can be spotty, especially with Louise, the property manager. We recently had a rent payment not coming through to our bank and repeated inquiries with her weren't responded to in a timely manner. Eventually, I was able to get in contact with their managing director, Morris. I wish everyone else would handle issues with a sense of urgency and care like Morris, who authorized a second payment transfer immediately when they found out their bank dropped the original transfer without explanation. I have always complained to them about their rent payment process as they would delay payment when the scheduled event falls on a holiday (like Christmas) or weekend. The length of time taken for the money to go through the UK banking system doesn't help either. Their fees are not exactly exorbitant when compared to the likes of JLL. Since they actively solicit feedbacks by emailing clients, I hope they do take whatever complaints raised seriously and improve service to everyone, landlords or tenants.

TrustpilotJeez Louise
It's become a running joke with my housemate to see how Louise from Hastings responds to our emails! Comically snarky and unhelpful (well you have to laugh because it's so ridiculous, but considering it's our livelihood maybe not). We had mold growing on our wall (looked like water damage) that took about 9 months to be seen to. As the liaison with our landlord, we were shocked when they actually tried to raise rent in the height of COVID lockdown and no one was moving into the city- couldn't tell if that was their idea or the landlord's, but they could've at least tried talking him out out of that.

TrustpilotHastings Rotherhithe.
I can recommend this agency to landlords. They’ve let my flat in Bermondsey for over 7 years. The tenants they brought in have all been reliable and contented - this to me is their stand-out skill. They are professional and on the whole fair. A few unexpected costs have popped up, but nothing intolerable. In addition they have been prepared to offer occasional advice and support on management. Good job so far - thanks.

TrustpilotCompany let down by Maintenance Department and greedy landlords.
This company is let down in the way it handles its tenants. It clearly looks after the landlords by obtaining Tenants for their properties but it needs to let the land lords know with the expensive rents they are charging the tenants need to be valued so when ever the property needs maintaining they should allow Hastings to get the maintenance done !! Tenants should be respected especially long standing ones ! Tenants have a right to expect a standard of maintenance and if the toilets do not flush or the bathroom fittings are coming off the wall and there is damp on the walls, why don't they just get it fixed ! why does the tenant have to keep chasing the maintenance department to get jobs done! It is after all an investment to keep a property in good order as bad maintenance will devalue a property if and when they want to sell.I feel sorry for the staff as you keep ringing until you are blue in the face to get things maintained. The poor tenant shows care and attention by reporting items and situations that need maintaining but the maintenance department spend ages getting quotes from all over then the repairs come to nothing. However Kay in the lettings department has always been fair with us throughout our tenancy. Now we are in a pandemic and people are waking up to the fact they are being overcharged for a shoebox and they want space and fresh air, many people are moving out of London and working from home in the country. Tenants will want value for money as they realise they do actually have an alternative now.

TrustpilotGood Service - Responsive and takes care of my interest as landlord
Contrary to many of the bad reviews here, I think Hastings has provided me (landlord) a good service and were responsive to my requests. I want to specially commend Louise, Kay, Bobby and in the past Paul Curtis who assisted me with renting out my property and managing it thereafter.Though the experience is not totally problem free from securing a tenant to administrative things like invoicing and payments, I think overall the experience is positive and the mistakes are negligible. Handling the tenants and administrative stuff like various payments to the agencies gave me (a Singapore landlord) a peace of mind to almost be hands-free.I hope Hastings will continue to provide good service till the end of our working relationship. I would recommend Hastings to fellow landlords from Singapore. To other customers of Hastings, I don't know your experience, but I guess if you mistreat the service staff at Hastings, it is likely that you will not get good service. How about you try to be nicer to people and I believe the kindness will be reciprocated? works both ways right?

TrustpilotAvoid at all cost
I had the displeasure of renting a property through Hastings International back in 2016, recently came across it again and decided I should inform others about horrible experience that is still haunting me. I dealt with many over the years (moved 6 times around London by now) and Hastings International is by far the worst I've ever interacted with. Just to name a few things from the top of my head: 1) when I moved in there was a huge pile of mail on the floor, including letters from police and council about a broken intruder alarm that was haunting neighbors, agency made zero effort to rectify this, ignored my calls and emails; 2) While our contract stated we had to give notice 1 month before end of tenancy if we wanted to vacate or extend, Hastings International kept harassing me with phone calls 2 months in advance, almost every day, asking for an answer; 3) Hastings demanded I pay them £60 to provide a reference for me to the new agency after we decided to move, there was zero mention about this fee in the contract or on their website (they had no information about fees displayed, which now is thankfully banned), they effectively held us to ransom at that point because we had to move and they were not willing to have it disputed; 4) After we've spent a whole day religiously cleaning the flat for closure of the tenancy, they said there was a little bit of dust on a skirting board behind the bed and charged us £120; the flat was DIRTY when we moved in. Thanks.
