TrustpilotYou will never get your deposit back
I’ve been a tenant with Hastings for 12 months and after the end of tenancy, it took me almost four months to get my deposit back. First they ignored my emails and phone calls for three months and then they kept coming up with new lies about damage that was already there on check in. We got our deposit back after endless email chains and phone conversations but let this be a warning for everybody who wants to rent at Hastings. Also other reviews at this platform confirm that this is not an incident but common practice at HastingsMy advice: if you ever become a tenant with Hastings, make sure you make pictures of every minor damage (if in doubt, add it to the check in report) because they will try to cut your deposit even if the damage was already there.

The client vetting has been commendable; they have dealt with the (few) problems arising; they have dealt professionally with all matters relating to services (tax, gas, electricity, etc); and have (to my knowledge, at least) established good working relations with our tenants. This has all been of great benefit as we live abroad.

I have been a customer for 9 years. My experience with the company as a landlord based in the USA has been outstanding. The company is extremely efficient and responsive. They are able to rent the flats relatively quickly at good rents. They also take care of all maintenance issues in a timely manner. They manage the finances impeccably. I can’t recommend them highly enough. I specifically want to highlight two individuals who work there, Kay and Jason. They are extremely professional, diligent, dedicated, and talented. Absolutely delightful to work with. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I have used Hastings International to manage my rental property for a number of years now and they have always been very responsive, providing helpful guidance when tenants move on and with respect to changing landlords responsibilities, and my property has never been vacant for more than a day or so. I do think that the accounts they provide for each tax year could be a bit more user friendly (they are cumulative accounts and it would be easier if they more clearly and simply stated the tax year rental income and the tax year expenses).

While Hastings International has provided good service, it can improve on certain areas e.g my previous tenant moved out and left the apartment in a mess with work to be done to make it livable and I had to foot the bill. The deposit money from the previous tenant is meant to cover such costs. For the deposit money to be released, I was told it had to be done by a solicitor. Due to Covid, it was not released as the solicitor was working from home. Since Freedom Day, where normal life has been restored, I have yet to receive the deposit money. Hastings has fallen short in service in this respect.

GoogleAvoid at all cost I had the displeasure of renting a property through Hastings International back in 2016, recently came across it again and decided I should inform others about horrible experience that is still haunting me. I dealt with many over the years (moved 6 times around London by now) and Hastings International is by far the worst I've ever interacted with. Just to name a few things from the top of my head: 1) when I moved in there was a huge pile of mail on the floor, including letters from police and council about a broken intruder alarm that was haunting neighbors, agency made zero effort to rectify this, ignored my calls and emails; 2) While our contract stated we had to give notice 1 month before end of tenancy if we wanted to vacate or extend, Hastings International kept harassing me with phone calls 2 months in advance, almost every day, asking for an answer; 3) Hastings demanded I pay them £60 to provide a reference for me to the new agency after we decided to move, there was zero mention about this fee in the contract or on their website (they had no information about fees displayed, which now is thankfully banned), they effectively held us to ransom at that point because we had to move and they were not willing to have it disputed; 4) After we've spent a whole day religiously cleaning the flat for closure of the tenancy, they said there was a little bit of dust on a skirting board behind the bed and charged us £120; the flat was DIRTY when we moved in.
