It should be possible to give 0 stars…

It should be possible to give 0 star reviews because it would be entirely relevant for this business.Despite being able to go on for days about how unprofessional, rude and disinterested the Letting Manager was at the Addiscombe Road, Croydon branch, the short version of this is just how abysmal each and every person managed to be at their job. From the point of holding deposit payment there was a complete lack of communication that in the end, caused us to have to pay an additional months rent at our old address simply because they took too long to confirm whether or not we were able to hand our notice in.On one occasion when trying to get through to the Letting Manager, Anton, he outright told me that Anton was out of the office...while speaking to me. Information was constantly contradictory from the same person as they tried to give me the run around by not being able to answer simple questions. I eventually had to find and contact the landlord myself to get any form of movement and the only reason i didnt withdraw my application (deposit be damned) is because BM would not be the property managers and so i wouldnt have to deal with them again. My partner and I had come a private landlord before this and needless to say, BM completely ruined any positive experience of dealing with a letting agent. I wish i had done my research beforehand as i would have held out for a company that seemed to actually care about tenants in any way.

Great experience with Ealing branch

I used Barnard Marcus in Ealing to sell my flat and having dealt with many Estate Agents in Ealing I found these guys to be a breath of fresh air. I initially dealt with Kelly who was on the ball and understood the potential of my flat and, unlike other agents, didn't try to persuade me to drop the price in order to get a quick sale. Lee dealt with the clients and did a superb job with the negotiation and was helpful and proactive to ensure the sale went through fast and smoothly (it actually went through in 5wks from offer to completion, which I still can't believe!) There were a few lumps and bumps along the way with solicitors, but Kelly stepped in as soon as I raised the issue with her and promptly sorted it out.I guess the quality of service comes down the personalities involved and based on my experience with these guys I would not hesitate in recommending them.

When you try to buy your first property…

When you try to buy your first property the stress levels are so high, specially if you have been in this country only for 4 years however we were very lucky to come across Enrique Bosch. He was by our side throughout the whole process and explained everything step by step, always trying to find the best mortgage deal for us. We don't know if we would accomplish our dream without his support.! Thank you so much Enrique!

Avoid. Do not put your home on the market with them.

Initially we were impressed, but I think we had one good agent in an office of inexperienced, unproductive, un-proactive and very negative agents. The good agent left, and the stark ineptness of their branch stood out like a sore thumb (Kennington). We also ended up on the market with them for 20 weeks (locked into a contract, where the time frame wasn't highlighted to us. FYI it's in the very, very small print on the back of the (5?) page contract, so be warned). Our notice period was 4 weeks, and when we asked to be released 2 weeks early, they refused to budge. Even though they seemed tired and bored with our property, and certainly didn't seem to care to try to sell it in this period. We wasted time, they wasted our time, their manager was incredibly rude as well, which was very upsetting (we complained, it was 'resolved' in the way these things actually rarely are). Overall, their dour and miserable outlook seemed to seep into everything. I wonder if this negativity (probably spun as realism) is writ into their training, as we got a similar bleak and negative chat from a BM agent on the other side, when we were trying to buy. Which made us avoid looking at any properties for sale with them. They made the exhausting, emotional and difficult process of house selling ten times worse. And when we gave our notice they didn't even bother to say, 'we'll endeavour to sell your property in the intervening time' (which would have been a good party line, even if they weren't planning to). We finally switched agents and sold within 2 weeks. Painful. Don't fall into the same trap. Avoid.

So far the best agency I have had the pleasure to experience. While having to move in the heart of the coronavirus pandemic could have ended up as a disaster, Giorgia made sure that it went smoothly by arranging a convenient and secure viewing of the flat. Giorgia was very friendly, honest and professional during the visit and successfully made her best to push my offer forwards. Assisted by her colleague Andreja, I was very satisfied to be able to move in when it was convenient for me and not to struggle to get the check-in inventory.PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

What can I say about Barnard Marcus?

From making a call to the office and booking the valuation of our property, the service provided to us has been exemplary.A very professional young lady arrived to carry out the valuation and it was recommended to delay listing as we were very close to Christmas. This did not delay Barnard Marcus in arranging viewing appointments from the very next day.Two very able and competent young ladies were put in charge of selling our flat and there was no slacking in arranging appointment after appointment. As many as three on some Saturdays. One young lady moved on from the company, but Shahana stayed and continued doing her very best to get our property sold.We feel her selling skills were really put to the test with our home and she eventually found a buyer who was just right for it. We are pleased to have procured the services of Barnard Marcus to sell our home and particularly Shahana for her expertise and professionalism and would be more than happy to recommend their services to everyone selling their property.A big thank you to Barnard Marcus and a big thumbs up to Shahana for all her professional help and guidance during the processMassive thumbs up & well done to all

Barnard Marcus Wallington Big SCAM…

Avoid using/selling/renting via them. Specially Elliott Kind and Alex Woods, 2 of the most unprofessional and unethical people I ever had the displeasure of meeting. Barnard Marcus Wallington is nothing short of a disaster. Incompetent team members, some are passive aggressive. Liers and extremely unprofessional. Mis-marketed and mis-sold - I complained to their compliance team and they offered me some compensation (wasn’t enough to cover cost of stress). I raised the issue with the Ombudsman now. It’s extremely important that all disgruntled customers to follow complaint process so they’ll learn a lesson.

A special thank you to Aaron, Evan, Ajay and Kecia who helped me throughout this process. The sales team were always able to help me when needed and they were very effective in their work. I would highly recommend using Barnard Marcus if you are looking to buy or sell a property. Thank you ever so much.

Barnard Marcus is a disgrace - AVOID

Landlords tend to get a bad rap and it’s often well justified. However, there’s a strong case for looking at the role of management companies in promulgating these perceptions. Barnard Marcus is one such company. I had them manage my house in Tooting, which I let out while working overseas. It was one of my worst decisions. They were dreadful: lazy, uninterested, unresponsive, incompetent and, in my view, dishonest.- Barnard Marcus spent in excess of £1,200 over and above the amount they quoted to me for professional cleaning, without seeking my approval first. They refused a refund.- Barnard Marcus did not do the house inspections as contracted, because they didn't have a key (it admitted this was the case and admitted to not doing the property checks). It did nothing to get a key or get access to the property.- A consequence of no inspections was that 8-10 people were living in the property suitable for 4 max. My lawyer and Sequence (Barnard Marcus's parent company) confirmed this. As well, a partition was put into one of the bedrooms without permission, which had to be removed. Barnard Marucs refused to refund the cost.- There is no evidence that Barnard Marcus undertook any checks at all to see if an HMO license was required for the property.- Had Barnard Marcus been on top of the situation, when the tenant (it was a company let) stopped paying the rent, it would have been easier to manage and less costly.I have other issues with Barnard Marcus regarding their work practices, but I'll spare you...I made a complaint to The Property Ombudsman (TPO), which weirdly replied that the above poor practice/bad governance was not a problem because there was no emergency or disaster. The derisory compensation recommended by the TPO was, by some strange quirk of fate, exactly the same as what Barnard Marcus had offered - to me, a clear example of the TPO serving its paymasters. I declined the compensation. The culture of the Barnard Marcus Tooting office is rotten - it should be put out of its misery. But the same can be said of the entire Wandsworth network if it allows this sort of service to persist. It's just a brand within the Sequence group, but it deserves to be out of business. It's a disgrace.Happy to provide more detail.

Awful service

Just helped my girlfriend move into a flat in London today, flat was full of the old tenants property. It was supposed to be cleared and cleaned but was filthy and they hadn't even bothered to get rid of the crockery / food / bedding etc. Flat was in way worse condition than promised, curtain rails sellotaped together and loads of stains/ v unclean. We were given the wrong keys and had to wait over an hour after we finally arrived at the property to get new ones. On top of that the boiler didn't work. We were dealing with Monika from the Putney branch, and were told none of this was a priority or an emergency and we had to wait 48 hours until they would it would be acknowledged by a manager. Awful service and really disgusted by what we've been provided with on move in.

Excellent Service

Highly professional and very determined to do everything possible to sell my property. I had 5 agents and had read through some of the reviews and decided to call them as my friend had a very good experience. Well I can say that is that I was very impressed with the process from start to finish. Don't believe everything you read these guys in Peckham were simply brilliant. Thank you for making my sale as seamless as you did. Well BM Peckham

I can't rate highly enough!

I can't rate Jamie and the team highly enough. They have been honest, helpful, professional and most of all did what they promised and sold my property for very near asking price. And within a week of going to market. My circumstances unfortunately changed and I had to pull out of the sale. I felt terrible about this but Jamie's reaction was very professional and understanding. I would definitely use them again in the future and would definitely recommend. 👍👍👍

Terrible service

Terrible service. Booked a viewing and was left waiting for 45 mins at reception. After many phonecalls to lettings- which rang out, I called sales who got in touch with Nick from Wellington who was the person I booked wifh. Then was told they forgot the viewing. The concierge showed us around the flat (reluctantly after much persuasion) and it had been left in a terrible state. Poo in the toilet, thick grease all over oven. It was also not even the same flat as in the photographs so our time was totally wasted.

very bad and unethical estate agent

If I can get a zero start, I will raise them. What I can say that is a very bad and unethical estate agent. As a customer to buy an auction, they advertised the property on behalf of their client 365 Asset Management was freehold but it turned out it is a very long leasehold. I still got a paper what they advitersed on their website. As a result, I have to pay rent and service charges and many problems surrounding this lease, causing me exceptional circumstances.I complaint to the Property Ombudsman and at least my matter and concerns have heard. Stay away this agent at all costs and do not go to their auction because they are a real cheating agent.

SOUTH CROYDON BRANCH - ELLIOT PURCELL

We sold our house in Dec 2020 finally and are very very happy in our new house. Our house was under off 5 times so it was a long exhausting process due to the changing situation for potential buyers with furlough etc but Elliot Purcell was awesome, very committed to helping us and getting the job done, even negotiated for us and guided us on the house we bought. He guided us through a number of tricky situations, was always thinking of plan B and cut through the Bull S___ so we always had very frank but respectful discussions which is the way this process needs to be. If you are assigned Elliot Purcell you will be good hands - just listen to what he has to say, he knows what he is doing!

No idea whatsoever

I used the letting service in Clapham for seven years. I bitterly regret not changing in the first year. 1) The property management section was useless. There was no relationship with plumbers/electricians/other contractors. Only one quote was ever given unless I objected. If the same job had to be redone a few months later the same contractor would be used with no question of querying the quality of the first job. The property manager changed regularly - I communicated with 11 in the course of 7 years. Three months after they took over the flat they recommended replacing a 'broken' blind (it had got stuck) and changing two of the mattresses. The woman I spoke to had no idea that the flat was a new build with new furniture and fittings or even what condition it was in. 'Replace it' was always the answer. We had several leaks in the flat but no one ever telephoned or texted - an email would be sent with the message, 'How would you like us to proceed?' Urgency was an alien concept. When we finally took over the flat it was a mess, with several outstanding jobs to be done including the repair of the balcony doors, which had been an issue for over two years. It was sorted in two weeks. If there was a problem over a bank holiday weekend or Christmas there was never anyone to deal with it. Finally, the agency was unable to do an effective handover of the utilities when the tenants moved out. There were no meter readings and it took repeated emails to find out the names of the suppliers. They were uninterested in ensuring I got all four sets of keys back from the tenants. I gave up chasing them and changed the locks.2) The actual letting service was efficient in that we rarely had more than a few days between tenants but the information was dire. We were never advised what costs would be incurred. We had to fight for a rebate where we had been charged wrongly. Letting conversations hinged round how quickly they could do a deal which often meant they advised a reduction in rent which we didn't always agree with. We ended up securing less rent than other landlords in the same block who also had no problem with voids. One woman in the lettings office said she recommended a low rent because then the flat would be let before Christmas which was good for us and she would get a bonus.I've let a house and a flat with other companies and these are the worst agents I have ever encountered.

Evan Dyer went above and beyond what I could reasonably expected

I cannot praise Evan Dyer, and the team at the Feltham Office, highly enough. As executor of my cousin's estate I contracted Barnard Marcus to handle the sale of his house. The property was on the market within days, there was a large number of viewings and several realistic offers were made very quickly.

We were very happy with the service we received from Marcus estate Agents. Victor was very amiable and friendly, and ready to take the necessary steps to make the letting process go as smoothly and swiftly as possible. Andreja, although a hard ball, was very helpful in communicating with the landlords and getting back to us promptly.

Worst renting experience

I had the worst renting experience in London with this agency. They asked us to move out of the property without providing the required two months’ notice. When we requested the notice, the branch manager Andreja refused. He also showed up at the property in an unfriendly and unprofessional manner. The property management team is also lack of communication.
