Easily the worst estate agents I’ve ever dealt with. Moved into a house with a lot wrong and we were told a maintenance worker would visit to fix everything. We lived at the property for close to a year and never had anybody out to fix anything despite us chasing this up. After moving out, it’s taken us over a year to get our deposit back because of such poor communication from Whitegates. Speaking to anyone here is like trying to get blood from a stone. Avoid.

Very hard to get hold of, you send them an email, they either ignore it or it takes nearly a month before they reply, especially with the contents that are in the email, for example if I'm writing to them to sort out repairs for instance they are definitely going to ignore you, they don't update you on anything, they have been told to contact myself instead of my father whos busy all the time, they have ignored that and carry on bothering my father, we have recently arranged for repairs to be sorted, they missed out a few repairs or plan on doing a quick 'cover up' I have been in my property since oct 2021 and it has been awful having whitegates manage this property, I havent been the only tenant in this property to complain. Tracy is very excellent though 👏 👌

I have used Whitegates for several years, I recently approached them looking for some professional advice regarding a rented property i own, Chan the owner along with his colleague Liam immediately offered to help me and came along to a visit to carry out an inspection on the property. under testing circumstances they remained professional and calm throughout the visit and have gone over and above what would be expected. I have always found them to be professional and very reliable. Would highly recommend.

Very poor repairs department. Lovely property but rubbish left in garden, old fridge freezer,, contractor waste in bins so I can't get them emptied. Doors hanging off and not being able to shut them. Boiler not working and currently sat three days without any hot water/heating. The repairs lead lies and lies saying I've been called but definitely not had any calls. Rang was told the contractor was coming, but hasn't. Only decent person is Megan who is helpful and understanding. I definitely have had no calls from contractors or the lying repairs guy. Very very disappointed in the service so far

I've had numerous issues with Whitegates estate agents, including excessive fees, unprofessional conduct, and a lack of transparency. While landlords and property buyers seem to receive excellent treatment, tenants are met with a completely different standard of service. According to Citizens Advice, Whitegates has the highest number of complaints compared to other estate agents, which further highlights the challenges tenants face. I'm currently in the process of thinking of reporting them to the redress scheme and know of others doing the same. Tenants should be extremely cautious. Anticipating Whitegates' usual response, an elaborate attempt to justify themselves and twist the situation to sound blameless. Save your breath, Whitegates, tenants can see right through the excuses. Tenants, be aware of these tactics!"

I looked at various estate agents for a tenant-find service and considering this Whitegates were the best value. In particular they conduct their own credit checks in-house which is better than other that subcontract the checks so any failed checks are added to the cost. The other main factor is that the inventory report is included which many others charge extra. The Agent on gaining access to the property filmed a first walk through which gave me a good record of the condition inside. Note that I do not live nearby. Chan who initially dealt with me was available for questions out of hours meaning I was able to contact him at weekends and sometimes evenings. We used Whatsapp. Chan set a realistic rent and other staff completed the overall process. I have been very happy with Whitegates and would recommend.PositiveValue

Right, listen up! If you're even thinking about using Whitegates letting agents in Huddersfield, do yourself a massive favour and RUN. Don't walk, run in the opposite direction! These people are beyond a joke. Rude? Absolutely. Unprofessional? You bet. And the biggest time wasters I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Honestly, I'm kicking myself for not seeing the reviews before I even bothered picking up the phone. I was looking to let a property, something you'd think a letting agent would be interested in, wouldn't you? Apparently not these clowns. I chased them and chased them, and after what felt like an eternity of silence and dodging, they finally got back to me with a flat-out "no." No explanation, no courtesy, just a blunt, dismissive "no." Are you serious?! What kind of way is that to run a business? They wasted my precious time, got my hopes up for nothing, and couldn't even be bothered to give a reason. It's beyond infuriating. Take my advice, and the advice of what I should have read in the first place, steer clear of Whitegates in Huddersfield. They are a complete and utter waste of time and energy. You'll find better service and more respect from a brick wall. Seriously, avoid them like the plague!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that the rental application process can be stressful, and we truly appreciate your interest a property. Please know that we carefully review all applications but ultimately it is the Landlords decision in terms of how they decide to proceed and we can never provide an answer until a Landlord makes a decision and unfortunately, we can only move forward on the landlords say so. We do however successfully let over 40 properties a month. We wish you all the best in finding the perfect home and appreciate your understanding.

Appalling company to deal with. Always unprofessional, rude and constantly in denial or gaslighting tenants. There were valid issues with the property which were raised and basically we were told we were lying and they would take no responsibility for any of them... Eg unclean cooker, boiler which is STILL not working properly and has to be refilled pressure almost daily since my sister moved in over 2 weeks ago. Just so stressful having to deal with them. I've never know such incompetence ... Every single person we have dealt with has been tht exact same. To be treated so rudely and appallingly is a disgrace.... Clearly untrained in customer service and horrendous client facing skills. Queue the Whitegates person who tells us it's all our fault..... And takes no responsibility..!!!

Extremely rude staff leaving attitude driven voicemail on my phone.

I recieved a voicemail and email from a very snotty tracy nelson with attitude that is udnermining and disrespectful insinuating I had not paid my rent. In over 5 years I have never missed a single rent payment. I also did not miss this one. It was paid on a friday, incompetence and rude attitude. Persisted with and 'i will now be sending the landlord a email saying you havnt paid your rent', i hate attitude from people who clearly have 'I am better than you' personality traits.

Poor overall experience trying to sell my property with Whitegates over the course of 6 months. Started off well when initially instructing to sell, but once passed over to another colleague in the sales team everything went downhill. Inadequate communication, various attempts to call the person handling my property who never called back the same day resulting in me chasing, some viewings didn’t go through as the person conducting viewings “couldn’t unlock the door”, rejected a potential offer without consulting me first as it was below asking price... just a complete waste of time. Happily paid a £250 fee to be able to go with a much more proactive, professional, and friendly estate agent, who have garnered more interest and offers than Whitegates in just 3 days, with speedy and effective communication via phone and email. Wish I never signed with Whitegates!

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are genuinely sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the service you received, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns. In regards to the offer below the asking price, we want to clarify that the buyer ultimately decided to withdraw their offer the very next day after it was submitted. They informed us that they had chosen to pursue a different property. In addition, they did not provide the necessary proof of funds, which, in line with our policy, meant they were not financially verified. We always ensure that all potential buyers are financially checked before we proceed with any offers, as this is a key part of our process to ensure the best possible outcome for our clients. We were also informed that you planned to carry out some renovations on the property, which led to the decision to withdraw it from the market temporarily. However, we were surprised to later find out that you had decided to proceed with another estate agent instead, especially as we had not had a prior discussion indicating that you were considering leaving us. We had been under the impression that you would potentially return to market with us once the renovations were complete. As outlined in our terms and conditions, we do apply a withdrawal fee in these cases, as we had dedicated considerable time, resources, and effort to managing the sale of your property. We understand that situations can change, but we always aim to act in the best interest of our clients, and we were prepared to continue supporting you through the process, whether or not the property was to be renovated. We fully understand how frustrating this situation has been, and we truly regret that the experience didn’t meet your expectations. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to learning from it to improve our processes. We will be reviewing our communication procedures internally to ensure we provide better and more consistent service in the future. If you would like to discuss this further or if there is anything else we can do to address your concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We truly value your business and hope we might have the opportunity to work with you again in the future.

Avoid this company they kept my £200 holding fee because of numerous glitches when myself and my guarantor were trying to upload documents to there bogus system! A whole month me and my disabled son were sat with our house packed up while these two idiots couldn't even do there jobs properly I felt like this was all diliberate to keep my fee funny how the whitegates sign has been taken from the friendly avenue house I hope the landlord went with a more reputable agency because you ARE A JOKE ! Very professional team, previous letting agency was very bad in terms of communication and maintaining their side of tenancy agreement. Me and my partner had a very positive experience from the very start to end. Out of all lettings agencies I went thru for all the years I have been renting in UK I would highly recommend Whitegates. I hope it wasn’t just the start of our tenancy that’s as smooth which has been the case in the past with other agencies.

We moved into one of their properties 5 years ago. It was a 2-bed house at £725 per month. We liked the area and needed the space, so we took it. We never met the landlord at the start and only later realised the property belonged to the owner of Whitegates.

We recently went to the Huddersfield office and didn't expect this experience. I along with my friend went there to let a house as we are students. We stood in the front area hoping someone would come but no one did as we saw many of them were free. We went near the desk and literally saw them ignoring us. Don't know the reason why. But had the worst experience and we soon came out of there.

My time at 297 Leeds road, absolute JOKE!

So I rented 297 Leeds road for 4 n half years, in my time living there, I had rodent issues, lack of help from Whitegates, a broken boiler for 2 weeks during winter which I had asked to be fixed the day it went off, mould in the bathroom because they couldn’t be bothered to fix a broken window, so they just shuved a fan in there, a roof leak in the main bedroom, my 8 year old autistic daughter got poorly and sick down to rats and mice running round the entirety of the house, the rent got put up but they never once did a thing in that house, I lived with a bathroom falling apart, leaks coming from everywhere, a kitchen that was genuinely just a home to mice, the door in the kitchen leading to the back garden was literally falling off, basically they’ve just popped a shoddy kitchen extension on and it’s shocking because I moved out roughly 6 months ago, they tried to… get this right… they tried to bill me 1,500 for clean up, blaming the mould on me, said I’d left rubbish in the front garden which was just a flat out lie and I left nothing in that house so I told em to get lost.

Absolutely appalling to tenants. They make promises but never follow through. Repairs? HAH! Forget about them. We told them about a leak before we moved in. It's still leaking after we moved out 6 years later. It's even affecting the neighbour's house. Our landlord defaulted on his mortgage and we had bailiffs coming to our door looking for him, but when we told Whitegates, they said the landlord had told them it was fine so it must be fine. 6 years of lies from the landlord and still they believed his every word, but us? We were left in a damp, mouldy, draughty house and were eventually evicted BY THE COURTS when the landlord didn't pay his mortgage...again. Even after 6 years of rent increases and empty promises of repairs. The support from Whitegates during the eviction? None-existent. They're currently trying to claim that we owe them rent for the period after we left and they want to keep our deposit even after 6 years of being ignored and eventually being evicted by the court. We'll gladly go to court for it AGAIN. Nothing but useless thieving crooks. ***EDIT*** The DPS found that their claims were unfounded and awarded us our full deposit back. Never back down. Don't give these thieves one inch because they'll take a mile.

Absolutely will not go with these again when looking for a property to rent, went to view a property in Huddersfield bare in mind I am no where close to Huddersfield spent over £13 in taxi there only to be told that the viewing isn’t at 11am but if I want to stick around till 12:45 that is what time the viewing will be there is no cafe or restaurant anywhere close to the property so would have to wait around in the freezing cold for an hour and 45 mins bare In mind was there 15 prior to the viewing time because I don’t like to be late or make other people wait around for me and to top it all off the property was in worse condition than what it looked like on the website the windows looked like they had mould on them and from what I could see through the windows there was trash and previous tenants items in the living room area. Absolutely would not recommend and wouldn’t waste my time with them again worst first property owner experience ever!!!!

Review drinking game: drink whenever 'DPS' or 'dealt with' is mentioned! Initially, I was shown the wrong flat. It was only after I mentioned several times that it looked nothing like the pictures (eg. the one I was meant to be viewing had a balcony - this didn't) , and asked if they were sure they were showing me the right property that the realised they were meant to be showing the one next door. And said they couldn't guarantee being able to get be a viewing as it hadn't been arranged. Luckily the tenant was in and more than happy for me to look around. The duration of my rental was fine as I didn't have any dealings with Whitegates. Nearer the end of my stay the property was on the market and I was asked to conduct viewings for Whitegates as they weren't able to do Saturday viewings. I happily showed a couple around the flat, only to hear of the terrible trouble they had had with Whitegates. They had come down from Scotland to view properties and had been trying for a week to get hold of them but none of their calls or emails had been answered. It was only by luck that they managed to get through to them while driving down, hence the short notice (2-3 hours) of the viewing. After this, I decided that I didn't want to do any more viewings. When it came to moving out, I gave my Landlord a months’ notice; he came and inspected the property on 1st May, said he was happy with it and took the keys to drop back into Whitegates on the 4th. I called on 15th May to find out about the return of my deposit. I was told it was being dealt with and if I hadn't received it it was because I hadn't released the bond online. As a first-time renter I wasn't aware this was what I had to do - nobody had told me! So, I asked for a call back to confirm that they had everything they needed from me and then 'released the bond'. This did nothing as the bond had not been authorised by them. I never received a call back, so I called on 22nd to ask about the bond. It was being dealt with, but DPS had an issue which were preventing them from releasing it. I asked for a call back to confirm that they had everything that they needed from me for this bond. I also tweeted DPS who confirmed that even there were no issues that would prevent a bond from being returned. 23rd - no call from Whitegates. I called again and was told there was still an issue with DPS, then I said that I had spoken to DPS and there wasn't. I was told that there was a data issue and DPS would not tell me this as it was only known between letting agents and the DPS. Again, the issue was being dealt with and somebody would call be back; I rang DPS to see if their story had changed. It hadn’t. They explained there were no problems and they provided me with a number that Whitegates could call to release the bond over the phone. Whitegates called back; I was told the DPS website had an issue, but it was being dealt with. I was also told that their account manager had said they couldn't release bonds with DPS over the phone and that DPS shouldn't be telling tenants things that lettings agents can't do. Oh, and there is a £50 fee for oven cleaning. I confirmed that my landlord had checked the flat and had confirmed I would receive my full deposit; they said they'd have to look into it. On 30th May my deposit was returned - there was much rejoicing! I received a call on 1st June asking why I hadn't signed my tenancy agreement. The lady on the end of the phone admitted she had been given a paperwork to chase and didn't know why I was being called if I had already left. She had to check if this was true! All in all, Whitegates don't even deserve 1 star. Emily Brown is lovely, Emily Baxter, Sharon and Caroline all spoke to me in a fed up, disinterested tone and weren't helpful during the bond-saga. I was made to feel like I was in the wrong for wanting my money back and that I was pestering them. On a final note...that £50 cooker cleaning fee? It was meant to be for the flat they incorrectly showed me in the first place!

Good Morning Lara Pollard - Jones, As we do often market many apartments at that development which are very similar it can become confusing for applicants when calling the office to book a viewing in. It can also be difficult to arrange access with tenants or try to get hold of them during office hours. However, I can understand this must have been frustrating. In regards the DPS they have currently migrated over to a new website, when this was migrating, some processed information wasn't transferred over, we have made a separate complaint directly to our account manager of the DPS and expressed our concerns that you weren’t advised of this issue directly by them when you called. I can see that all this was explained by the staff in the office from our phone calls, unfortunately this was an issue out of our control with it being solely with the DPS themselves. I can see that £50.00 for an oven clean was mentioned as this was some information which had been sent over and allocated incorrectly, again this was migration issue which are out of our control, but I can reassure you that this deduction wasn't for the property you incorrectly viewed. Once pressure was put on by our lettings manager to the DPS they resolved the issues and the deposit was released to yourself, However I do agree this delay caused by the migration was highly inconvenient and frustrating and your concerns have been forwarded. I can see you received a phone call from our office regarding your renewal paperwork, this should have been removed from our chase ups and I apologise you was contacted. I agree that this should have checked before the call was made. I apologise you feel certain members of staff came across dis-interested regarding the bond situation, all staff members did work extremely hard to try and resolve this for you and I can assure you they weren’t disinterested . If you wish to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to email us at Huddersfieldlettings@whitegates.co.uk or call the office on 01484452314

The team were first class when I enquired in branch to look for a rental property when I needed one urgently. Chan and Emily showed me a number of properties that met my needs. Oliver showed me around at the viewings and was friendly and professional, with no hard sell like some agents who just want to sign you up. I did take on a tenancy in Lindley with whitegates. Thanks again to Sharon for sorting out the checks and arranging the gas and electric readings so there was no problem with the provider.
