Too many errors to give 5* unfortunately.

Although previous experiences using Ocean have been good, unfortunately our recent purchase has been a lengthy process with a number of errors and several requests for clarification. The legal team were very helpful when communicating by telephone but we found the email system frustrating with many emails saying “out of the office until…..”. There were several members of the team dealing with our purchase which meant the whole process felt rather “messy”.

I ended up making an offer on one of the properties, which has been accepted, and am now proceeding forward with the purchase! First Time Buyers

My partner and I are first time buyers, actually set to complete at the end of the week! Buying a house is super stressful, and our journey was made a little more complicated than most by surveyors but we’re now finally at the finish line. Ocean estate agents in Shirehampton have been absolutely incredible. They communicate well with each other, always answer the phone and are happy to help! I’d like to make a special mention and give my biggest thanks to Sadie, our move manager. Without her kindness, support and willingness to help I don’t think I would have been able to complete the purchase. She has been an absolute star and I genuinely cannot sing her praises enough! Calls ignored

Initial contact with Ocean is great, pre having a sale agreed, they answer the phone quickly and seem really on it. However, it’s a whole different story whilst the sales transaction is going through … they have all your numbers on their system and then just refuse to answer the phone to you. They do not consider it their responsibility to ensure your purchase goes though promptly, and it is their policy to not discuss a move date at all until all solicitors have completed the paperwork. This seems sensible, but results in them taking no ownership at all over how long it takes for your sale to go through. Instead, when you do finally get through to them, you get platitudes about managing your mental health, rather than updates of how you sale is proceeding. My 1 star review relates to the fact that I have now both bought and sold through Ocean, and both transaction took 6 months despite their straightforward nature (chain free or with 1 link in the chain). They will almost certainly reply to this saying that time scale is ‘normal’ or my case was ‘complex’. I would assert that yes, I can now believe 6 months plus is normal for a sale via ocean (though I have seen 12-16 weeks quoted as normal elsewhere) and would struggle to see how my transactions could have been any less complex! Believe what you will, just felt it was best to share my experience. Up to you if 6 months and upwards feels right for you :-)Ocean also tried to trap me into using their Conveyancing Solicitors by simply ‘agreeing to on my behalf’, I can’t imagine that service is very good either if that’s the way that business is created.

Sam was absolutely exceptional

Sam was absolutely exceptional. As FTBs we struggled to know what we really wanted in a house and often changed our minds but Sam was patient and helpful throughout. We genuinely wouldn't have found the perfect house for us, if it wasn't for his down to earth nature, or his absolute professionalism. Unethical practice

Move Manager advised me of completion date and to change my booking of my preferred removal company.Even though I questioned the feasibility of this - she insisted that all other people on the chain could make this new date. I changed the date only to be told (very soon after) that it wasn’t feasible and we needed to revert to the original date. My preferred removal company then could not move me as someone else had requested the date. I was forced to use a removal company that I never would have chosen and at a considerably higher cost. The experience on the completion date was not pleasant and I hold Ocean accountable for the stress and illness this resulted in for me. I have raised this as a concern but the manner in which it was dealt with was poor.

Excellent service from Claire

The service we received from ocean estate agent -Portishead conveyance was nothing short of outstanding this was mainly attributable to Claire trainee conveyancer - she kept us informed returned our calls promptly and she also responded to our emails promptly. Claire has excellent interpersonal skills, she always came down to see us when we called into the estate agent unannounced. When things became difficult she remained calm and reassuring. Efficient and professional(Bristol)

From making the initial contact with Iona to taking it through to completion with Andrew , as well as a team of others in between , the whole process was handled with efficiency and professionalism . We were naturally apprehensive about having to conduct the sale from a distance (NZ) via emails but ultimately those anxieties were unfounded as we had frequent email updates and even the odd phone call to reassure ourselves things are on track.Big thank you to Iona for setting up the marketing and getting us a firm offer within weeks of initial contact and Andrew for the final push that got us over the line. Brilliant agents and associated services

Ocean were brilliant from start to finish - we used their associated law firm to handle our purchase as well as dealing with them as estate agents and they made the whole process very straightforward. All of the staff we dealt with friendly, efficent and knowledgable, and we also consulted their mortgage advisor who provided some useful advice. I'd dealt previously with Ocean while we were looking for a rental property in the city and found them to be one of the most helpful agents I spoke to - unlike some other rental agents in the city there was no pressure to 'bid' on properties and they were super-helpful in trying to find somewhere right for us. Highly recommend Ocean all round - excellent property services and advice!

Great service from a great team

My purchase through the Westbury on Trym office could not have been simpler. All were very knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble! Steve was genuinely happy to spend time discussing certain aspects of the purchase with me. I viewed a few properties mostly with Micheal and he was very accommodating and patient. Generally a very good service

Generally a very good service. Victoria and her team at Portishead have been really helpful throughout the buying process and have been supportive following a number of properties falling through. The only constructive comment I would make is that twice I had to request a mortgage re-application for Coventry Building Society following release of better interest rates. I had hoped rates would have been monitored by Ocean to ensure I was getting the best deal at the time. Notwithstanding this, I am happy with the services provided.
