Shocking Practice

We had videos of a property and an offer accepted, put down the holding deposit as per requirements. Only to be told, the price had changed (by around 200pcm) and we didn’t have the flat.Incredibly poor service, should not have taken a deposit if this was the case. Then it took them over a week to return the greater than £400 deposit. Cowboy-esc structure to the company in this regard. Would avoid if you can.

A really fabulous renting experience!

This is the second time that I have rented my flat through Benham and Reeves. They are really excellent. Yvette even came and helped me move furniture into my car (way beyond the call of duty!) and organised painting etc, and I now have great tenants for the next two years. We were mid-conveyancing on a property through another Estate Agent as FTB’s when it was sold without warning by Benham & Reeves to other buyers. We lost our new home, our legal fees, our survey costs, mortgage offer, and low interest rate. We even started looking at furniture! Benham & Reeves not only condones “gazumping,” but clearly encourages it. What a shame that such a long standing institution has such unethical practices and little integrity. Response: Nowhere did I say I registered with you and nowhere did I say you were unlawful. I said gazumping, which you welcome, is unethical. Any house buyer in the country would agree. Your practices and actions as a company directly affected me in my house purchase, so I left a review - to call me “unethical” for writing it is ludicrous. Buyers should be made aware of which estate agents have no problem encouraging gazumping so far into conveyancing. If you find this “perplexing,” that’s even more concerning. My conveyancer was utterly appalled by you and your sellers (who were a faceless property investment firm).

Hi SC, we are perplexed seeing this since you never registered with us to buy a property in Highgate. We sold the property to someone who did register with us and it was a fully legitimate and lawful sale. Sellers decide who they want to sell to and at what price they wish to sell for. It's a highly competitive market. We will be reporting this to Google for removal as you should not be leaving a review for a company you have not had any dealings with and we regard this as unethical. - Emily, B&R

I have lived for 7 years in an apartment that I rented through this agency. it represented the interests of the landlord. I had no problems: the contract was concluded quickly, all issues were resolved easily.They replaced my broken mattress and replaced my non-working washing machine.
