Be careful with this agency…the agents…

Be careful with this agency…the agents are asking for part of deposit to “check your references “and they will tell you that you don’t pass and you will lose the money .They don’t provide you with information about the rejection which I find normal to have because you pay for them.Agent name that I deal is Eliot…very kind but also very sharp when you ask about explanations If they do like that with 10 people per week this deposit are money in the pocket If anyone have the same experience don’t hesitate to share it.This is Hemel Hampstead branch

Due to a sudden need to move on account of work I originally tried selling my property via Brown and Merry, who made the process simple given how little time I had available to monitor it myself. Although sadly the sale failed from outside circumstances the team were instead able to help me immediately pivot to letting the property out despite my lack of knowledge on the issue. The team have been helpful and supportive with every member i've spoken with being willing to walk a newcomer to the practice through all the processes involved, as well as going the extra mile to keep everything as simple and smooth as possible.

Overvalued and little contact

Over valued and little contact.So much contact to get us to sell with them, as soon as we listed the house with them I received loads of marketing calls trying to get us to upgrade the marketing package. They encouraged us often to drop the price they valued it at. I really believe they give you a great listing price but then always encourage clients to reduce. If you look on rightmove you’ll see lots of there listings reduced. Sarah branch manger French promised calls back but never did. Alex was the only person in branch that was helpful. I also went with the solicited they recommended and they were also awful, slow and never communicated with us.

Unfortunately not a great experience, up to place our property on the market they seemed like the best choice but after agreeing and getting signed up with them we have had hardly any contact with anyone apart from once to have the only viewing in the near 3 month period. After near to 3 months we have had 0 response to any emails that we have sent and 0 call backs to any phone calls made into the office and are unfortunately stuck with them until the agree time is allotted in which we definitely will be moving away from them. I would definitely rethink using Brown & Merry to sell a property. As keen as they seem at the sign up unfortunately the follow up of actually selling a property they loose all interest and just end up wasting your time.

Not all heroes wear capes…! Jake went out of his way in helping sort out the heating of our property, even though he works in the sales team as there was no one in the letting team that was available. He took upon himself and went the extra mile for us. Our thermostat batteries were out of order and he went to Tesco’s to purchase batteries and made sure that we have a working heating system - Really appreciate your help Jake! I was really Pleased with how i was treated and assisted by Chloe and the team at Brown&Merry Hemel Hempstead, with how the market is at the minute i was giving up hope in finding a property - when finding one at brown & merry, Chloe was super efficient and quick with moving the process along and in the space of a week it was all confirmed and i was no longer stressed - i felt in very safe hands with Chloe and the team and was so Happy to feel like i could ask any sort of question at any time and be helped and querys awnsered straight away! i couldnt reccomend Brown&Merry more and im so happy in my new flat. I rented from Brown and Merry for one year and the company they use to manage their lettings (Sequence) is shocking. The check in to the apartment missed huge levels of dirt and grime. It also missed huge holes in the wall that had been filled but left rough. Large scuff marks weren’t mentioned, no meter readings at all and left property that I was not expecting to look after. I raised these concerns, (with pictures) at the time to Brown and Merry but was fobbed off with “the landlord is aware” I reported a broken light that Sequence didn’t bother to repair. I was left with an astronomical unpaid electricity bill, as well as bailiffs looking for the landlord. Neither Brown and Merry or Sequence were interested and told me to contact each other. When it came to leaving I left the flat in a far better state than I received it but the check out was completely different. It was measured on an entirely different standard. I emailed both immediately with the disparity but again, no comment or any acknowledgment of a problem. They are refusing to hand back my deposit and refusing to tell me if there is any dispute. I have complained and been fobbed off and ignored so far. I have put an official complaint into the deposit protection scheme. In short, both are unprofessional and have left me in the lurch. In 20 years of renting, I have never had such issues. Neither seems to care one bit and I’m preparing for small claims court. Avoid like the plague!

Jamie was great when we met him to take over the sale of our home. We found communication along the way a little disappointing but team pulled together as the sale progressed and Jake was great!! Really helpful and kept us updated which helped keep the stress levels down. One thing we will say is that we found the solicitors recommended really difficult and wouldn’t recommend them but we got there in the end!! I have used Brown and Merry for a rental property in Hemel Hempstead for more than 8 years. Stephen and Eliot are a great team. They are very responsive, give impartial advice, find good tenants, provide tenancy contracts and provide a link to the deposit scheme. Highly recommend them as a rental agent. Their sales team are also very good. They thoroughly check the property before adverting, give advice on the best time to market, are proactive with viewings and offer realistic expectations of final sale prices. 5/5 for Brown and Merry!

When we arrived at houses he listened to what we were after and took it on board, he worked with us to find our new home.
