TrustpilotYour issue has been logged but it wont be fixed
My partner and I have rented our property for 5 and half years. When we originally signed the lease it was with FineHolm but they were bought over by DJ Alexander. In the last year we have needed some general repairs as the house is old and there has been minimal to no up keep of the infrastructure from the letting agent or the landlord. The first thing that happened was that our shower broke at the start of the year and we had not way of washing except using the sink in the bathroom or going to a friends for a shower. We gave the letting agents four days to get this fixed before raising it again as we were aware this was not urgent, eventually a plumber came out and fixed the issue but it took a week of us emailing and calling for it to be done. The second thing that we raised was that our house was unbearably cold even when the heating was on. Two different people came out to look at the windows and one said and i quote "whoever installed these windows should be shot" we were advised not to touch one of the windows because the glass could fall out and another one of the windows that was stuck was our emergency exit. From that point it took three months of us calling and emailing to eventually get a response that they were waiting on funds to be transferred from the landlord. We then waited another week with still no response at this point it was snowing outside and we could see our breath when were inside with the heating on. It took my partner calling and us refusing to pay rent before they came and fixed the windows, which has not helped much with the heat and they have not repaired our emergency exit but by this point we were just happy something was getting done. It is now January and we have had an issue with our plumbing since the 1st which has meant we cannot use any water in our bathroom or flush the toilet it has taken us calling 10 times and sending what i would say is a rude but justified email to our property manager to finally get someone to come out today to get this sorted. I have rented properties since i was 19 and i can honestly say i have never dealt with such incompetence from a letting agent in 10 years. they have no urgency in dealing with repairs and do not seem to care about the standard of living for the tenants. I would never recommend this letting agent to anyone.

Quite a smooth end to end experience with them. Rented a property in Edinburgh, and very helpful and positive attitude from conducting viewings, finalising contract, checking references to checking out. The communication was often a bit delayed and required follow up, but very satisfied other than that. Would rate as 4.5/5, and would recommend to anyone looking to rent or buy.

Poor standards of a company , late payments , late statements , staff don’t reply to emails or messages on your online account , hard to get hold off by phone or by email , tell you about repairs needing done to your property 2months after the tenant reported the issue .

He is very good at communicating and also very responsive to all queries and at all times is very professional. TrustpilotAvoid! Especially Students!
Avoid! D.J. Alexander (formerly Stonehouse Lettings) does not care about the tenants in the slightest, other than their money! There’s no 24 hour assistance for heating/lock/security issues, even in an emergency! Anything that needs repairing or replaced takes months and on top of that they will blame and try to charge you for it when you move out. Students especially, they think they can take advantage of your age and relative inexperience. After letting with them once we avoided them like the plague until they unfortunately took over the smaller agency we rented with and we were devastated. We are good respectful tenants and take pride in that and yet we haven’t seen a penny of our deposit and it has been over 6 months since we moved out. I wouldn’t write a review like this unless I really felt I necessary, to stop other students experiencing what we have. Even amongst our circle we aren’t the only ones who have experienced this. I really would avoid using them if it’s possible

We have been with DJ Alexander in Edinburgh for over 10 years and are very pleased with level of service and support provided throughout our time with them, both with securing suitable tenants and dealing with our tenants / maintaining the properties.Always find the team to be professional, with timely action and response. Management fees may seem high but value for money as we don't have to worry about our properties being well managed.
