A chance of tenancy and renovation work

I had a change of tenancy for my flat recently. While the flat was being shown to the prospective tenants by D J Alexander, I undertook organising a lot of renovation work for the flat myself. Brandon Wiseman was quick to find a new tenant for my flat. He also helped me by adjusting the time period for the work to be carried out properly, before the new tenant could come in. I found Brandon extremely helpful and approachable at every step and wish him well in his career.

Great service all round. E-mails were promptly answered and engaging sub contractors to deal with issues arising on selling our flat were seamless. Nothing was a problem and we felt very confident with leaving things to the agent. In particular Sarah McIntyre lead her team very efficiently. Shambles of a company

Shambles of a company, moved in Disruptive neighbours to the flat above us, after multiple complaints they done absolutely nothing about this, police had attended the property and still nothing done. Got to the point we had to seek a different let, essentially being forced out of our home of over 5 years. This turned into another disaster as DJ alexander, on top of forcing us out of our own home, then explained they would not give us a reference unless we paid £30 for this. The reference which we paid for confirmed I was a Tennant a the property and nothing else. £30 wasted. I was then pressured to write a positive review on trust pilot for actually giving the reference! Upon moving, we have then had the usual daylight robbery technique applied where the additional cleaning bill just happens to match the full deposit amount. Mould was discovered Upon exit of the property, I have left this so it could be seen and dealt with however it would appear that they are going to clean the surface but not deal with the underlying issue. Anyone looking to move into the stonefield park area of paisley I would seriously avoid. Dangerous tenants have been moved in, people who have parties regularly over 3 day periods, police regularly called to the area, properties full of damp. This was once a nice area, dj alexander have absolutely ruined the place. If you are looking for a letting agent who will let you down at every turn, please spend your money with dj alexander!

Would not recommend this company in Aberdeen

We have properties in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire ‘managed’ by this company. Whilst I agree that in Aberdeenshire that Iona is fantastic, the same cannot be said for Aberdeen. This review score is for them. Their service has been consistently poor. Their communication is appalling. They do not tell us when the property manager changes (frequently) and we are then left chasing non-existent staff who obviously never reply. How hard is it to train people to introduce themselves when they start and send out general exit emails? We have repeatedly raised this and had assurances of improvement, but it has never happened. It has also had an impact on our ability to adequately maintain our property. We are on the verge of moving our business.

Think of letting in Scotland, thing of DJ Alexander!

If you are looking for a befitting apartment to rent in Scotland, you need to cross mental hurdle of searching on the web for months, psychological trauma of viewing/applying and getting rejections, and financial stress of high cost of renting and making a huge statutory/cautionary deposit. BUT DJ Alexander Letting Agent in Edinburgh is completely opposite. These guys are highly professionals. Their feedback system is robust and timely too. The staff of DJ Alexander in Edinburgh (like Caitlin Butler, Kaiya, Leno, Calumn, etc.) are awesomely dedicated and supportive. Your enquiriesteam is phenomenal. I have been with DJ Alexander since I moved to Edinburgh and my last apartment offer is simply WOW. Keep it up!

Would never rent from them again

I rented a flat from DJ Alexander for almost four years and have had numerous issues along the way - I would highly advise anyone to stay away from this letting agency. Issues have included the check-in process (20+ inaccuracies on the initial inventory), long delays before any response from the maintenance team about ongoing issues like mice and mould and there being a lack of response/follow-up throughout the years (felt like I needed to phone Xavier many many times to get any response), it taking a full year for a shower to be fixed (despite multiple 'inspection visits to check the issue' that I had to stay home from work for), being told by Leno I was in the wrong for paying the amount of final rent that had been agreed, numerous inaccuracies again with the check-out report (like them trying to charge me for leaving the landlord's items in a cupboard) and being charged a three hour cleaning fee as that is the minimum amount even though I had already thoroughly cleaned the flat myself. It has been a horrendous experience where my landlord was allowed to get away with things like not responding or taking their responsibilities in regards to issues serious for over a week on multiple times. Natalie was the only member that I have had some positive experiences with when she fixed issues that others had caused.

An awful letting agency who I never…

An awful letting agency who I never wish to deal with again. Akin to other reviews, our original tenancy agreement was taken out with Tay Letting who were a fantastic organisation to deal with. Unfortunately for us (and for many others), DJ Alexander acquired Tay Letting around two months before our tenancy ended.The property was left in an immaculate condition which was reflected within the check out report. However, there was a charge on the report for a stain on the bedroom carpet. This was quickly refuted by us using the original inventory as evidence that the stain was already present prior to us moving in. There was then a second issue noted on the report saying that the windows did not open and that the landlord would be charged for them. Thankfully we had taken a video of the property just before we had left with all of the windows open.The above issues were quickly quashed by us, however, there was no sense of urgency from DJ Alexander to conclude the matter and release the deposit. Weeks went by with constant emails and phone calls chasing an answer where they were blaming the landlord for not responding. We believed what they were telling us at first although after 4 weeks we lost faith. Eventually, after voicing our dismay, the checkout department manager took control and within a matter of hours managed to get ahold of the landlord and release the deposit.DJ Alexander have recently acquired multiple independent letting agencies and are now struggling to keep up with the increased workload which is now at the detriment of the appalling service they provide.Avoid, if at all possible, although it now looks as though if you want to rent in Scotland you’ll need to deal with DJ Alexander. Worrying times ahead for the Scottish rental market.

Recently my wife went to visit the office of sales at DJ Alexander. We did not understand that this one is not for renting but Leandra helped us with the problem we had. We are not customers for DJAlexander but we believe that our neighbour house was managed by them. It was incorrect but Leandra still helped us to understand how it works for complaining about noise problems and also fly tipping and what the legal position is. She was very kind and she even gave to us her telephone number for help with translation because we don’t feel confident in this way.

The people working with DJ Alexander have been fantastic to deal with. Both Laura Mctaggart and Lee Hardy were a tremendous help with my international move. Everything moved along extremely quickly. They were comprehensive and clear in their explanations. They expeditiously responded to my emails and dealt with any issues that were encountered along the way. Once I arrived to the UK, Oliver Esdaile was waiting for us at the flat to go through everything we needed to know. I’ve been very pleased to work with DJ Alexander and these wonderful employees. First time renting with D.J.Alexander and so far a very positive experience. Elizabeth and Lauren were both amazing. I was moving to Edinburgh from London and had a very tight window of being able to view properties. Elizabeth organised everything for me so that I could maximise my time and also helped me out when other team members either didn’t reply or were less helpful. Lauren facilitated one of my viewings and my move-in and was efficient, friendly, and helpful.

This is a terrible agency

This is a terrible agency. Repairs take forever. had ancient furniture. By the end of the tenancy the flat was left in great condition, even better than the state we got it in, and they had the audacity to cut a huge sum from my deposit regarding stuff out of my control, like cleaning windows externally, knowing Glasgow is a rainy city, and purposely delaying the post move out inspection, resulting in the delay of releasing of the deposit(what’s left) knowing that the flat got rented after my move out. Pathetic. Terrible experience

Oliver was really friendly and was fast knowing I had to rush to work. He called a few minutes in advance before recahing my house as I had to go to work that day and was very understanding when I reached a few minutes late. He checked all the areas in a quick and efficient manners and checked on the progress of my report on the kitchen issue as well. I am a tenant occupying the property for 20 years and have always been satisfied with the agency. Stressful and annoying

As a whole I found my tenancy with DJ Alexander to be frustrating and stressful. I have rented with them since 2019 and moved out at the start of this month,DJs took ages to respond to any maintenance requests leaving us with a water damaged flat for 6 months and only responded when I threatened to withhold rent and organising contractors to attend was worse than herding cats. The only thing that has stopped them from getting 1 star is Amy Vass from the checkouts team. Once we handed in our notice Amy was quick and efficient at answering any and all questions we had and understood the points I raised when I challenged charges being made to me and as a result we were able to come to agreeable terms. I strongly advise the rest of DJs take note of how Amy works and learns from her as it seems she is about the only one who actually cares in that building.As a whole would not recommend people rent from DJs and anyone that is checking out request to deal with Amy as she is fantastic.

Avoid this letting agent at all costs

It’s disappointing that to write this review I have had to give them a star at all!DJ Alexander have to be the worst letting agency in Scotland and their checkout team in particular, the most unprofessional and least competent by a country mile.Mine has been a disgraceful and genuinely shocking end of tenancy experience. I am (was) a landlord of a single properly. It has just been vacated and has been left in an appalling state by the tenants. Absolutely filthy with an appallingly neglected, overgrown & rubbish strewn private garden area, and a whole spectrum of damage to the interior fabric of the flat, including through unapproved installations by the tenant (some of which they’ve just left in place presumably to try and disguise the damage to plasterwork and tiling if removed).I can only assume that DJ Alexander’s property inspector didn’t actually attend the flat in person for the check out inspection and / or paid zero heed to the terms of the PRA and the schedule of condition in so doing. This team is quite genuinely dangerously incompetent, such is the level of complete oblivion with which they have approached their obligations at tenancy end.If you are a landlord be aware that this letting agency does nothing to actually earn their fees - they are unconcerned with ensuring that a tenant abides by the PRA terms and as for upholding the value in, and purpose of, forking out for a record of condition at tenancy outset - forget it. I did., but DJ Alexander haven’t actually bothered to measure the checkout condition of my fiat against it. As can be said about every aspect of my relationship with this shower, every penny paid to them has been money for absolutely nothing.Oh, and they’ll pass you all round the houses too when you phone, and refuse to give you access to your own keys too. Heaven forbid they should actually offer meaningful service.I cannot stress this enough - avoid, avoid, avoid this letting agent at all costs. Unhelpful, unprofessional and incompetent, they are nothing but a deeply unpleasant stain on the Scottish property sector.
