Gilson Gray have handled a number of legal matters for me over the last 3-4 years. I have always found them to be very friendly and efficient in the way they conduct their business

Avoid if you would like a fast turn around

If you would like fast turn around for house completion avoid Gilson Gray and find a smaller more local firm. This company operates nation wide for many estate agents and takes on too many clients. We were first time buyers purchasing an empty house (no chain) and the whole process took nearly 6 months. It was extremely difficult to get in contact with our solicitor and her team, and every time we did get in contact they said they could only work for clients in date order (so we were at the bottom of their list basically). We were recommended to go with Gilson Gray from our estate agents purely because of the commission they would get from it. Avoid this and do more research into finding a better firm.

Firstly I am 49, a business man and this is the first review I have ever left. Please be very cautious when considering this firm, I was over charged/ripped off for a very simple Co. name change on a document previously produced by GG to the tune of over £2k , when queried got zero response or even an attempt at justifying the hours charged. Grudgingly paid the bill to be invoiced three weeks later for interest of £52 and a late payment charge of £720.over the course I replied to every email within hours reassuring I would pay but needed an explanation which was ignored constantly, the only attempted being made finally by credit control months later but still no justification of how it takes over 10 hours to change one name on a document the size of one A4 sheet of paper. I have had a blue chip credit status all my life, I would sincerely stay away from this company. there service and advice is mediocre to slow with the fee scale of a top end practice.

We are waiting for a date to move. Everyone is ready. But as usual, no response from Thomas, emails never answered, leave messages for him, never ring back. Terrible.Certain solicitors probably very good, but our experience very bad.

Do Not Use For Leasehold Sales!

Hugely underwhelming service from Gilson-Grey. 8½ months to complete a private, chain-free sale.

Unprecedented levels of incompetence

Gilson Gray represented the buyers on the recent sale of my property which lasted for 11 months from accepting an offer to completion thanks to the incompetence of Rhona Stuart. Rhona took a month to progress any task, no matter how simple, and her providing incorrect advice to the buyers led to an additional 4 month delay halfway through the process. I almost pulled out of the sale, providing an ultimatum that she needed to stop stalling and admit fault for the poorly researched advice she provided her clients with. Unfortunately she was incapable of doing either of these things and the sale only proceeded due to a truck load of stress-fuelled determination from myself and the buyers.I would also like to flag that exchange was set to take place with completion the following day which made me nervous considering how useless Gilson Gray had been up to that point. However on the day of exchange Gilson Gray suddenly pushed the exchange to the same day of completion which caused problems for my purchase. On the day of exchange and completion Gilson Gray then went AWOL from 9.30am until 1pm and neither my solicitor nor the buyers could contact them despite multiple unanswered calls. By some miracle it did complete (albeit after 2pm) but I would urge anyone considering instructing Gilson Gray to find an alternative conveyancer and save yourself some stress!

Shoddy conveyancing that has led to…

Shoddy conveyancing that has led to loss of money. Glenn Gilson their executive despite his statement on the website about putting customer wellbeing first has not responded to any of my emails or offered support as a result of his teams errors costing me money loss and leaving me feeling suicidal. Make no mistake people, this is a typical firm of lawyers only caring about the Notton line and they have zero interest in helping their clients. Avoid as lacking in efficiency, empathy and ability to own up mistakes made and offer resolution. An inhumane and unethical company.

Excellent service

Gilson Gray Glasgow branch helped me with the purchase of a house recently and I cannot recommend them enough. Alex was helpful, responsive and kept me updated throughout the process. It made the process a lot less stressful for me. I would very much recommend them!

Landlords please avoid Gilson Gray Ltd

Awful experience with Gilson Gray, looking for assistance with eviction during the moratorium. With GG we were poorly advised, if given any information at all, invoices were badly managed and costs quickly spiralled. When my tenant attended GG's office, unannounced, (tenant was: damaging property, fighting with neighbours, generating complaints, contravening tenancy agreement, rent arrears £1,000s) GG spent 18 mins providing her comfort & advice, which I was not happy about and, even less so when presented with the bill for time GG chose to spend with the tenant. In my opinion, GG are far more interested in making money, than assisting their clients and I would advise landlords in a similar position to avoid engaging this company. After significant expenditure, much upset and little progress, we decided to go no further with GG. We joined a landlords association and, with their support & guidance, took the eviction process into our own hands. I would recommend investigating this route to any landlord seeking to evict.

An excellent service from highly professional staff

An excellent service from highly committed staff in the North Berwick Office. Selling our house and buying another proved to be very straightforward processes with excellent advice throughout. Queries were addressed quickly by Gill and Dawn, both of whom are customer-focused. I would have no hesitation in recommending the legal services of Gilson Gray.

Terrible experience- do not touch

Just purchased a house where the seller used Gilson Gray. Terrible experience with unnecessary delays that ended costing us over £1,000 in extra costs. Not to mention the added stress and anxiety due to the uncertainty that they created. I would not recommend and would actively advise anyone to avoid this company if they can. We will be writing to the Law Society of Scotland to complain as feel their levels of competence and professionalism fell well short of minimum expectations.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. We were recommended Gilson Gray by our mortgage broker and as first time buyers we naively thought that we would not be recommended them if they were no good.... biggest mistake. From the moment we began proceedings with them it was like drawing blood from a stone when trying to get information from our allocated solicitor. We had to do a lot of the chasing from various places on behalf of our solicitor as we were fed up of waiting for her and our seller was threatening to pull out. We were advised that due to us not being in a chain it should have taken only 3 months to complete, it took a little over 5 months. A few days before we were due to complete our solicitor contacted us via email to say we had not signed the deeds and could complete after all. As first time buyers we signed everything we were asked to sign and sent of via recorded delivery months before. We checked our emails three times just to make sure we hadn't made a mistake, the deeds had definitely never been emailed to us. This made even more of a delay. It wasn't until our solicitor had gone on annual leave for a week and our case passed to someone else to cover that everything seemed to be pushed through and we completed within that week. Even then they tried to overcharge us. I am aware that buying a house is stressful anyway, but having Gilson Gray handle our house purchase has been the most stressful experience and biggest mistake we could have made. We most definitely will not be recommending them or using them ever again.
