4 weeks of chasing for refund of reservation fee - Barton Point

Reserved a house but then decided to cancel, on the 29 November. It took raising a formal complaint and then a dispute through my bank before they would refund. This took just under 4 weeks. So hard to speak with anyone during this time. Unresponsive.However they only then partially refunded (£250 against £500 reservation). Paperwork states approx £100 admin fee deduction if a reservation is cancelled. No explanation as to why they have held £250. Totally unjustified given the fact I had to relentlessly chase Avant Homes to refund me. Terrible company, glad I never actually bought from the. Avoid.

So far, so great…

We saw our future home during lockdown (April/May 2020) and didn’t expect to be able to do anything, let alone view or buy it. But Natalie and Avant have been fantastic whilst ensuring social distancing. Natalie J has been great, talking us through everything. We’ve just completed and we’re due to move in the next few weeks. I’ll update the review then :)

Cadley village Swadlincote. STAY AWAY!!!

Poor workmanship, water leaks, problems with front door etc. Home owners are still having problems now. One couple went to the local newspaper telling them there experience because they were that fed up with problem after problem. Avant just don't care about people as long they get there money then it's sod you. It puts a lot of stress on people's mental health. It's suppose to be a good experience buying a new home not a bad one.

Disappointing

We reserved our house in Spring 2022 for our house to be completed in November 2022. We were told in July that we were at pre-plaster stage. However, we then visited our plot to find that they hadn’t even started. It is now December and we are being told May 2023. This is after a number of ignored emails from us that they have finally changed our completion date. When we spoke to the sales office in August we told them that we have ordered a sofa to arrive in February (as we were told our house would be complete for November) and we were told that we have made a ‘rookie mistake’. Avant have continuously lied to us and have not been active with building our house.

Not acceptable- a masterclass in how NOT to run a business

Wow what an embarrassment the last year or so interacting with Avant has been. The actual property side of things has been broadly ok having lived in an Avant home for 5 years now and the house still standing, but we are on a still unfinished estate (Millbrook, Middlesbrough) even though the last property has been completed for over a year, with unfinished paths, raised iron works destroying car tyres on a weekly basis, abandoned building materials in a still fenced off compound area on what is supposed to be communal land and a destroyed green area where Avant builders claimed the area to build the final houses and never rectified their damage, all with Avant not interested. Their customer service consists of a phone support that will advise you to email them. Their email support will consist of lengthy delays or no response at all and a tactic of deny all accountability and give arbitrary dates for completing works that are always missed. They leave the place in such a mess with such a poor standard of work that local authorities then refuse to adopt their workmanship and you end up on an estate that the builder won’t finish because they don’t want to spend more money redoing ground work that brings them zero income and the council won’t adopt as the ground and infrastructure work isn’t up to standard. My advice is think twice before choosing Avant. Standards have slipped dramatically over the last two years and as a customer, I would be asking the question, what causes a company to be so willing to sacrifice its reputation so massively (as can be seen from this trust pilot thread alone) for what should be pretty standard operating practices for a house builder, such as laying roads and footpaths. Customer service really doesn’t need to be this difficult, be open and honest, own your mistakes and apologise, understand your customers issues and then keep them informed of what you’re doing to put things right. Please try harder and do better, you have a lot of people that have spent a lot of money and put a lot of trust in you to build a home for their families, and you’re letting them and yourselves down.

AVANT - Avoid and buy elsewhere

AVANT market their houses as top spec top workmanship and top customer service! Once you’ve completed your sale they are not interested in helping or solving your property issues.Massive snag list you send to have rectified, no one take ownership and you get passed from staff to staff.It took nearly two years for them to agree to replace a stone windowsill which was broken on the day we moved in and this was only after attempting to fix it 3 times previously.Stay well clear, I have said to many coming to view show homes if you want to come and see the finished product with multiple issues and the emails sent unanswered I will happily show you.

Avoid Avant

Too long to list what went wrong. Communication none existent, rude staff, no accountability from anyone. List of defects are silly. My house was sold to me with smashed windows on the promise they would be change within a week. Two months later I still had smashed windows and countless phone calls to get absolutely nowhere. The house purchase should be the highlight of a life event but the awful experience and shocking aftercare leaves it more like a nightmare. Please avoid Avant, it really isn't worth your mental health with all the stress. This company simply do not care but are way too happy to take your money. Reported to NHBC

Absolutely amazing service from start…

Absolutely amazing service from start to finish, there were times we didn't think we would ever get our dream home owing to issues with our buyer, however Angela Kingsley and Victoria Spencer at the Summerville Development in Stockton-on-Tees, went above and beyond for us and we finally moved in on the 9th December 2022! VERY poor company with no customer service or after care!

We moved into a house we brought from this company over 8 months ago and still waiting for outstanding snags to be sorted. Weve not been able to use our on suite bathroom for about 6 weeks as it leaks terrible and all the grouting around the bottom tiles in there has broken. Avants customer service is a complete joke! They say they will fix things and just don't! They ignore calls or change phone numbers. All they want is your money and anything after they couldn't care less!!. Dont waste your time or money with this company

I would give this company 0 stars if I…

I would give this company 0 stars if I could. Nightmare of an experience buying with them from start to end. 9 months delayed on the completion of our house and not a single person from Avant has any clue what they are doing or how to treat and communicate with customers. We have been lied to on multiple occasions and the wool pulled over our eyes. We would’ve been better off flushing our money down the toilet than putting our trust in such an unethical and frankly shambolic company. Please please do NOT waste your money, time or effort with Avant.

Do Not Buy From Avanthomes

Noticed a couple of years ago on our then 8 year old house that mortar around our house was failing, causing gaps between bricks, walls cracking. On testing mortar was found to be defective, and of the incorrect standard. NHBC not interested, Avanthomes recently responded on the 5 or 6th attempt, stating as the house is outside the 2 year 'snagging period' there was nothing they would do. May cost around 20k + to correct defects. Be warned.

The building staff are fabulous

We bought in Stewarton Ayrshire, Scotland The building staff are fabulous, SO obliging,polite friendly and helpful. Nothing is a problem! The site foreman, and his crew, are excellent and on hand always.Ashley in sales, is a darling always on hand to answer any queries. The house is finished to a very high standard so we only have a small amount of snagging. The landscaping is lovely. We are so happy to have bought an Avant home, and would do so again.

I bought a house with this company 1 and a half years ago, the dream of owning a house is more of a nightmare, I don't remember a single month that I didn't have problems with structure, with finishing, it's been a month since I've been sending an email and the customer service no longer bothers to answer, in my bedroom bathroom (suite) a crack appeared between the tiles (walls) I have already sent photos and they have not given me a response for over a month. This company has no respect for its customers, the service offered is of poor quality, I do not recommend it to anyone.

5 years and still not finished…

We’ll have been in our home 5 years in March and Avant have still not managed to rectify the drainage issues, resulting in the tarmac top coat being unable to be laid. There’s greenery growing out the sides of the roads and pavements because they’re not able to finish their civil works. I’ve given 2 stars because the general quality of the home was to reasonable standard following an extensive amount of snagging. We’re one of the fortunate homes which saw the benefit of the better finishes. The specification of the houses were dramatically reduced following the acquisition of Avant Homes in April 2021, leaving Avant without their trademark product and lacking their previous identity.

5 years in and still no roads

Bought an Avant Home near York in 2017. The customer service experience was pretty awful - lots of promises, very little action, fixing snags took months with constant personnel changes and often making whatever issue they supposedly tried to fix much worse. Most neighbours just gave up in the end which feels like the AH strategy. It’s been 5 years now and the last home sold over 2 years ago. We still don’t have road surfaces in, countless tires punctured and the place looks an absolute mess. They’ve been promising each month for at least 18 months to do something - written to us all and not followed up. Absolute joke of a company. Either they have no intention of delivering on their promises, have serious cash flow problems, or can’t deliver as there is a greater issue with the drains than they are telling us. They just ignore us now. 200 houses in all here. Millions in income for avant.
