Every complex area was clearly and explicitly explained to us - what next steps Laura would be effecting and what was required of us. Laura replied to emails on day of my sending, returned telephone calls promptly and we always felt that she was engaged 100% in our business. We never felt we had asked a ‘silly’ question. Thorntons were very helpful throughout the whole process of purchasing our first house. They kept us up to date with the progress of the purchase and were quick to answer any questions we had. Everything went very smoothly until the day we were supposed to be moving in when factors outside our control delayed our move. Thorntons helped us out massively, keeping us up to date regularly and ensuring that our move was completed with the minimal amount of disruption possible.I would definitely recommend Thorntons to anyone purchasing a house.

I went to Thornton's Dundee to acquire a solicitor for buying a house.Laura was amazing, she kept in touch via phone and email to let me know the status of what was happening whether it was good news or that she just hadn't heard back from the opposing side. I was a first time buyer and Laura guided me in making my own choices and made sure I was happy with everything before continuing on with any paperwork etc. She was very happy to answer any of my questions and made time for me. Everything for my purchase went through smoothly and quickly, I wasn't left hanging or unable to get in touch when I needed to. I felt really valued and important! the dates for getting keys to the house weren't changed and were met on the deadline. Laura even phoned me the morning of the date and told me my keys were ready to pick up when I wanted to come get them! I cant recommend enough!!!

She remained professional, calm and measured in all dealings. Above all, Lucy gave the impression that her work is not just a job. Incompetent, unprofessional and disgusting service. Disorganised in their document management and submitted incorrect documents as well as omitted crucial requested documents to the court by the specified court deadline date. When flagged, they did not accept responsibility or correct their incompetence but rather unprofessionally withdrew their service leaving a mess of disorganised documentation to be cleaned up and an explanation to be provided to the court. When I complained directly to Thorntons, the complaint was dismissed . Consequently, I complained to the SLCC who partially upheld my complaint and issued financial compensation for their document management incompetence, but not for their unprofessional service withdrawl or discontempt for my later very justified complaint. Avoid them. Can't reiterate enough how unprofessional, incompetent and unacceptable their service was. Their incompetence caused alot of inconvenience, expense and work to correct.Secondary response to Thortons reply:The facts as can be evidenced by email transcript- As a Thornton's client and when your solicitor is unresponsive at the deadline hour, having to a) re-submit the correct version of a crucial document that was incorrectly submitted by your solicitor and b) also submit a prudent formal court requested document that was omitted from submission by your solicitor minutes past the deadline hour INDEPENDENTLY YOURSELF ONLINE is not "acting against Thornton's advice" as they claim. It is correcting Thornton's disorganisation and incompetence. As a client, I politely and considerately demonstrated understanding and forgiveness for their shortcomings of document error in written email directly to them (as mistakes happen) prompting Throntons to continue their service representing me. However, not only did they NOT correct their incompetent errors also evasive of an apology...Thorntons just abruptly withdrew their service demonstrating no integrity or professionalism what so ever. My ensuing just and appropiate direct complaint to Thorntons was later internally dismissed. As a result and having proceding to a SLCC complaint, a formal written apology was only later issued to me by Thorntons directly via email when they were formally instructed and prompted do so by the SLCC to accompany the financial compensation awarded for their incompetent disorganisation of documents that caused me distress, expense and inconvenience to correct. Thornton's shocking lack of integrity and professionalism far superexcedes that of their subparr document organisation management and incompetence.
Dear Miss Barnes,We are disappointed you did not receive the service you expected on this occasion.As communicated directly to you at the time, we withdrew our offer to represent you following your decision to act against our legal advice and some communications directed towards our employees which we found to be unacceptable.This move was further justified when the SLCC ruled in our favour in three out of the four issues raised by you and agreed that we were right to withdraw from your case. Despite all of this we have reviewed our own practices since this incident and have implemented plans to ensure such an occurrence does not happen again. Louise Stephens was brilliant - so responsive and genuinely lovely to deal with, working through any issues with practical and helpful advice. We are still to complete our Scottish purchase but Stephen who is representing is for that matter is equally excellent. Would really recommend!

Ours was a somewhat protracted sale due to the first 'buyers' dropping out close to the completion date. Throughout the whole process Eilidh Conacher was excellent and kept us informed of what was happening and actively chased up any oustanding issues. She also has a lovely manner and comes across as really caring about achieving a positive outcome for the customer - this really helped with keeping stress to a minimum, for which we were very grateful!
