GoogleA few years ago we rented a property from these guys. They charged us 120 (x2) for each person for referencing admin and £150 admin fee (£390 total) when referencing costs about £20 from the 3rd party they use.
If we had children, would they have charged £120 to credit check each child? how about the pet dog?
They were deep in the "rip of tenants" game with unscrupulous fees. Further to this, when the rented property flooded through no fault of our own and it was all a calamity, they charged us another admin fee for the new property! - as 'good will' they didn't charge us for another reference check - how is this goodwill?("this time will rip you off less than we ripped you off before"). When we finally moved out of the area it took us 3 months and threat of legal action to get our overpaid rent back.
Overdue review, shocking.

Dear Andrew
Thank you for your comments, I will be looking into this matter please email me robert@potterandford.co.uk with the property address that you moved from so I can look into this.
Sorry you felt that way about the fees but we have always been very competitive with fees and at the time we were one of the cheapest in this area. We always looked at other agents fees and tried to be more affordable.
The lettings fee ban is now in effect and although looks good on paper.... as feared by agents, rents are starting to increase with national average up over 2% - agents relied on revenue from these fees to keep the doors open and have had to charge more to landlords or look else where for revenue, so people have lost jobs and some landlords have been selling due to fee changes and other government tax changes, meaning less rental properties to meet the same demand therefore increasing rents. We feel in the not so distant future tenants will be more out of pocket year on year than before the fee ban.
I hope this helps you to understand.
We wish you good luck for the future.

GoogleBeware their inventory company. Potter and Ford have lovely staff who do try their best to help you. The company that they use for doing their inventories for lettings are total scam artists. The individuals sent round for the property I was renting couldn't be bothered to get all areas of damage. They then attempt to claim that damage and dirt is new on your check out report, despite the fact they took photographs of the same damage on the check in report.
I even had to argue with the person doing the check in that the property had gas - despite the fact that she had taken pictures of the gas safety certificates AND the gas boiler!NegativeProfessionalism

Dear Conor
So sorry that you had this experience, we have looked into this the company sent a different employee (fairly new) to do the check out and are very sorry for any issues that this caused.
We will monitor the company closely and if we feel they are not providing a good service to both landlord and tenant we will not continue to use them, so thank you for drawing out attention to this.
Thank you for your comments about our team, they work very hard to try and give clients and tenants a great experience, its not fair if they are let down by companies that we employ to carryout additional services.
We wish you good luck for the future.

GoogleRichard was really helpful. Communicative, prompt to reply to all queries, courteous and proactive. On more than one occasion he stepped in where he didn't have to to ensure the sale progressed smoothly and on time. I have nothing negative to say about my experience with Potter and Ford and should I ever sell the house I've just bought I will call them first. Well done and many thanks Richard.

GoogleI cannot speak highly enough of Potter & Ford’s service and professionalism. Richard and the team dealt with my sale in the manner I’d hope of a local experienced agent, even with the odd twist and turn thrown in! I would recommend them to anyone wishing to sell or buy in the Chesham and Amersham area.

GoogleBought our first house from P&F, had no reservations enlisting their services to sell it. They not just sold it once for us, but when they sale fell through (no fault of theirs) we tasked them for selling it a second time for us, and they had to do it in a week so our offer on our new house would be accepted. They had prospective buyers through the door in 2 days and offers on the table within 4.
Pleasant, available, no nonsense pros. Richard, Nikki, Alise and all are lovely people who went above and beyond to see that our sale went as smoothly as possible.

From the moment I reached out to her, she was incredibly attentive, responsive, and dedicated to helping me find the perfect home. GoogleWe recently bought a house through Potter & Ford. Nikki, who showed us around, was really friendly and Richard, who we dealt with for submitting our offer and the logistics after, was also really patient with us as first time buyers and helped us understand the house buying process a little better. Overall a great experience!

GoogleDid not have a good experience renting with Potter and Ford. I moved into a property of theirs that had a shower that I saw in my viewing, but when I moved in I realised that the shower did not work on either temperature control or water pressure. Their solution was to have a complete new boiler system reinstated 3- 4 months later, with a process that is apparently lengthy and disruptive (I likely would have had no bathroom at all for some time), or asking me to pay for another electric shower to be installed - a cost that I did not feel that I should have to bear as a tenant. I stated from the start that this was not what I had signed the tenancy agreement on - I assumed that having viewed a shower in the house that it would have worked - and stated from as soon as realising this that I would move out after the first month if it was not going to be resolved. They asked me to pay them £1.5 thousand pounds to do this, which having taken legal advice over is a completely inappropriate request for something that they should have been resolving, and when I did move out after my first month (having already notified them since my first day as tenant that I would do) they kept my deposit in full £784.61, even though they got a new tenant in within the first two weeks of me having moved out: they have technically made money from the situation that was their responsibility to resolve. This is all in addition to having had my move in date changed by them several times, having been told that the property would be thoroughly cleaned and painted before my move in - it wasn't - and being told that all white goods were being replaced before I moved in - they weren't. Thoroughly disappointed in this estate agent, I do not recommend using them at all.

Potter and Ford are disappointed to see this review, especially as 99.9% of it is simply not true.
Before asking to rent the property, Mairi viewed it exactly as it was, a lovely old listed cottage with wooden beams etc. but, as with lots of very old cottages, there was no stand up shower. It was not advertised as having a shower just the attachment, nor did she ask for a shower or say it was an essential before she signed a contract, we had not received any complaints about it from the previous tenant. However the complaints began almost immediately after she moved in.
The landlord was great and offered her lots of different options but none were good enough for her. He even offered to have a gas supply installed to the property and a brand new central heating system (and shower) installed for her, but still not good enough. Due to age of the property and current set up it was not a simple task, 2 contractors visited to try and improve the current set up and give their opinions on the best way to get a better shower installed.
Although she signed a 12 month agreement, with a 6 month break clause, she wanted to leave after just a couple weeks and although the landlord didn’t have to release her from the agreement he was willing to do so if she just paid one month’s rent and the deposit to cover a notice period and his re-marketing costs. She refused. We then offered her different options, but she refused. All we could do is let the Deposit Protection service sort it out, in the end she left her furniture for us/landlord to remove ... and just walked out.
We have hundreds of very happy and satisfied tenants and landlords. Unfortunately there are some people that cannot be pleased, the landlord went above and beyond what others would. It was over a month after Mairi left that a new tenant moved in, the new tenant has been in for a few weeks now and no complaints thus far.

GoogleIf I could put 0 stars I would. From the start of our first tenancy we ran into a few minor problems nothing to bad just a few misspellings of names and little details like that. Then after using them a second time they seemed to decline rapidly. We have received disgusting emails from serval people after being told repeatedly we were allowed a pet in the property to then told we could either pay £600 to keep her there or get rid of our beloved pet (as if that’s even a choice) or face eviction. I could write a whole essay on the disgusting treatment we have had to deal with. Disgusting company and horrendous staff.

Dear Annie, I'm so sorry you feel this way, we pride ourselves on trying to give our customers the best service we can and I will always try to address any negative feedback.
In this instance a pet was introduced to the property after the tenancy began, this was not permitted but the landlord said they would accept with an increased deposit of £600.
I will be looking into the emails sent to you and appropriate action will be taken if I find them to be offensive.
Kind Regards

GoogleWe were treated to rude, ill-mannered behaviour by a female member of the letting staff at Potter and Ford. We had gone to great lengths to return the property to the level of cleanliness that greeted us 3 years ago, in many respects we surpassed it, I believe. We had arranged to meet the member of staff on site at a prescribed time to conduct a survey of the house with them. When my wife arrived she was informed, brusquely, that the survey had already been conducted, she demanded my wife surrender her key, and effectively, clear off.
In the last week of our tenancy, at some inconvenience to ourselves, we agreed, at short notice to allow prospective tenants to view the house. A senior member of staff responded with grace and gratitude. You have now shot yourself in the foot entrusting this ill-equipped, ill-advised woman with the handover.
Potter and Ford, you are a service industry in a small town; treat your clients with contempt at your peril.

Dear Mr Reddyhoff
So sorry to hear about your experience, the lady in question is an independent inventory clerk not employed by Potter and Ford, we use a few different companies for this service, we have never received a complaint about her and generally have found her to be very reliable, thorough and friendly. We take all complaints seriously so will be speaking with her and explaining that she is representing us and our clients and we expect everyone to be treated with respect and in a friendly manner.
