All members of staff that we dealt with at Stephenson Browne were friendly, knowledgeable and an asset to the team. We had a very difficult sale having to amend boundaries which caused significant delays but the team could not have been more supportive and lived the whole experience with us, providing advice and support whenever needed. We would absolutely recommend anyone selling a house to use Stephenson Browne, they were amazing!

Do not rent through this company. They are very poor at addressing issues with a property. I reported damp on many occasions which was not resolved. Add to this no support at all during checkout, very slow to respond to emails regarding ending the tenancy and then attempting to use use my deposit to pay for repairs to a poorly maintained house. Basically they're happy to take your money but provide shoddy service and use unethical practices to avoid returning deposits. I'll never use them again.

We choose the Alsager branch to complete our sale of our property. We found at the start the sales team to be very accommodating and knowledgable when giving us advice and support. During the viewings we felt slightly less supported doing all viewings ourselves and communication during offer was not always the best. However, Margaret in the after sales team is amazing, providing weekly updates and always making us feel supported. We always felt Margaret had our best interests and would always be in the ball if there was ever a problem.

We have always found Stephenson and Brown very helpful and are now in our 6th year of renting through this agent. From the initial house viewing through to move in date we were always kept up to date with information. House inspections have always been easy to arrange and when visiting the staff have always been professional and polite. We are always kept up to date with new emergency procedures and when it is time for any gas safety checks etc too. Thank you for the continued brilliant service!

I was looking to invest in a buy-to-let and completely new to the Stoke area, being drawn to it because of very good yields. I needed help with which areas to concentrate on. I left a message asking for support and Sarah Radford called me back. I have since spoken with several Stoke lettings agents and she is by far the best. I can email or speak to her knowing she will review a property for me very quickly with a rental estimate, pros and cons and even a local history all of which I really appreciate. She emails back rapidly despite me never having paid anything to her company. If I am successful in a recent offer I want Sarah to manage my property and she has already been up front as to costs and fees. Below is my first review of Stephenson Browne, recently however they sold my home for me. I also purchased a new house from them , well a bungalow actually. The sales negotiator who dealt with me was very good. The salsa chaser worked exceptionally hard at the end as my buyers solicitor was a bit poor at responding to my solicitor so the sales chaser was the go between. I lost count of how many emails we exchanged. She was always pleasant, polite, and professional. REMEMBER if you use one of the one line estate agents you have to do the sales negotiation yourself and ALL the chasing. In my case that would have been a nightmare, especially as I had a holiday booked the week prior to my move. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. However don't be afraid to keep in constant touch with your agents and solicitors. Oh yes I would use them again Stephenson Browne have handled property letting for me for almost a decade, gosh I feel old! They have always supplied an excellent service and back up, plus advice when needed. I have always chosen to manage my own properties, but they have supplied advice if needed. As to the reviews that say they withhold deposits. I have only had to retain a deposit once, and on that occasions the tenant, or rather ex tenant had left me with over £1,000 worth of repairs and redecoration to carry out. She was without a doubt the tenant who caused the most casual low level damage to any of my properties. She could not accept the chaos she had left behind. However the agent brokered a resolution and offered words of advice. In my opinion they would never encourage a landlord to withhold the deposit without due cause. I have recommended the agent to several of my friends who have also been very happy. A word of caution - Whenever I have people relate horror stories about renting out properties, the second thing they usually say after they have told me that it all went wrong, is that they didn't use an agent, and/or didn't have a contract. I have rented to friends and people I know, but have always used these agents and had a contract. When it comes to friends especially it is good to have the agents to provide a professional buffer. Even if you don't use these agents do have a contract and a letting agent

Complain about anything and be prepared…

Complain about anything and be prepared for a s21. As others have mentioned, they look down their noses and expect you to drop everything with little notice. Even my dad’s funeral wasn’t a reason to cancel an inspection, also note I had lived there nearly 4 years. Note for ladies, some seriously creepy contractors that like to proposition you even with kids around. Best thing they did was give a s21 as I now have a permanent home in a better location and without having to deal with these slumlords.

We were delighted with the service provided by Craig and his team in the Alsager branch of Stephenson and Browne. The recommended sale price for our property given to us by Craig was realistic and proved to be easily achievable as our property sold before it reached the open market. Even though we had a full asking price offer, the team still carried out the full service just in case the sale fell through. All the staff were friendly and professional at all times and we would happily recommend Stephenson and Browne to anybody looking to sell their home.

we have lived in same property for 4 and a half years originally let through Timothy Brown then taken over years later by Stephenson browne they have to be the worst company i have ever known in all my years of owning and renting properties the first thing they do when taking over is get landlords to put rent up then they come round and look down there nose at you because you choose to rent they have repair people who when they ring you up expect you to drop everything and be prepaired to be at there beck and call and god forbid you work.

Issues with rentals

We live in a small cul de sac where three houses have been rented out by this shoddy company. Needless to say all three tenants are causing issues in the street and SB are completely and utterly disinterested. Yes they have been contacted by me and others. I am not writing this review for any other reason than to say that if you’re a landlord you cannot trust Alsager branch to manage your property correctly because due to their inaction there’s a real divide opening up on this street. I plan to sell next year but guess what these guys won’t get a look in based upon my experience and the other reviews on here.

cant say I'm surprised by the bad reviews of the Crewe branch I visited once and can see why people have written the bad reviews but this is about the Newcastle branch and to be honest cant speak highly enough of the team, I got exactly the asking price and plenty of viewings. If I had to say anything negative ( and I don't ) its that once a offer is accepted it is moved to another person in another branch in this case Crewe and/or Sandbach which meant depending on email if you cant through on the phone whereas if it had stayed in the Newcastle branch it would have made life easier

Incredibly poor and incompetent service while renting, so much so I'm still annoyed now after buying a house a few years ago - they didn't have Google Reviews then and no surprise if my experience is typical. In short, while renting (looking to move out) we've had people come to view the property without us being informed beforehand (first we found out was a knock at the door). We were then informed of a viewing that never arrived. Calling Stephenson Brown we eventually discovered they had found a new tenant but didn't tell us and we were due to move out after a couple of weeks. Reluctantly we used Stephenson Brown again on another rental property. A neighbour (also with SB) complained about our noise (including such ridiculous complaints as walking up and down the stairs and flushing the toilet past 9pm). Rather than ask us about it we received a threatening email saying we were being monitored and any more complaints and things would be escalated. We asked to speak to someone and Stephen Bird came around. He was actually very nice and realised how petty the complaints were. That's just our experience but my partners dad had a house for sale which they had a buyer for. He received a call from SB to say the sale had fallen through only to find out they had the wrong house. I hope this branch has improved now and am glad we'll never have to use again.
