TrustpilotMy wife and I bought our first home from Hill at Marleigh in Cambridge. Over about ten months, from first viewings to our first weeks living here, we dealt with around ten people at Hill. There were imperfect moments, but the way Hill handled them is why I'm giving five stars. I’m a very particular buyer. I visited developments within a wide radius of Cambridge, saw countless house types from almost every builder, and narrowed it down to four homes from four different builders. Throughout that long search, Florence, Tracey, and Alan on the sales team were patient and straightforward with us. We viewed the show homes again and again, and nobody ever pushed us or created a false sense of urgency. Florence was the best sales executive we met at any developer. She was honest, gave feedback we could trust as we weighed up our options, and felt more like a friend than a salesperson. Tracey was lovely, replied within minutes whenever we wrote (Saturdays included), and met us on site every time we wanted another look. Hill was our favourite for all those reasons, but our second-favourite builder was offering a better deal, and I fully expected to buy from them. When we asked whether Hill could do better, Florence was candid that approval was uncertain but put our request forward anyway, and Hill came back with an offer that let us buy the home we really wanted. It wasn’t all smooth, and that’s where Hill stood out. There were misunderstandings too, and I know I can be demanding. When we disagreed over some details, Florence and Tracey took our concerns seriously and talked them through with us in person and by phone until we reached agreement. Helen stepped in only when needed, and each time she moved things forward. They’re very good at their jobs, including dealing with demanding people like me! After the reservation, our contact was Georgia, the customer experience executive, and she’s another big reason I’d recommend Hill. I’ve always considered Amazon the benchmark for customer service; thanks to Georgia, Hill is the first British company I’ve dealt with that beats it. She sent us dozens of emails and usually replied within about twenty minutes. She accommodated our independent snagging inspection before completion. The report scored our home at 90% across 201 checks, and the inspector described it as “possibly the best-built and finished home I have inspected this year.” She then gave us a thorough home demonstration a week before we moved in and sent a written report within the hour. Rather than working from the (genuinely luxurious) marketing suite, she sits with the build team, so she can sort problems out immediately with the contractors on site. A few days after completion, a faulty cistern caused a leak. I reported it at 11pm, and by 8am the next morning Georgia had a plumber on the way, 9am in our home. Darrell, who came to fix our snagging items, was quick and did a great job, and the day after his visit, Georgia checked in, unprompted, to make sure we were happy. Some things are still in progress, but Georgia keeps chasing and updating us, so we’ve never had to chase Hill ourselves. A new build will have snags, and what matters is how the builder responds. In our experience, Hill responded quickly, honestly and with real care. All our neighbours I spoke to also said that they had fantastic experiences with how Georgia helped them! Everyone we dealt with deserves a pay rise. They’re great people individually and a great team together. They are unbelievably good at what they do!

Poor build quality, terrible customer service and endless excuses when it comes to repairs. It took over six months of arguments just to get a ceiling light replaced. Defective bathroom tiles reported at handover remain unresolved 18 months later, yet Hill closed the case without fixing the problem. The management team has been arrogant, dismissive and downright rude. Instead of taking responsibility, they repeatedly delay, make excuses and avoid addressing legitimate concerns. Once they’ve sold you the house, they simply don’t seem to care anymore. A so-called five-star housebuilder that is five-star in name only. Absolutely disgraceful!

We are extremely disappointed with Hill’s handling of an ongoing metallic sill noise issue at our flat in Cambridge. First reported in February 2025, the problem remains unresolved despite numerous follow-ups and a formal complaint. Hill previously claimed the works were completed and closed the case, but the issue persisted. Communication has been consistently poor, with repeated emails required to obtain updates and no clear timeline for a permanent solution. There also appears to be a serious lack of communication between Hill and the contractors they hire. The providers attending to inspect or carry out works do not seem to understand the actual issue because Hill's poor communication, resulting in ineffective interventions and further delays. The lack of accountability and coordination is extremely frustrating, especially as the rainy season approaches and the noise threatens our comfort and sleep once again. Based on our experience, Hill’s aftercare service and communication on this issue have been deeply disappointing.
