Charles church 5 bedroom luxury home; The Truth

I bought a 5 bedroom luxury home from Charles Church nearly 2 years ago, I have incorrect fitted external doors including my french doors all needing replaced, none of my windows have been sealed so problems with noise & drafts, there is daylight showing through external doors and actual blinds & curtains blowing inside the house, every single internal door is damaged and needs to be replaced. I have the incorrect kitchen sink which is incorrectly fitted, I have a broken cooker extractor... I have every upgraded light switch fitting covered in paint, the entire house requires repainting due to shocking paintwork, I have a hole in my main bathroom wall , all my bathroom extractors are covered in paint, I have broken upgraded radiators, I have 1 out of 3 showers working and cheap useless taps & plug fittings in all bathrooms, I have under the required insulation in my loft, I have broken internal shelves in my upgraded kitchen, I have not had any of my kitchen worktops sealed or showers, I have 2 incorrect fitted garage doors causing a huge draft, I have bathroom tiles that have not been sealed, I have wires hanging from every radiator in the house, I have shocking brickwork externally... what I do not have is any money left to fix all of this and 2 years in it’s absolutely shocking that this is genuinely the state of my home, the customer service is appalling, called in NHBC and the Charles church representative due to attend to resolve these huge problems didn’t bother to show up, no one is remotely interested in helping me and yet as I sit here with my head in my hands more and more houses are being built. I wish I knew ; I hope my review seriously deters anyone considering purchasing anything from this builder.

House not so bad, estate layout TERRIBLE!

My overall house is ok, there have been a few snags that have either been sorted or still need sorting but nothing too bad. My main complaint is the layout of the estate, we picked a 4 bed detached house near the back of the estate, we were aware that there was going to be affordable housing behind us but we did not realise how close behind us they meant. When we moved in there was nothing behind us but fields so the view was lovely, now there are flats and houses that have been built so close to my back garden that I don't like to use it. The apartments have balconies which overlook my garden! The field is on the other side why wouldn't you put the balcony facing the field? It makes no sense! So after months of buying our 'dream' home we have a garden which provides us with no privacy whatsoever overlooked by flats and houses. We decided to sell the house last year but nobody wants to buy it due to the house being overlooked at almost every angle! Now we are stuck in a house which we cannot sell, the planning and layout of the estate is ridiculous!

If I could give Zero stars I would

If I could give Zero stars I would. My 81 year old mother bought a show house from them. The front door was broke and would not lock when she moved in and there was a water stain on the ceiling in the hall as well as many other minor defects. The site manager locked my mum in her house and said he would be back to order a new door, we never saw him again and my mother had to pay out £2000 for a new door as Charles Church would not respond to her complaints. The water stain on the ceiling they said was caused by the door being opened all the time as it was the show home and they did not come back to investigate it. Now every time it rains and its windy, my mother has water pouring in through her ceiling and window frames. her insurance company inspected it and said it was poor workmanship with regards to the pointing yet Charles Church are not interested and I am now going through trading standards. My 81 year old mother is living in a damp and mouldy house and Charles Church who have made hundreds of Millions in profits in the last year don't give a damn about you once they have your money.Do not buy a house from these cowboys you will just end up buying a lifetime of stress and worry.

Worst builder Charles Church - Persimmons

Charles Church has unethical practices all the way from get go. Unfortunately there is no zero star rating option ! They harass and pressurise their customers unnecessarily. They drove me and my wife crazy during our buying process. In the end you will be so fed up that you will just feel walking away from the deal. They will never own up to their mistakes and will try best to put on you even if it's their fault. Then they also recommend some solicitor to go with ... NEVER DO IT. It is a scam they just it for getting commission. Not because of anything else. I got coaxed into the solicitor they recommended and almost lost the deal because people were incompetent. They never owned up that it's them who recommended them in the first place. They brought my family to tears . By God it tell you . I curse them day and night they have no ethics. They are just wolves underneath their smiling faces. There are so many other great builders out there go with them who appreciate your money .Save your family peace of mind and agony. NEVER BUY CHARLES CHURCH OR PERSIMMONS.

Poor customer service

On top of poor quality of build the customer service is poor. Reported water logging in garden due to drainage no one turned up till date.Turn around time and responses are poor. Don't care about you after the sales. Very stressful journey with the builder.

Heard a loud rumble and bang this…

Heard a loud rumble and bang this morning. Went out to investigate only to find a tile had fallen from middle of roof onto the drive below! Not the first time a CHARLES CHURCH house owner has experienced this! It narrowly missed our car. Hubby was out there yesterday working!! I dread to think what damage a tile could have caused to anyone let alone a vehicle! A neighbour had the same thing happen a short while ago. CHARLES CHURCH showed no concern .... apparently not their fault! We all know their house warranty is only 2 years! But surely we should expect a roof to last a lot longer. The reason for buying new, after all, is for peace of mind! NHBC, again told our neighbour the cost was not great enough so... do it yourself! We totally agree with their thoughts, tiles don't cost much.... BUT NOT WHEN IT COMES TO AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! Also these are Health and Safety issues Shame on you all! So take this as a warning! CHARLES CHURCH and indeed the expensive NHBC we gladly pay out for, are the most uncaring people regarding their Health and Safety Policies! I worry how many more will fall like it did before we have to shell out for a new roof! The house is only 5 years old!

STAY AWAY - DO NOT BUY

DO NOT buy from these guys. They completely misell all the information. They lie to all the new homeowners to get a sale. I would never purchase a house of them again...When purchasing my house i was told that the estate would be private and and have a private park with a locked gate and for access just to the homeowners in the estate....What a load of boll**ks...the estate is connected to another run down estate with the park open to everyone....so there is a lot of people that you wouldn't like to mix with.....if you get my drift....All the good points about buying a house from these guys was a complete lie.I hope they get caught for miselling and fined heavily...Your welcome!!!!

Funny how going back a while there was…

Funny how going back a while there was next to no 5 star reviews.....then for some reason they started appearing. In my opinion either they have shaped up or people may be receiving incentives to post 5 star reviews or even employees posting them....I know which one I would opt for, I believe they are trying to offset the true reviews to at least even the score out.The way I would describe the way this company operate is corporate thieves IMHO. The way the customer DON'T care department operates is beyond belief. Once your money has changed hands you then appear to be old news....onto their next bag of gold. Stand and deliver. The whole industry needs a sort out along with NHBC. PROPER checks need to be carried out. These people need to be accountable....prosecutions and prison time needs to be on the cards. This is the only way I can see to clean this closed loop set up . Keep your money in your pocket and look elsewhere. They advertise "Charles Church the name on the finest homes" well certainly not in my case and lots of other homeowners I know. I wish I could post photo's for any potential new fools....sorry customers.

Very poor quality build, expect problems to arise over time

I have an apartment purchased from this developer and my Mother has a house also from them. The problem is that the issues arise over time, outside of the guarantee period, and obviously even with evidence that the issues are caused by poor workmanship there is no remedy. The issues have been numerous, the latest being a collapsed kitchen sink in the London apartment due to incorrect installation. In contrast the victorian house that I purchased 25 years ago has had no major problems at all, so in future I shall certainly look for period buildings.

Second time around for us...still recommend them!

Having owned a Persimmon Home, from new, we were happy to buy another. We’ve just moved into the Charles Church development in Salisbury and so far so good. As with any new build home there are the inevitable snags but the team onsite have been happy to get them all sorted within a reasonable time. The site team have also handed over a number of unwanted freebies - my husband is quite happy with the number of damaged kitchen units he’s acquired for storage in the garage. Overall great service and really happy with our house. My advice would be to talk to your site team regularly and be polite to people! Have reasonable expectations; a build timescale will change due to the weather and unforeseen circumstances.

Charles church/persimmon homes are an awful company. Charge a fortune for their homes and when it comes to defects and repairs they aren't interested into rectifying. Poor customer service. Extremely poor workmanship. I will never ever recommend this company to anyone. I would prefer to give the company 0 stars. They should be giving compensation to all the unlucky home owners!! I thought Charles church had a good name but now with persimmon they dont. Disgraceful company!!

I purchased a property in June 2018 with a completion date of October 2018. I have now been promised a completion date at the end of the first week in December by the regional Manager. It is the 22nd November and First fix hasn't even been completed!! Its all just lies after lies, and thats only after numerous phone calls and emails with no response! Yet despite this they are still saying I will be in my new home in 2 weeks! Pull the other one PERSIMMON!

Charles Church ruined our first property purchase ....

We have just purchased our first flat at Westvale Park and the overall experience has been traumatic to say the least. My advice is DO NOT purchase from Charles Church, we have 8 months in nearly to the overall journey and it has been a headache from start to finish. Overall we were harrassed by the sales team before and during the sale, had the wrong choices in our flat (which was delayed by over 3 months from the date we were told then replaced with the wrong options AGAIN), the snagging list is endless and this is not just cosmetic. We are coming towards the end of November and both over oven and heating have not been fixed after nearly 3 months of owning the flat. Overall customer service is shocking - we even had a sales rep trying to enter our flat as she was told by the team on site it was empty! The only saving grace of not giving them one star is Craig the devloper on site who answered our questions and queries and the members who have been out to fix the problems that Charles Church made. Myself and my partner are in the process of making a formal complaint towards Charles Church over a number of issues, which I have not mentioned here as there isn't enough time or space! Our neighbours are doing the same as they have also had a number of issues. My advice, save your money and time for another delvoper who actually will give you what you have paid for and not harrass you day and night. Who knows we may actually have a warm flat with working oven by next year.....

We just moved into a flat in Chalfont…

We just moved into a flat in Chalfont St Peter's new development and the experience, from exchange date until today, couldn't have been worse and more traumatic. Not only the apartment is full of snags -and not of the cosmetic type precisely- but the way in which Customer Services is dealing with it is appalling. They are plain rude, they make you be home for hours and then don't bother turning up or calling, they ignore you when you call .... I've been talking to neighbors and they've all been through the same. So, my advice, if you are thinking of buying something here: don't, unless you are looking at being miserable, angry and upset for a very long time. If we could, we would get our money back and run away from here as fast as possible. Unfortunately, when buying property, it doesn't work that way.

Karen @ the Cottons

The five stars is not for Charles Church but Karen in the Cottons Show house. Regardless of the snags and issues when you move to a newly built home, we need to remember the hard work that the sales team do. Karen at the Cottons was always helpful and got back to us when we had any questions. We moved long distance so needed to be sure we had support in place at our future home - Karen provided this. She was always friendly, polite, engaging and accommodating. Things may not always go right when you move and if you look at the reviews you will see that sometimes the workmanship isn't consistent and to the standard we as customers expect. Karen doesn't build the houses, she sells them and speaking from my experience she does a great job and sets herself high standards. Downside - she introduced us to Arighi Bianchi and cost me a fortune
