Poor buyer experience. Beware potential vendors!

We recently purchased a property through Jackson-Stops. Potential vendors, please read this review.Initially we were very impressed with Nick Talbot and Jackson-Stops. (York office) Our viewing was scheduled for the following Monday after I called as soon as the property was live on Rightmove on the Friday morning. We were surprised when Nick phoned back to rearrange the time of the viewing (not a great first impression) and then we learned on the day of the viewing that he had shown a party round on the Saturday, even though he had insisted that it was not possible for us to view on the Saturday….?! (London “cash buyers” apparently). Charming. Albeit this, we felt a great deal of confidence in Nick at first and we loved the house. We had to go to best and final offers and our offer was accepted. Nick seemed to handle the situation perfectly. But from here on our experience was hugely disappointing…. When we were unfortunately gazumped the day after, Nick didn’t call us. He emailed.When the vendor wished to revert to our offer another day later, after all was not going to plan and the gazumper couldn’t prove funds, Nick didn’t call again. He emailed. Although this was an unfortunate situation, and not of his doing, he should have called not emailed. Maybe he was embarrassed, but it was not an ideal way of handling things. Communication was already poor.Following the memorandum of sale being sent out. Nick contacted us only ONCE between this official email and completing, even though the chain free sale took a full five months and was stressful, complex and difficult. We absolutely loved the house but on a couple of occasions considered not proceeding. Nick did nothing to keep the sale on track. On speaking with the vendor, we understand that they also have had the same level of disconnected service and contact and he was/is very unhappy with the service from Nick and from Jackson-Stops. The lack of communication from Jackson-Stops was disappointing and made an already challenging sale much more difficult. There was no brochure for the house as we had when we sold our house, only an email version which was poor. Eco-friendly by all accounts! Prospective vendors should certainly be aware of this before instruction.After exchange, we still hadn’t had any form of contact from Nick. My husband had to call and chase to ask if we could meet on completion day for the key handover two days before toarrange. Then on completion day, we waited excitedly outside the house. And waited! Nick was late. By over half an hour. We were not surprised. Although on this occasion he did call to apologise. He also arrived empty handed. No gesture here of a little something even after paying nearly 1.7 million for a property. Again, a totally different experience from when we sold with a different agent. Our buyers were over the moon with their handover from our very professional and generous agent. Nick obviously wanted to hand the keys over and get off as soon as possible. On inspection there were items that had been taken by the vendor which should have been left, Nick said that he would call the vendor and get back to us. We still wait for that phone call 3 months later…..! When we sold our house with another local estate agent, (Lancaster Samms) the experience could not have been more different. Constant communication between all parties and a slick, professional service. Our Estate agent provided a lovely and welcoming handover to our buyer. He made sure he was there on time at least! (Actually he was there earlier to welcome them and with house warming gifts which was a nice gesture) So there are better, more caring estate agents out there who deserve and give value for your money. We have bought our dream house but we all would honestly have had better service from Purple Bricks! Our vendor paid 16k for a few hours of Nick’s time. Such a shame.

Have recently experienced outstanding service from Jackson Stops in Woburn. Anthony, Neil and Tracy were all superb. Tracy has especially taken the time on more than several occasions to follow up with further information requested on particular properties and general knowledge of the areas we have been looking at which has been extremely helpful. Her professional approach and knowledge is second to none and we would definitely recommend using this agency in future and will use them ourselves when we come to sell again. My husband and I have both worked in this sector so are particularly impressed when we receive such an excellent service and the fact that Tracy went over and above her duties to help us. She is an asset to the company.

First-class service

From the start Jackson Stops provided a first-class service re my house sale. Their valuation proved spot-on, their photographer did magnificent job, the brochure was a real work of art and within hours of the house going on the market they had a dozen or so enquiries. The second viewing, by a couple with no change and no mortgage, resulted in a sale above the asking price. At all times Jacksons' staff, at both their Bridport and Dorchester offices, were responsive, friendly, professional and thoroughly pleasant to deal with. I can recommend Jacksons' wholeheartedly.

The best in the business

As seasoned house movers we have experienced estate agents across the range. Ria and James from Jackson-Stops North Devon are without a shadow of a doubt the best there are. We have never worked with such a professional, efficient and caring team. Their recommended photographer was exceptional, and they worked with us to produce a really beautiful brochure, presenting our home at its absolute best, resulting in 125 enquiries, and several offers, which they helped us to decide upon, resulting in progression to a successful sale, despite a very long wait for our buyers. When things got a bit tricky in the lead up to exchange, Ria was right there easing things along with the legal teams and the other estate agents in the chain, whilst communicating fully with us and our buyers. Jackson-Stops North Devon are the best in the business.

We dealt with Ria at Jackson Stops, at what was a very busy time for estate agents at the end of the stamp duty window. She and her colleagues were excellent. First class communication skills and a diplomatic go between. A great balance of friendly and professional and happy to go above and beyond. An offer to save us an extra 30 miles drive at the end of our move by delivering keys rather than making us collect was very kind. I’ve dealt with many agents over the years. These are among the very best.

Ideal letting agents - knowledgeable, efficient and good value

I started renting my first property in 2019, with Simon Roberts of Jackson Stops as my agent. Simon vetted and found me good tenants, he dealt rapidly with any household issues and managed all aspects of the let. He was also a font of knowledge. I learned so much, and my experience was so positive that I invested in another property. Again, Simon was invaluable with advice on properties to consider, and those to avoid, getting tenants and managing the let. Their charges are reasonable, and I'm now looking to expand my portfolio further. Thoroughly recommend.

Outstanding Professionalism

I can't rate Jackson-Stops Barnstaple enough. From the initial visit through to the completion, James & Ria were so professional (something that is often lost in these times). Our sale was of a non-standard property and I was worried that we would waste a lot of time but they vetted viewings perfectly. Their communication of viewings, offers, negotiations and the progressing of the legal side was outstanding. We sold "the village in a village" within 3 weeks and completion within a further 15, with Covid-19 and stamp duty pressures adding to the process. This is the first property sale I've ever had (and there have been a few!) where I actually believed the estate agents were working on my behalf. Would definitely recommend!
