As a first time buyer I felt the service was very poor! Sale fell through due to the sellers. Felt like there was an element of trying to persuade me (by the estate agents) into agreeing the sellers wants which I refused. Little to no support for the buyer. Ended up paying over 2k for a property that then fell through. I appreciate the sellers were difficult and that is who pays the estate agents, but very little care for myself as the buyer. I will never sell or buy through Richard James. Disgusted with how I was treated!

I had an appallingly bad experience with Richard James, and I feel compelled to warn others about their unprofessional and unethical practices. From the very beginning, the process of renting a property through them was unnecessarily difficult and stressful. While I understand the need for thorough documentation and credit checks, they made the process needlessly complicated, creating obstacles at every step. Once I moved in, the issues escalated. They failed to provide critical information about the property’s history, the area, or the neighbors, which turned out to be a nightmare. I discovered, only after moving in, that the property had a history of disturbances caused by previous tenants. This history made the neighbors act strangely toward me, and I faced ongoing harassment that severely impacted my peace of mind and forced me to leave the property early. The emotional and financial toll of this experience was enormous. When I ended the tenancy and moved out, they promised to return my deposit within 9 days after the final inspection. Not only has this deadline passed, but they also failed to communicate effectively. I called two days ago and was assured I would receive an update the next day, yet I heard nothing. This lack of professionalism and respect for their tenants’ time is unacceptable. To add insult to injury, they are now attempting to extort money from my deposit. They claimed there were “three small holes” in a bedroom wall, a ridiculous accusation clearly intended to hold onto as much of my deposit as possible. The fact that I had to waste so much time chasing them over the phone, coupled with their baseless attempts to make unwarranted deductions, shows the kind of company they are: unethical, untrustworthy, and focused only on exploiting tenants. This entire ordeal has been one of the worst experiences I have had with a real estate company. From their lack of transparency about the property’s history to their unprofessional handling of my deposit, Richard James has shown nothing but incompetence and a complete disregard for their tenants. I would strongly urge anyone considering renting through Richard James to think twice. There are far better, more reputable agencies out there. Do yourself a favor and avoid the financial and emotional turmoil they bring.

Thoroughly recommend Richard James Estate Agents. James visited and we discussed the market value after having refurbished the property to make it stand head and shouldders above the similar properties on the market nearby. James suggested a value that was correct with his vast knowledge of the area and this was reflected when the property received a full asking price offer at the location ceiling price within a few days. Christopher and the branch team managed the sale from there on keeping us and the buyer up to speed with sales progression and were always available on the end of the phone, or if we just turned up adhoc, they were always welcoming. Sale completed. Would 110% recommend them.

We worked with Beth, Jess, Chris and April. We had our interest on two properties advertised with James Richard. In terms of communication and providing information, I found all colleagues to be extremely helpful. They are flexible and will always do their best to find a suitable slot for both parties consultants and customer to attend viewings. Once we decided for the one property and the procedure was already in triggered, we let the solicitor deal with the documents. After 3 weeks I contacted Premier Solicitor Bedford to get an update where we stand. I had to find out that something was not correct. I found out from my solicitor that there is a delay on the Seller’s side. I didn’t know what to do and reached out to the Agency, they had the contacts of the Seller and reached out immediately. This had to happen two times as there was a dead dot in the communication Seller, Seller’s Solicitor, Buyer’s Solicitor. I was told by my solicitor it would take 6 weeks but whomever I spoke to they assured me it’s 6 months. Now I suppose why it takes so long, because buyers just wait to be contacted. They must be pro-active and enquire. I am so happy that the Agency chased the Seller and things got back on track (twice 😊). I learned a lesson, don’t just wait to hear from the solicitor but be an active member of the chain if you want the deal to close quickly. I truly appreciate all support I received by Richard James Agency. Without their active position we wouldn’t have completed so quickly. We were first-time buyers and absolutely unexperienced, so we required quite many explanations of the steps and Richard James consultants took the time to explain in an understandable language and give the guidelines. I had a brilliantly positive experience and would recommend the Agency forward. Thank you, guys, for all your input and professionalism.

They wanted me to pay 6 months rent upfront and provide a guarantor. I spoke to Simpsons and Weekley instead and they didn't even need me to provide a guarantor, let alone 6 months rent in advance! And the property with Simpsons and Weekley was almost double the monthly rent of the dingy little flat I was interested in renting with Richard James too!
