I've just purchased my first flat with Thomas Syms from Winkworth as the estate agent.When first viewing the property I found Thomas to be very knowledgeable, he could answer all of my questions about the flat and about the wider process. He also made it very easy to schedule two viewings around my busy work schedule.Later in the process Thomas was responsive and helpful. As a first time buyer I found his guidance to be really benficial.I'd definitely recommend his services to anyone in a similar position.

The worst estate agents I've ever rented from

EDIT: Winkworth have asked me to say the branch this took place at, but at one point the managing director used some aggressive tactics to shut us up, and to be honest I want to remain anonymous to Winkworth as they still have my contact details.--I had a terrible experience with Winkworth when I was renting with them. No matter who it was you were speaking to, you were treated like dirt and felt like the lowest priority. Here are some of the things that happened...I moved in whilst the flat was on a rolling tenancy, so when a new flatmate moved in, the inventory wasn't updated and the flat was never checked for cleanliness when a tenant left. I don't know how standard practice this was, but when we all decided to terminate the tenancy, whoever was carrying out the checkout inspection was looking at photos of a completely different flat - different furniture, different carpets. We successfully appealed when they tried to take some of our deposit.One day, I had a knock on the door and it was some painter decorators who had been booked to decorate all our bedrooms. We didn't receive any notice of this, and had to live in our flat with the paint fumes for the next two days.I lived with two other flatmates, and one of them became very violent and aggressive to us. We suddenly felt very unsafe. The police weren't able to do anything, so we went to Winkworth asking for help, and they just said we'd have to sort it out between the three of us. I'm not sure what the practice is around this, but to just brush us off without even being empathetic to our situation was very upsetting. I asked them if they would only step in once we were in bodybags...!There were many other things that happened during my time with them. I wanted to write about some of my experiences over the years I rented with them to make people aware that they really live up to the typical estate agent stereotypes.

Very good experience renting our property via Winkworth in Kensal Rise

From start to end of tenancy Winkworth's in Kensal Rise were a pleasure to deal with. Tenants were found quickly and easily, any issues during the rental period were dealt with immediately by the Michael who manages the properties and communication between all parties was great. Absolutely no complaints with their service at all. Having had a bad experience when working with another local estate it was great to move to this team who were very responsive, dealt with issues straight away and made sure tenant and landlord were all kept happy! thank you

Fantastic experience

We highly recommend Thomas Syms at Winkworth Tooting. As first time buyers we were a little anxious as we started the process however, we needn’t have been. Thomas was absolutely fantastic at guiding us through each step, providing some tips and tricks, and getting us over any hurdles we faced with ease. His communication was fantastic, ensuring both us as buyers and the sellers were in the loop at all times which really eased the tension of what I know can be a stressful period. I would also highly recommend going for his suggested lawyers (we used Setfords), having such seamless communications between solicitors and estate agents made everything easier and faster. We feel really lucky and grateful to have had Thomas and Winkworth as we moved house - thank you!

Most of the time renting can be a nightmare. They never solving problems.... 0 respect to tenats they are just nice liars it's 7mothns raining into the room, they check it and said it's only raining inside when the rain is stronger, so I'm still using bowls for water for 7 months. Boiler is broken now they made a appointment and didn't come over. When My girlfriend called them they said you have been contacted and informed that we come on evening... Nobody called us. Now they made appointment after week, so you can live without heating.. olso they just coming to check not to fix it....

House sale

We were delighted with Winkworth Tooting. Esta, Jo and Charlie all put in alot of work and were professional throughout whilst also understanding the emotional side of selling house. We will use them again (if we move house), and would highly recommend them to others. It started with a visit from Charlie to discuss what we wanted. He listened and always stuck to what we told him. It was a very easy conversation despite Covid and it felt like it wasn't just a numbers game for them. Their fees were competitive and open. Zero negotiation necessary on the fees as he came in at the right price, which was very refreshing and valuation wise he was pretty much spot on as it turned out but also explained exactly why he would put it on at the price he did and other comparisons, he knew the area and was able to judge it well on the day and with research ahead of our meeting. We spoke with a number of other estate agents and they all tried to haggle on their fees and gave different spiels on valuation, it felt a bit cheap really, like we were selling something we didn't really care about. We took our time as we're sure to sell, Charlie touched base a couple of times not in a pushy way but showed he wanted the business. We put it on the market. The survey and brochure were done quickly. Surveyor was in our house for 2 hours and just got on with the job. Brochure was sent to us to get our views on it. Pictures and everything looked great so very happy and no changes. Jo lined up bookings very quickly, we had a few before we were on the market and then some just after being on Rightmove and Zoopla. Within 3 days of being on the market we had offers. I told Charlie and Jo what price we needed to get to to sell and within a day it was done. We took a bit of time to decide as schedules didn't mean we could talk about it for a couple of days but Jo created that time with the buyer for us so we could discuss properly. We accepted the offer. There was a fair bit of back and forth with the buyer on the house details and certificates, services etc. Which all felt s bit intrusive but actually all they are doing is trying to understand what they are buying and making sure they are not making a mistake and we did the same on the house we are buying, so taking a step back each time helps. But Esta and Jo were great at sorting the issues. We had a few issues on completion dates but we got over that with a bit of give on both sides. The agreed price of the house was never negotiable and that was very clear from Winkworth as the niggling points were small. The came completion day and we got the call from Esta saying congratulations! Winkworth made the process as smooth as it could have been and were a pleasure to deal with. Thank you.

Complete waste of time. Was trying to rent a flat through Winkworth and was hounded by the agent for an offer. Put the offer in and turned down other flats. Over a week later was told to go look elsewhere. Highly unprofessional and wouldn't use it recommend them for renters.
