Previous tenant feedback

I have lived in one of Pillar Properties rooms for 2.5 years. The rooms are modern and the staff were very prompt dealing with maintenance issues. Justin was especially friendly in my experience. I also met a lot of young people in the course of living there. Some friendlier than others. On the whole I would recommend renting from Pillar. However, it is important to remember that this is a business for them. Read your contract carefully as they will hold you accountable for everything. Straighten out any gray areas from the start I.e. what constitutes wear and tear and get them to put this in writing before signing/agreeing.No matter how good a tenant you are there is no leeway with them on anything!!! Fundamentally it boils down to money and that became increasingly obvious - particularly towards the end of the tenancy. Moving out was stressful. However, I respect their desire to ensure the properties are kept in a good condition.

Extremely happy with Pillar properties!

It was my first time in the UK (and Reading) starting Jan 2019 and I was fortunate enough to have found Pillar properties. After just 3 or 4 viewings, I finalised a quality ensuite room that I was extremely happy with, thanks to Sam Guze from Pillar - he understood what I needed to a T and showed me rooms accordingly. For the next one and half years while my tenancy was being managed by them, I saw how professional, punctual and helpful they were. I especially want to call out Sam Guze who went out of his way - at least thrice as far as I can remember - to help resolve difficult situations for me. Way to go, guys and all the very best!

Great Agency & Amazing People!

I recently moved out after being a Pillar Properties tenant for a year and I would totally recommend them to anyone. Both the admin and maintenance teams are excellent, and all our issues were resolved quickly. The house was cleaned thoroughly every two weeks as stated in our contract. Special thanks to Ivan who was always there when we needed help.

Excellent service. I was moving to reading from Manchester for the first time, and was super scared of getting scammed (as i have gotten scammed previously), but the team is absolutely amazing and incredibly friendly. I drove down to reading with Ivan standing outside with my room keys and guess what the Houses are SUPER CLEAN, the roommates are all working professionals and super friendly, and the agency is literally one call away incase anything goes wrong. super impressed.

I wish there was an option to give zero stars. I rented a property at 20 South Street, Caversham, and while the location and surroundings were wonderful, my experience with the agency was far from satisfactory. I had read previous tenants' reviews about the agency's poor service but decided to give them a chance, hoping those experiences were subjective. Unfortunately, I encountered similar issues. If you choose to rent with this agency, be prepared for ongoing difficulties. I strongly recommend taking detailed photos of the property during move-in to protect your deposit. In my case, I noticed stains on the mattress and cover upon arrival and immediately contacted the agency to request a replacement. They refused, citing that the stains were minor. However, when I moved out, they deducted money from my deposit for those same stains. When I complained, they produced 'original' photos from the inventory, which were taken when the room was first set up, not from the previous tenant's departure. It's worth noting that the inspector who dismissed my initial complaint was the same person who oversaw my move-out inspection. Additionally, the agency’s micromanagement was intrusive. They even discourage having friends over, as some residents apparently act as informants for the agency. In summary, while the property itself was appealing, the experience with the agency overshadowed any positives. I would caution anyone considering renting with them to be vigilant and document everything meticulously.

Used Pillar as they seemedDeceiving for both landlord and tenant really…

Used Pillar as they seemed really cheap. Little did I know they took advantage of both me and my tenant. Overcharged for small fixes and took all the security deposit. They didn't even know that the tenant had left weeks ago! Charged them for turning off the utilities. I think they would make any excuse to charge the tenant and also the landlord. If you use them, get their "true" pricing!

I am leaving a one-star review because there is no option to leave zero. I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST RENTING from this company. I was a tenant at their 47 Henry Street property for a year and a half, and my experience was extremely unsatisfactory. The property had persistent issues with rats, black mold, and leakage. These problems were only addressed after I contacted the Council. Even then, the solutions were inadequate. Rats continued to infest the walls as the company refused to conduct a thorough investigation. Their response to the mold issue was to paint over the affected areas, and it took months for them to finally address the pipe leakage that was causing the mold, which poses serious health and safety risks. Despite repeated requests, the pest problem persisted, and I found rat droppings in the kitchen cupboards when I moved out. The company’s management was consistently unhelpful and rude throughout my tenancy. Moreover, after leaving an honest review, I was threatened with legal action unless I changed my review to at least three stars. This response further exemplifies their unprofessionalism and lack of accountability.

Do not trust!!

I had seen poor reviews for this company and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. All of the things the bad reviews had said were confirmed when I moved in. A profit-hungry agency which does little to care for its properties or tenants is how I would best describe it. Both my housemates and other people I know renting through them say the same thing. They take advantage of the lack of supply of rental accommodation in Reading, and resultantly exploit customers who have no other options. Very poor response time to issues and repairs, lie about the condition of the property, hidden charges and extra costs involved, attempt to overcharge for everything. An awful company. They need to realise that their actions are immoral, and the wellbeing of their tenants should have even a remote amount of priority in their business. Do not recommend unless you are absolutely desperate.

I'd highly recommend renting from Pillar Properties

I have just moved into a Pillar Properties Houseshare in central Reading and I'd highly recommend renting from Pillar Properties. The rooms are of high standard, well furnished and the staff are extremely prompt, supportive and accommodating to tenants requests. I submitted a maintenance issue and within just a couple of hours, this was resolved. You can tell a lot of care goes into running Pillar Properties and that they genuinely care about their tenants.

Pilar proprieties has been always helpful and available for any tope of inquiry from my side. Especially Sam who managed to help me arranging virtual meetings to show available properties and sending the most crucial documents in very short period of time, my move form other country to UK went very smoothly thanks to him and his team. Pilar proprieties - very recomendable.

Double the charges of usual agency but the service is not outstanding. The rent they projected for the rooms was off by miles. Regular Garden maintenance was also missed.

Very friendly and helpful team. My house share I lived in was really modern. It was beautifully clean and freshly painted when I moved in. The team were so helpful and very quick to respond and resolve when I had to report an issue regarding my en-suite. Would highly recommend

The worst letting agency I’ve ever rented through! Coming into the house whenever they want with no notice INCLUDING during covid isolation time when nobody could leave their homes, they would be doing trips between houses on the same day no mask no gloves! Treating tenants like children, not listening to the issues raised, looking through tenants’ cupboards in the kitchen with no permission to go through personal belongings, ignoring serious utility issues in the house, leaving 6 tenants without washing machine or dryer for over a month with an advise of “wash by hand”!!! Slamming every single door they walk through disregarding tenants’ right to quiet enjoyment, and what’s the funniest - throwing away tenants’ property without permission!!!!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!! On top of that they proposed a rent increase of £125-150 a month!!! Absolute joke of an agency, unprofessional and rude, the handyman could do so much better if they at least watched YouTube videos of how to fix things! Useless!

I have been a tenant with pillar properties for almost four years now. They are by far the best agent in Reading that I have come across both as a tenant and from talking to peers. Firstly they are all very personable, approachable and friendly. It makes a big difference to have someone with a smile and calm nature turn up at your door if there is ever an issue. Although issues rarely occur as they maintain equipment and buildings in the highest order. There are actually two dedicated on site helpers (Justin and Ivan) to fix items and make sure everything is running smoothly. They actually proactively ask is everything okay in the house and is there anything we can do to help. Secondly the administrative team are excellent. Working with them is so easy. They let you know what has to happen, they send you the documentation and they turn things around so efficiently. They too are very polite and personable. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending Pillar Properties to tenants or landlords. If you want to be a happy tenant, where you actually are cared for, then Pillar Properties is the place to be. For landlords if you want a well maintained house with contented tenants then again Pillar Properties is for you.

Contrary to the reviews before me, I had a great experience with Pillar. I’m not trying to mix things up, but you can’t take all reviews at face value. Stayed with them for 1.5yrs and they have been helpful, quick to respond and solve issues. No real fuss from them, and Ivan & team were always ready to help when it was needed. In regards to rent hikes, yes I did have one but it’s normal under current circumstances, and fyi was not near what the last review was quoting. It was reasonable. Overall, I would recommend Pillar. You get a lot of bad estate agents, but I don’t think these guys fit in that category. Thanks Pillar!

Pillar Properties were brilliant when showing me around different properties and tried to find one with people I would get on with. They gave us good notice of any work being done/visits to the property and were polite when communicating with us. The other tenants made it a great house to live in and I would recommend Pillar Properties to others when looking in Reading.

House & maintenance are okay. BUT management literally micromanaged us! I eventually hated living there because of their attitude towards us, because, they wanted us to treat the house like a hotel and only own bare minimum items. They made us all feel depressed as we were not comfortable in our own house… dont rent unless you’re looking for something temporary.

Pillar properties really managed to help me out when I needed a house share. As a young professional, they understood my requirements and matched me with a great house with some nice people. In particular, Sam Guze was a great help throughout and would be on call 24/7 should you have any questions or queries.

I'm very satisfied with Pillar Properties and would recommend them to other landlords with property in the area. I'm kept informed but not bombarded with relevant information, statements are easy to read and rents collected on time, and maintenance issues are dealt with swiftly and without fuss. I know that both my properties and my tenants are being very well cared for. The staff are professional, fair and friendly and provide a reliable and stress free solution to long distance property ownership.

I am a landlord who uses Pillar Properties to let my rooms. I have used other agents but have decided to give all my rooms to Pillar Properties to manage. They understand the rental market in Reading which is a huge benefit to their landlords. The team from admin, maintenance and lettings is professional and friendly. They always keep me updated on viewings, vacating tenants, maintenance issues and maintenance costs. For the last two years my occupancy rate has been sky high. Thank you, Pillar Properties.

Very smooth and engaging move in

Very smooth and engaging move in, the house manager was very supportive and was happy to install new set up for WHF which I really appreciate. Much better than my previous stay also in that housemates are quite friendly and are always attentive. Would recommend housing with them!
