Best Agency for accommodation

I had a great experience with Sam from Pillar Properties while searching for accommodation in the UK. From the very beginning, he made the entire process extremely smooth, comfortable, and hassle-free. Sam was very supportive, professional, and patient throughout the journey. He provided some really good property options based on my requirements and helped me finalize the accommodation with ease. Since I was new to the UK, his guidance and support meant a lot and made the whole experience much less stressful. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE

On Jan 7th we signed our lease and were given the keys to our unit. Per Mickey's approval, we unloaded many plants that we transported from Florida. On that day we unloaded the plants in the backyard, inside, and 4 on the front patio, which consisted of 3 gorgeous desert rose potted plants and a pineapple plant. When we arrived on the morning of the 8th at 7:30am to meet our moving company delivery, we found our 3 potted desert rose plants gone. We both went to the office to let Mickey know that someone took our plants. We both asked her to send out a general email to other residents to see if someone may have seen them being removed. She said she couldn't do that as it might put up a red flag. As movers were moving things in, Mickey called my husband and said the landscapers threw them out and said it was her fault as she directed them to clean up the property for new renters. She then proceeded to tell us we could break the lease and leave. What? This all transpired on the 8th. On the 17th, we dropped off a delivery that was left at our door, for the previous renter. Mickey asked me how I was doing, referencing the heartbreak of my loss plants. She said she was working with management to see about compensation. On the 28th, my husband asked her what the status was for the plants. She said Epic Landscape was working on it. My husband asked why it's taking so long..now 3 weeks later. She said things take time. On the 30th, we made a call to Epic Landscaping. We first spoke to Lisa and explained why we were calling. She said they knew nothing about this. Rob walked into her office and heard the conversation and took over the call. He said he knew nothing about this as well. He said his men would NEVER take potted plants. He said he would call his guys that work the property. He got back to us and said they did not take any plants and Mickey had questioned them the following week and they told her the same. We did not and would not remove potted plants ever. Rob said he was going to call Mickey to find out why she accused his workers. He messaged us yesterday to say he left her a message to call him back. Don't know if they spoke. We went to the leasing office an hour ago and asked Jeff for your number. He said we don't give out her number as it's personal. But now as I write this memo, Mickey just showed up at our door asking us to sign for a $150 gift card, which we refused. We believe this is more than about our plants being stolen that are not replaceable. This is about a woman, the property manager, that blatantly lied to us, accused someone else, the landscapers, for stealing our plants when it obviously is one of our neighbors! We don't feel comfortable living here due to what has transpired. Mickey has told us twice that we can cancel the lease and leave. Who says this to new tenants? We would gladly move forward in looking for a safe and honest residence but it would be at Pillars expense. I hope you see this as serious as we do. Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing back from you.

Staying at 205, Caversham Road, Reading has been an amazing experience, unfortunately, due to the bedbugs infestation prior to me moving in, I had to suffer from physical pain and disturbed mentally because of the bites for 6 months. When infestation was first discovered, my request to Pillar to allow me move out from the proper has been politely rejected due to the “contract policy”. Thankfully, Pillar did provide some ineffective spray treatments and inadequate initial reimbursement fees for purchasing some sprays online which was helpful. And also, being such large property agent company, like Pillar, their department is working and learning hard to be responsive to do the reference check for my new stay which took them 3 weeks to get no reply especially after giving them more than 15 calls and emailed every day. Thank you, Pillar, for making what should have been a simple tenancy a truly unforgettable experience.

I have been staying with pillars properties in Caversham reading for an year now ,and I don't want to leave this room because I truly believe its the best house share experience I have ever had. I am moving out for my personal reasons. The Pillars team is incredibly helpful and always responds promptly to any issues in the house. Whenever we report a problem they addressed it immediately and resolve it within a day. Everything here is well-maintained and in great condition. The heating and oven all work perfectly. The house is also cleaned once in two weeks and the cleaners also clean the freeze freezer & oven ensuring a comfortable and tidy living environment. The worst agency ever! Be careful with your deposit as they don 't give you much back,from £500 they charged me £431. 99,so nothing from my deposit back!!!! Finding problems and they charge you for everything, even if you painted the room, with the right colours. I have 12 years in England, first time that I see this situation. I am very disappointed with Pillor Property. They booked an appointment for a property viewing, and when I was just 5 minutes away from the property, I received a phone call informing me that the property was no longer available. I had already travelled for 40 minutes to attend the viewing, which was a complete waste of my time. This shows very poor planning and lack of consideration for customers. Appointments should be properly managed, and customers should be informed well in advance if a property becomes unavailable. I expected a more professional service.

It’s no doubt the ratings of pillar properties are so low because I have had such a terrible experience. I would give it 0 stars if I could. As part of my contract clause, it said I could pay a fine to terminate my tenancy early and it was confirmed by email through one of their agents called Tom Champion upon moving in. When I notified them, they said they only do this for “extenuating circumstances”. I asked for further clarification where it says in the contract in case I missed it and why I was not told this before and they didn’t seem to answer my question directly. They seem to only care about themselves. On top of the horrendous state of kitchen, i would highly DISCOURAGE ANYONE SEEKING THIS AS THEIR AGENT! If there was a miscommunication, I am more than happy to listen and rethink my opinion but it seems as if they are very uncooperative. (I have edited this review)

I am not sure why the company has low stars when they have been doing excellent jobs in communicating and getting everything ready as I am experiencing moving into the property with them. My best guess is that some people just write to complain, but not many write to appreciate the company. I moved into Reading rather quickly, and Sam and Tom have been amazing in getting everything ready for me, still with the high standards and professionalism in making sure I have all the required paperwork, which shows that they don't just let anyone in without proper procedure. Their communication is top-notch, and they provided me with speedy service, in which they were able to help me get into the property within two days. I think that was incredible. Other than that, they also provided a virtual viewing that was given by Ivan, the staff on the ground, who is also ready to help the tenants with moving and staying. Furthermore, they are still on it even after I moved in and had some questions, so they are not just on it to get people in, but still provide good service to their tenants. The property is well-maintained and clean. When I asked the other tenants who have stayed in the same properties longer before me, they said they have also been pleased with the service and have no complaints. So I really recommend using the service from Pillar Properties, as they also have a lot of options for properties in Reading.

I had a very disappointing experience with this agency. I paid a deposit to secure a room, but due to valid reasons I had to cancel the booking. After that, the communication completely stopped. They didn’t bother to respond to my messages, nor did they take any responsibility for processing the refund. It became very clear that they are only behind the money, not customer service or professionalism. Despite reaching out multiple times, I received no update, no support, and no refund. I strongly suggest avoiding this agency if you’re looking for housing. There are far more reliable and transparent agents out there. My experience with this agency has been nothing but stressful and unprofessional.

I had moved in August 2019 into one of their properties in Reading - overall a positive experience. Good bits: - everything was clear upon checking in. - the agents themselves are friendly and understanding. - react quickly to maintenance issues, they may not answer the emergency phone straight away but they do usually come back to you within a couple of hours. - they choose good tenants, every house mate I’ve had over six years have been from professional backgrounds and I’ve never witnesssed any serious argument or fighting. - over the years communication has improved, and is in a good place now I believe. - when COVID hit they upgraded the broadband due to more tenants working from home. - they actually decreased rent during COVID which they didn’t have to do. - good checkout experience, Ivan checked me out and was very fair, met me halfway on things and communicated the final parts of the check out process clearly. Bad bits: - We had a month without hot water during summer 2021, this was down to a burst pipe in a neighbouring property that was connected with, not directly the fault of Pillars or the landlord but felt it was important to note this. When it happened the first few days information was limited and the house was getting frustrated, after a week things were a lot clearer and we were fortunate that one of the empty rooms in the property did have warm water so we could use that. - upon checkout looking back in the communal areas they do look a bit tired and probably need a lick of paint, however I don’t think again this is directly Pillars issue, just noting over six years that marks or splatters in the wall have become more noticeable.

Sam was speedy and helpful with viewings, and the check-in was smooth. Hayley is a star, on hand to answer all Qs, and completed all the admin seamlessly with quick response times. Ivan, Justin and Stuart are great - always polite and committed to our health and safety. They may come to fix one thing, but will stay to ensure everything else is right/fix anything else they spot. I had an excellent experience with Pillar Properties! Sam was so helpful during the viewings and went out of his way to recommend other properties that I might be interested in. This resulted in me signing the contract for one the properties he recommended. During the whole renting process, Justin and Lyn were so efficient with organising the contract and other supporting documents that I was able to move in within three weeks of signing the contract. The whole team were so helpful with answering any queries and you could tell they were really invested in their tenants. I can't recommend Pillar Properties enough, especially if you're after a quick and easy renting process.

He showed me some options on the day I arrived in Reading, and thanks to him, I could move into my place very fast. I have lived in one of Pillar Properties rooms for 2.5 years. The rooms are modern and the staff were very prompt dealing with maintenance issues. Justin was especially friendly in my experience. I also met a lot of young people in the course of living there. Some friendlier than others. On the whole I would recommend renting from Pillar. However, it is important to remember that this is a business for them. Read your contract carefully as they will hold you accountable for everything. Straighten out any gray areas from the start I.e. what constitutes wear and tear and get them to put this in writing before signing/agreeing.No matter how good a tenant you are there is no leeway with them on anything!!! Fundamentally it boils down to money and that became increasingly obvious - particularly towards the end of the tenancy. Moving out was stressful. However, I respect their desire to ensure the properties are kept in a good condition.
