Hawes did a great job of managing my rented house for over 2 years. They also found some top tenants for the duration. Staff - special mention to Reece my property manager - were excellent in communicating maintenance needs and advising on complying with the new regulations. Hawes & Co look after 5 blocks of flats for us and we are very happy with the service they provide. We work closely with Rosie (the manager) and her colleagues Sara and Kelly in lettings who are all excellent. We have low voids and high levels of renewals across the portfolio which is mainly due to the hard work they put into marketing and looking after the properties and our tenants. The team are brilliant when it comes to communication and handling the rent, where Michelle in accounts is outstanding. We manage the repairs in house but nonetheless work closely with Jeff and the team in the property management department who also do a great job handling tenant enquiries to make sure that the properties are well maintained.

We experienced poor handling towards a potential buyer which led to them contacting us independently, post sale-failure. The buyer described the interactions to us and offered communication screenshots. From that information we believe Hawes and Co didn’t act in our best interest, and made decisions and acted without instruction. The alleged aggressive sales strategy by Richard led to the sale breakdown and was covered by blaming the buyer. There isn’t a logical reason to doubt the buyer, they have progressed elsewhere. We completed the house sale with a different agency.

Sarah Walker at the Surbiton branch was wonderful to work with on the sale of our property. There was no hard sell or telling us what we wanted to hear. In a challenging sales market, Paul M at Hawes & Co (Wimbledon) showed patience, resilience and skill to navigate the sale of our property on our behalf. My house had failed to sell in the hands of other local estate agents, but when placed with Hawes and Co (Surbiton) Sarah suggested and explained a price that was realistic for the current market, and ensured that we had many viewings. Sarah was unfailingly helpful, down to earth, professional and business-like at all times, and kept up a constant stream of viewings, which resulted in several interested parties. The final stages of the sale were protracted due to issues with the eventual buyers, Sarah also helped them enormously, to keep going and not give up, and a successful completion was achieved. I highly recommend the Surbiton office of Hawes and Co, who have helped me through the process so well.

Our experience as tenants in a house managed by Hawes and Co was actually rather pleasant and we were sad to leave a lovely rented house which we needed whilst we were purchasing another property. The property was well managed and maintained during the tenancy, special mention to Jackie who was communicative, helpful and timely with all requests. This experience was tainted however at the end of our tenancy when the dreaded end of tenancy clean and inventory had to be conducted. As a property owner and landlord myself, I have seen how estate agents and property managers operate depending on whether one is a tenant or the landlord. To say as tenants we were treated with contempt by none other than the head of property management would be an understatement. We found the above to be disingenuous , curt and deceitful during the end of our tenancy. We left the rented house cleaned to a professional standard as only one should and even had this confirmed by the independent inventory clerk the following day. The check in and check out inventories showed the same standard of cleaning, however the property manager found a way to claim an immoderate amount for 'professional cleaning' by amending the inventory and then having the gall to ask if we accept the charges. Obviously, we disputed this and after hours of collecting evidence for and completing the application for the Tenancy Deposit Scheme dispute, we were happy that the independent body upheld our dispute and returned the majority of what was excessively clawed back from our deposit for 'further cleaning'. The head of property management's intent on betterment for the landlord was palpable from the moment she intervened in our moving out process. I feel sorry for any tenants who ever have to go through an experience such as this at the hands of greedy and untrustworthy property managers and landlords. As a result, we will never use Hawes and Co again in any capacity and would strongly recommend any tenant to keep a log of evidence for their own protection. The Tenancy Deposit Scheme is there for a reason.
