Avoid for lettings

Like a lot of other landlords on here, I ended up with Chestertons when they bought the management company I signed up with. It was not a great experience. When the tenant didn't pay, this was intermittent for a while, and eventually moved out I decided to take back the flat. I sent a courier for the keys several times, they said the courier didn't arrive to collect. I have proof DHL went to the office. They eventually sent my keys in a paper envelope and one set was of course lost when it fell out of the useless envelope. All the while the contact with them was difficult due to lack of experience or just plain not caring. When we did use our own set of keys, we found all the windows to the flat left open, in December! Luckily it's not on the ground floor. The kindest I can be is to call them useless, another side of me would say they are dismissive and have questionable care for people's property. They are now calling me to ask if I want to let with them again. So they're not much good at checking previous files and lettings either. Avoid!In answer to below, I did go back to Chestertons, but as this review makes clear there is nothing to be done now. The keys are still lost and the unanswered calls remain.

Terrible service to Landlords’ and Tenants’

Chesterton’s is the third property agent I have used. I have been with them for two years since they bought out the agent I was working with for over 15 years. The experience has been appalling for me as landlord and my tenants. I am not sure if it is incompetence or that the team is understaffed and they cannot cope with the number of properties they manage. My contract said they would inspect the property twice a year. They have only been once in the two years. Communication has been frustrating. Emails unanswered, messages left with no call back. Issues with the tenants left until the tenants got understandably hysterical. (And then they have the gall to charge a % fee for any repair work). In short the last two years have been the most stressful in 20 years of letting. Big clearly is not better! Don’t believe the guff about how professional they are.
