Selling our property with an agent called Tom. Might have had a crossed wire over communication, so when my partner said she was waiting to hear back from them their end, Tom proceeded to bicker over whose responsibility it was to get in touch. INCREDIBLY unprofessional. On viewings they (Nicole I think) turn up with the buyer and simply stand in the corner. No proactivity whatsoever. She always seems really friendly, don't get me wrong, but she just stands in the corner and just nods away at whatever anyone says. Zero effort to sell the property. All other estate agents i been with have seemed to sell any good points on the property, lead the viewing, offer to answer any questions etc but no, nothing from Chancellors. Just stand and nod. One occasion a new starter was sent to conduct a viewing. She seemed nice and actually procative but I was shocked when SHE started to complain to the potential buyer about the distance to town! UNBELIEVABLE! I complained about this to a senior office manager who seemed to think i was stupid as he spent the entire time talking about it without actually saying anything. We have had to step in and do their job for them and offer to answer any questions to potential buyers. I complained about this and was talked at in circles , given a million excuses as to why the agents do nothing on viewings. I got tired of listening to him and agreed to disagree - only for head office to call a few weeks after and completely agreed with what I'm saying ( i get the feeling the reading branch have gotten so many complaints that head office has had to step in) Been trying to sell our flat with them for a while now. No luck. From our various calls you really get the impression they do the bare minimum. Lots of occasions where they dont follow through on confirmation calls, feedback calls etc basically seems like a complete shambles in their offices. You're supposed to get a call a week to update you on the stats, but sometimes they cant even be bothered to do that. When they DO call, they just pestered us to bring the price down, ensuring us we'd see a significant change in views. We finally brought the price down and yep, no change in views. You express you dissatisfaction and you're always hit with the same 'we're sorry you feel that way' stock answer. Really feels like an office of young, cocky comission chasers. On our call today we asked what was being done to get views and all we got was ' we're sending emails'. Couldnt tell us how many, not even an approximate number. We're now looking into ending our contract with them and going elsewhere. AWFUL experience. update: Danni got in touch after asking for my contact to tell me she cant deal with my complaint and would need to get someone from a different department...then refered me there. UPDATE: After handing our notice in to leave their services, all activity dropped to zero. We asked since it was apparent they would not put any further effort in to selling our property that they just let us go early. We spoke with Marc Williams (regional director) who agreed, but AS LONG AS WE AGREED TO NOT LEAVE ANY BAD REVIEWS ON FACEBOOK OR TRIP ADVISOR. Wow! not just shoddy service but BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL. So essentially trying to bully us into not reporting what awful service we've had. I did talk about this with head office and they already knew about it but agreed it was defintely not the call they would have made. They could have just let us go and left it at that, instead they just kicked us a little more. She assured us, that obviously, we would be free to express our dissatisfaction however we chose. Although head office did a decent job at expressing their concern, there should be some sort of disciplinary action for trying to manipulate clients this way. In all not just the worst estate agent we've ever dealt with but easily one of the worst 'professional' organisations we've ever dealt with.NegativeQuality, Professionalism, Value

I moved into a flat recently and chancellors lied to me about a number of things, my flat is £750 a month plus bills. They said there was heating and gas connected and they lied, multiple times in writing, they also forgot to write in tenancy that they gave my neighbours upstairs a key to my property to access my flat whilst I'm out, they lied about this over and over again until the neighbours actually locked me in my own flat because they 'arent comfortable with my background and me being on benefits' (one of the male students was caught peering through my window as I changed and weirdly chancellors have tricked me and caused me to be completely suicidal due to what they have done to me, I got this place in seek of refuge and chancellors EXPLOITED me.

We had a viewing booked on a property in chalgrove 2 weeks ago - we had arranged childcare and were on our way to the viewing to then receive a phone call from the branch saying the viewing was cancelled as the property was already under offer and had been for over 2 weeks - when I asked why they accepted our viewing request they couldn’t give me an answer. Over the next couple of days I phoned up multiple times about visiting other properties they were listing, and was always told “I’ll get someone to call you back”. Never heard anything. Would absolutely avoid this estate agency. Totally unreliable and unprofessional and wasted lots of our time. Luckily we’ve found a gorgeous new home with another agency

There is no communication between your departments. You don't get back with a phone call when you say you ll do! Everytime I have a question no one knows how to answer!

I recently had a very positive experience with Chancellors whilst purchasing my first property. Jack Woodhouse (Reading branch) was my point of contact and he made sure I understand every step of the process as a first time buyer. His communication was great, he replied to my queries in a timely manor and gave me confidence throughout the purchasing journey. Thank you!

Jayne Morris - Jayne first dealt with the letting of my house when she worked in Kington Office but then she moved to Chancellors head office but I am very pleased she is still looking after my property as I am more than happy with how professional and courteous Jayne is. Any matter arising with regards to my property is always dealt with immediately and I know I can rely on Jayne.

My review is specific to the lightwater branch. Bad mannered, unprofessional and incompetent are the words I would use to describe the staff. They found me buyers back in June who have still not signed their contracts along with the buyer at the bottom of the chain. There are 4 others in the chain above and we have all signed and are ready to exchange contracts. The managers have not replied to the last 2 emails I sent asking them to get this resolved. The whole process since signing up with them has been far from satisfactory. Wrong price on the house, wrong details and a complete disregard for me as a customer. The manager, in particular, seems to think it is beneath her to deal with customers once they have signed up. I have never dealt with a company before who refuse to answer emails from their customers. My job involved dealing with estate agents and in 15 years I never came across behaviour like this. I wish I never signed up with them.

Worst experience to date in Reading. First they tried to sell some unnecessary extra legal package, then never answered any emails, then send some totally useless automatic "statistics", then continued spamming me long after the contract was over despite unsubscribing to all their emails... all show, no action. Have tried other much more professional estate agents in Reading and London.

Gareth went above and beyond to help us sell our home in less than a week. We were under pressure for a quick sale, and Gaz found us the right buyers for the right price- we couldn't be happier. His service was excellent and he even came out to do a viewing on a Sunday afternoon to help secure the sale. Will definitely be recommending Chancellors to everybody!

This company seem to think they operate by different standards than other estate and letting agents. Had a bad experience when purchasing our home through them as they would not take our house off of the market until the moment we exchanged. And now trying to rent a property through them, they delayed getting back to me for so long the house I was interested in has been let and they wouldn't consider me anyway as I am reliant on my ex husband to pay the rent as I am a stay at home mum with 2 small kids despite other companies being happy with him as a guarantor. Would never deal with this company again.

Jack Woodhouse has dealt with various viewings through Chancellors, in fact all of my recent viewings. He has been nothing short of brilliant! He has kept me informed at all times and does everything by the book, communication has been outstanding. He had a lovely manner and has remained courteous the whole way through and made a stressful time so much easier. Well Done Jack and thank you!

AVOID. Absolutely terrible service. 4 days before I was due to move in to a property which I had already paid a deposit and first month’s rent for, as well as having signed a contract, I was told the property had been sold so I could no longer move in. I was never even informed that the property was up for sale. This was over a week ago and despite phoning every day and speaking to 6 or 7 different people at Chancellors I have still not been refunded any of my money!

My sister put a deposit and first months rent of £1130 on a house to rent (also signed a contract) , 4 days before she was going to move in they told her the property had sold, they did not inform her the property was even for sale. They still haven’t refunded her any of her money which they said they would in 3-5 working days (now been well over that) She has now had to use all of her months wages for the deposit and first months rent on another property (with a decent estate agent) and has informed them of this and they just keep fobbing her off! Absolutely disgusting company! AVOID

Absolutely useless in property management. I’m not sure what service I’m getting for the astronomical fee they’re charging but I’m starting to think I can do a better job managing the property myself from Australia. It’s taken Chancellors 3 months to get a gas safety certificate passed and with poor communication to contractors, it’s costing me more money because guys turn around up to the property “without the right part” for the job. High staff turnover is also a sign of the rotten culture. Avoid this firm like the plague.
