GoogleRenting from Chancellors East Oxford was one of the worst experiences I've had with a company. Having signed a short let Chancellors gave us a single month's notice after one month's rental, citing the landlord's desire to have us vacate. When we queried this, as it's in contravention of the 2 month period given to Assured Shorthold Tenancies, we were told that our contract was not in this category. Chancellors had just made up a random housing contract that aimed to deprive tenants of the protection offered by UK law, and refused to accept my insistence that this was the case. They refused to protect our deposit, which is also illegal. I had to make a storm on public media and complain to their central office before I got to someone who knew what the law was, and who would behave properly, fulfilling their obligations. They protected our deposit, acknowledged the status of our tenancy and refunded our initial fee.
When we got in touch with the landlord directly they were startled to find that we had been given notice, and contacted Chancellors to insist that we could stay for longer. It seems like Chancellors were just seeking the fees. And it cast suspicion on their behaviour towards the previous tenants, who had also left without wanting to. Had they been sold the same trick?
Late in our tenancy, when the landlord wished to sell the house, they arranged for numerous visits by prospective buyers, surveyors, etc. without informing us. We aimed to facilitate these visits, but on some occasions weren't able to agree to be in for an appointment, and didn't want them to enter without us present. On one occasion, they were on the point of illegally entering the house with their key when my partner got to the door. In other instances they arranged appointments and then harassed us to let them in without having given any notice. When I insisted that this was unfair and illegal, they made it clear that we were an inconvenience to their sale and as renters were considered beneath legal protection, respect or politeness.
Chancellors East Oxford combine ignorance, greed and malevolence in a poisonous combination, and I'm sorry ever to have had the misfortune of encountering them. My partner and I spent countless hours in tears during this period, and several more on the phone to the homelessness charity Shelter, who helped us.
I detest Chancellors East Oxford, and recommend you never venture anywhere near, especially as a rental customer.

GoogleI dealt with Owen Robinson at the chancellors east Oxford branch this year whilst searching for a property in cowley and the service received was exceptional!
I was always kept up to date with any information I needed (which on Owens part) was often above and beyond the call of duty.
The rest of the team were also very helpful in any queries I raised even if the right person was not in the office.
Great service would highly recommend the whole team!

GoogleChris Kilkenny has been the most fantastic support in helping me get settled in to the new rented flat. He has come round to have a look at the minor changes that needed to be made at the flat and it has never been a problem for him. He has always got back quickly and efficiently to emails. I lost the keys to the flat and on calling him it was no problem for him to assist me in lending me the office set of keys. He was always very friendly and kind and very easy and comfortable to be around.
On a separate note Chris is also a highly experienced interior designer having trained in this field. He offered me his expertise in designing the layout of the flat. He did not charge me for this service but was happy to come 3 times to assist. He has a very good eye for detail and you can see that he has a real skill in this area.
I would really recommend going to Chancellors/
I would also on a separate note like to recommend Chris as an Interior designer

GoogleI just wanted to thanks Paul and Joe at Chancellors for the incredible service I received whilst selling my house.
Joe visited us on the Saturday and was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and supportive. He promptly organised a photographer and gave us a good valuation.
Paul then arranged 7 viewings on the Monday for the next day. By the end of the viewings we had sold the property.
Paul and Joe then continued to communicate regularly to manage the process for us.
It was a very smooth and easy process and I recommend Chancellors for anyone selling in Oxford/Oxfordshire. They have exceptional local knowledge and a customer base of potential client which is huge compared to any other agencies.

GoogleI have used Chancellors in East Oxford for many years, both for sales and rental all of which have been excellent for me. In sales I would like to thank Ravi, Joe and Maria who have helped me greatly.
For rental I would like to say thank you to Julian but especially to Rachel for her on-going support and help for the management of the property rental. Rachel is always happy and nothing is too much trouble for her. Thank you so much Rachel, you are a star and have helped me through what would otherwise have been a daunting experience, you deserve to be recognised for this.

GoogleUPDATE 29/03/2021: So after being forced to pay this money which can only be classed as theft, I get an e mail from credit control saying I owe the money again! I warn everyone, this branch is as shady as they come. I was lied to and scammed out of £350 and so will you be. WARNING, these people can not be trusted , we were told no credit checks will be carried out by an agent in the flesh and again on the web chat but now they are trying to steal almost £400 from me! Opening a complaint with PRS as one has to wonder how many other people have they stolen or attempted to steal from? Case ongoing and will update but approach at your own peril

GoogleWe were involved with Chancellors for 2 years as tenants in a student house share. I would strongly discourage any students in Oxford to rent via this agency.
Communication for e.g. repairs was highly difficult with this agency. The agents were not very responsive via email. Despite notifying them several times that my preferred method of communication is email they called me many times, sometimes several times a day to just double check or confirm something. As PhD student I work in a laboratory and do not always have service or can answer. If you then miss the call, you will be looped through queues to headquarters etc. to hopefully at some point speak to an agent, but you will need to try several times often. At some point we stopped communicating via them and only directly with the landlord, as it was quicker and easier.
Often there are miscommunications within the agency, for instance we are still getting arrears reminders months after we moved out, despite having confirmed we payed the sum months ago. For some reason we also did not have a tenancy contract (only periodic extensions) in our second year living there and our landlord when asked did not know about this.
When we moved in the property was "professionally cleaned" but not clean at all. A decent agency will automatically share the move in report with you and give you the opportunity to agree or disagree to the noted state of the property. This is not their lawful obligation as far as I am aware, but they skipped this step which caused us quite a headache when we moved out. At some point in the tenancy they lost their set of keys and we had to make new ones for them. Overall I had the feeling they were only interested in making the landlord happy, and have minimum work with us while maximising the money to get out of us. (I guess that is the business model of lettings agencies as they are payed by the landlords, but it doesn't need to be quite so obvious.)
Again, I would strongly recommend to rent from a different agency, esp. as a student in Oxford.NegativeResponsiveness, Professionalism, Value

GoogleI have a client that bought a property through this Branch of Chancellors and it was a horrible experience. The client was a first time buyer and they were put under immense pressure by the agents to complete ASAP especially when there was a lot of faffing in the beginning of the purchase. The agents constantly threatened that my client would lose out on the property if they did not keep chasing the solicitor, putting my client under extreme stress.NegativeQuality, Professionalism

GoogleI have just completed the purchase of a property being marketed by Chancellors - East Oxford. This proved protracted and very drawn out, however I found Ellanor Jones very helpful and responsive in helping get it over the line.
She was easy to get hold of and always returned my calls. She was very willing to help push things along and very co-operative and helpful in chasing the other side. I felt she got the big picture (getting the deal done) and recognised the need to move at pace. If only the lawyers had the same approach..
She has a friendly and calm professional manner; much appreciated. In my professional career (retired Chartered Surveyor), I have instructed and managed a large number of agents over the years. I know a good one when I see one. Well done and thank you.PositiveResponsiveness, Professionalism

GoogleChancellors are professional, efficient and mostly what I liked is their team work. I dealt with 3 staff from chancellors, each with his/her own expertise. Working together, they provided 1st class services. I also appreciated that I was informed and updated regularly on their progress.
Result: the sale of my house just happened so smoothly within targeted time scale.
Well done Chancellors, special thanks to Paul and Hassan. keep it up!

GoogleJulian Dando was a joy to work with. My husband and I needed a flat for immediate occupancy, and Julian was quite mindful of our desire to move quickly. He was very fast to respond to my initial inquiry about a property, scheduled a viewing the same day, and we had an application submitted a day later. He also was accessible for questions throughout the application process, and was very patient with us.
