Chancellors is indeed one of the best or even the best Letting Agency in the UK, especially with Oxford. The range of properties that they have is extremely large which can fit all kinds of criteria. Special thanks to Jordan who works for the East Oxford branch. He was amazingly helpful throughout my journey of finding a 1 bed apartment. My partner and I are moving from London to Oxford due to work, the news were unexpected and we needed to find a home asap. I was expecting a lot of stress finding a place to live but our experience has been excellent so far. We had a couple of viewings and meeting with Jordan and Steven. They seemed very professional, they listened, understood our needs and found us a house that ticked all our boxes. The paperwork process has been smooth so far and we received the good news just a day after we sent all the information needed. If you find yourself in a urgent situation where you need to find housing quickly like us, I cannot recommend enough this agency, especially Jordan and Steven. They are very knowledge about their properties and extremely helpful.

After six weeks we were told we “don’t meet the requirements" for the property we applied for. My partner and I applied for a property we found online. When emails went unanswered, I visited the branch and spoke with Senior Lettings Executive Jordan Gibbs. We completed all the paperwork; Mr. Gibbs said the landlord liked our application and began referencing checks. Then, silence for a month and a half. Despite follow-ups, the only update was a brief email: “You don’t meet the requirements.” No explanation, no apology, and no prior mention that this property had specific income thresholds. We paused our search while waiting and lost valuable time. Overall, the lack of transparency and communication was deeply unprofessional. Clear upfront disclosure and timely updates would have avoided this experience.

Notice that the 5 star reviews are from people who bought houses from Chancellors, not those who rent. I would never recommend anyone rent from Chancellors if they can go with anyone else. Not responsive to emails, ignore serious problems when begged to fix them, did not update our rental contract with new tenants’ names despite being emailed night and day about it and then made our life a nightmare because of this when we tried to claim our deposits back when we left the property. Got to the point we would speak to the landlord and ask him to lobby Chancellors, rather than the other way around. My experience as a tenant with this letting agency was one of the most politcally eye-opening experiences of my life regarding how tenants are treated in this country. It was awful for my mental health. Avoid.

I am taking back my five star review for Chancellors and leaving a 1 star review. Very easy to deal with initially, but since we took up the tenancy there has been nothing but problems. The house was given to us unclean and undecorate, both which were specified in our pre-tenancy agreement. Please avoid this letting agent. Very straightforward dealing with Chancellors as a tenant. Clear and concise communication with a personal touch. Reccomend particularly Steven Sarbatta, pleasure to deal with him and made a very stressful process much more personable.

EDIT: Choosing to try and rent with Chancellors East Oxford was a huge mistake. Their poor communication and reneging on an offer they had made us was extremely stressful. On a Thursday, we were offered a rental. I emailed the agent, Helen, to ask whether it was fully locked in and whether we could stop searching elsewhere. She responded that we could stop looking elsewhere because we had successfully secured this rental and that everything was fine. FIVE days later, on Tuesday, I get a call and email from Helen apologising and explaining that the "landlord changed their mind" at the last minute, and that we did not have the place anymore. With my university course due to start in less than two weeks, this was very stress-inducing, to hear that our house-hunting mission was back to square one. Overall a very bad experience, would not recommend. Helen did seem friendly, and I am not angry that the landlord changed their mind (if that is actually what happened), as that may be out of the agent's hands. However, Helen should not have told us that everything was fine and that we could stop looking elsewhere, as it was because of this that we lost 5 days worth of hunting for other places. As an international student that hasn't rented in the UK before, stronger communication from the agency was needed. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We had a wonderful experience dealing with Helen who made the process of finding a place to rent very smooth and easy. She was very responsive to our calls and requests for a video of the house, as we were unable to be there in person to view it. Within 24 hours of contacting her, we had locked in a place that we were happy with.
