Do not allow these in your property.

Please do not use. These are terrible, rude, heavy handed and disrespectful surveyors. Two surveyors turned up to my elderly parents property during lockdown, my parents agreed to a 15 minute appointment in which 1 surveyor would be present. My parents agreed in the understanding that they could stand in the garden whilst the survey was carried out. Two surveyors turned up to the property and were present together during Covid restrictions for over 2 hours! I believe Connells withheld information regarding the appointment to gain access to my parents property. They would, in the restrictions, never have agreed to 2 people being in their house for a prolonged period of time. They were disrespectful and very heavy handled. Pulling and dragging at windows and walls, to the point my mum was in tears. I am surprised they did not cause damage. My father is partially sighted and they are quiet people. They were treat terribly. I placed an official complain to which the response was complete denial! Insulting my parents as being liars!! Stay well clear if this company. Do not give these people your money. But most importantly, I plead, DO NOT agreed to these people entering your property.

A despicable company. AVOID AVOID AVIOD!

My personal experience is: that once connells have your contact details, they simply will not leave you alone, should they see potential profit in contacting you. Your wishes will be ignored.I seldome leave negative reviews, but this, in my humble opinion, is well deserved.A recent quote fro Elon Musk, may be appropriate...

Terrible agent

Terrible agent! My agent has been unprofessional starting from the flat viewing stage. Made mistakes on the contract (contracting starting date, move in date etc), being difficult about me opting out the 'default' energy supplier, not being helpful to solve the problems unless I challenged them from legal perspectives. Even though I opted out that energy supplier, I still got a bill from them! And they are reluctant to help whatsoever. It is a pain to deal with such terrible letting agent!

SELLERS BEWARE

SELLERS BEWARE! WHY I CANCELLED WITHIN 14 DAYS:- They only care about you instructing them. - They will OVERVALUE your property to make you happy and tell you you'll sell quick, do not believe it.- If you say you're unhappy you will be told by James the branch manager that he disagrees rather than apologising. - If you're told you'll get a call with feedback, don't expect to get the call. - They allowed a family of 5 (3 children) into my home, inc the agent, myself and my parterner that makes 8, the current government rules is 6 people. The children were running around my garden and touching a lot around my house. Gives me no faith in the control they maintain (or lack thereof) during viewings and I would NEVER let them show someone around without me there.- If you complain about something (such as the above) they will not reply to your email, apologise or even acknowledge your complaint. - For the 1.2% they want in fees you'd expect some sort of common courtesy and a reasonable level customer service, you wont get it.- If you say you're considering cancelling within the 14 day cooling off period, they won't ask what they can do to keep your business, they will just let you go, showing they don't really care about their customers or business and they only want you to instruct them for their numbers. We cancelled within our 14 day cooling off period after the property being live for less than a week and have decided to take the purplebricks route so we can handle everything ourselves because they gave us no faith in the service they provide.Lesson learnt. I will be avoiding Connells as a seller and as a buyer.

Couldn't even attend a property viewing

I booked a property viewing, confirmed on the site, made an account as they requested to confirm it again, and yet they felt the need to call me four hours before the viewing when I was busy to confirm it yet again. And since I didn't pick up the phone, they assumed I was not attending and bailed on me. I spent a lot of time, effort, and money to arrive there, but somehow they felt like I was a customer wasn't worth their time.

Low quality surveyors

Over the past 3 years, have had 2 valuations carried out by Connells:The first (a buy to let remortgage) said that the tenancy agreement didn't look correct and we would be lucky to achieve a rental of £2,500 per month - we've just completed 2 years with a rental of £2,850 per month. The second valued a property at almost £70k below an exact same property in the block that had sold for a month previously They clearly employ poor quality surveyors with no experience and low intelligence. Unless you're forced to use this company by a bank (request an alternative) avoid.I can only assume they're the cheapest on the market.

Unprofessional and not trust worthy

I arranged to rent a flat which the tenancy would start on 3rd of October. I was told that the tenant will leave the property on 30th of September. I called them on the 2nd of October in order to arrange a time to hand me the keys for the moving. They then informed me that the current tenant still hasn't given back the keys and refuses to leave. I asked what should I do since I had arranged to leave the property I currently live in order to move to the new property. Simply their response was that was my problem and they can't do anything. I asked why wasn't I informed for that earlier the tenant should have left the property at least 3 days ago and they said that they didn't know... I asked for my deposit back, as I wanted to find a different flat since there is no guarantee that the tenant will leave and they refused... Verdict: they postponed my moving in day, they cost me £40 per day (£600 so far) as I have to rent a hotel room to stay and refused my deposit back... Never again with Connells...

Appalling from Start to Finish

Genuinely the worst Estate Agent we had to deal with during our property search and one half of the reason we missed our completion date - on the actual day of completion.Firstly their properties are massively over valued hence why they generally stay on the market for longer than they should. They give sellers an unrealistic expectation of what they can achieve. Speaking to a neighbour and friend who both had Connells round to value their house backs this up as the valuation given was significantly above what other agents valued them at.Secondly and most importantly they actually block potential buyers from viewing your house by demanding that they speak to their in house mortgage consultant before they can arrange a viewing. We were told we needed a DIP before viewing a house - was the only agent who asked for this (and we've viewed almost 20 houses with various agents) and then when I arranged this with my provider they said that I would still need to speak to their in house consultant before offering on the house to "sense check" the numbers - essentially saying I could have lied about the numbers to my provider! They claimed the vendor insisted on this however my understanding from other buyers are that they are saying this to everybody. I learnt later that staff commissions are actually paid on selling mortgages rather than houses hence the aggressive tactics. Most unfortunately our buyer chose to use Connells as their mortgage consultant. The mortgage offer took an age to come through - I completely understand we're in Covid times and everything takes longer however we ourselves had our main offer through and also a revised offer before our buyer had theirs, and ours took longer than normal. Also bear in mind that we applied for ours two weeks after the buyer had their offer accepted on our house... As it turned out Connells had put the wrong solicitors details on the buyers offer. So even when it eventually came through the solicitors side went to the wrong place. Cannot even get the basics right.Lastly our buyers solicitor (JS Law) were terrible throughout the process, together with Connells (due to the mortgage offer) they managed to miss our completion date on the actual day, meaning at least 4 people in the chain had to pay twice for removals services. We strongly suspect that Connells recommended the solicitors to the buyer although we have no proof of this.Appalling from start to finish. My recommendation to potential sellers would be to avoid Connells like the plague and pray your buyer has nothing to do with them either!

Incompetent time wasters

Initially they were great. They talked the talk. Had no problem ‘selling’ our house. The follow up was awful though. We had an offer accepted on a property that we had fallen in love with at the beginning of February 2020, having ‘sold’ ours with Connells. Great. Not a lot happened over those few weeks as the buyers were apparently getting their mortgage in place. Then lockdown happened and so we expected that things may go a bit slower but we were all sorted paperwork wise on the other side on the house we were buying. So we hoped that once lockdown was lifted we would all be ready to move.No communication from Connells whatsoever. And then in June we found out actually our buyer didn’t have a mortgage in place and had pulled out.We were gutted but we went straight back on the market and made it clear to Connells that we must have a buyer that has a mortgage ready and be able to move fast. Again it ‘sold’ in under a week but they clearly didn’t do all their checks/ and or lied to us because again a couple of weeks later still no mortgage. So we pulled out and told them again, find us a suitable buyer. In the meantime the people from the house we were buying are becoming increasingly frustrated as you can imagine.Backwards and forwards, the people were having trouble getting a mortgage (which they should’ve had in place already for agreement to the sale! Again we were misled!!!) finally had a survey done at end of august then to be told 2 weeks later they are taking 6 weeks to action.Monday 28th September buyer can’t afford the mortgage and is pulling out.We have lost the house we were buying. Not to mention time, money and lots of stress. So angry and do not recommend these incompetent time wasters at all!!!

Bought a house from Ashley Adams Derby…

Bought a house from Ashley Adams Derby part of Connells ... the only reason this is a one star is because the lady who did my mortgage was great. The rest of the staff were awful and quite rude. They pressure you to sign up to their processes and chosen conveyancer ... No correspondence throughout once the sale had been agreed, I was left in the dark for the entire sale with no contact for at least 3 months. Even on the final day of contracts been exchanged I wasn’t contacted and when collecting the keys, they were merely in an envelope by the door. No customer service and no compassion!

Terrible experience

We paid for a mortgage broker service with WH Brown 5 years ago and then were contacted by Connells when our term was up (assuming they’ve taken over). Had one telephone appt with one guy, sent all documents through then arranged another for 2 weeks later as the guy was on leave. I put the appt straight in my phone so sure I got the time right. Anyway, the day came and he never rang (I had 11am in my phone), he didn’t ring until 1pm and by then I was busy with work. Finally spoke to them and gave them the benefit of the doubt and rearranged to 4pm the following week with a different person as the original guy was on leave again. Received 2 text messages and an email from the guy (Anthony) confirming appt at 4pm. 4pm came and no call until 4:35pm which I did not answer. Then sent an email to Anthony explaining his cock up to which he replied ‘I’ll check what’s happened because it was definitely in my diary for 4;30pm’ even though he sent me an email from his own account detailing the appt was at 4pm!!! Now our buyers are using them for their mortgage and trying to arrange a valuation of our property with them and once again they are rubbish. They can’t speak to me apparently because they never took our details down at the start of the process. Avoid!!!!!

Lorries from Connells was amazing

Never been with Connells before, so far so good. Got shown around by a wonderful person called Lorrie. Had all the questions answers when we arrived to see the property. Gave us all the information, soon as she told us everything we fell in love with the property and my wife and I staying here long term. Can’t fault Connells.

Incompetent

Incompetent. Made an offer on a property, which they wrote up and sent me an email confirming my offer etc. After that, I didn’t hear from them again. I made numerous phone calls over the space of a few weeks to chase it up (was it accepted or not?, do I keep looking? And so on...). Nothing. This was about 8 months ago. Started looking elsewhere, then obviously lockdown happened. Since lockdown I have started looking again. Tonight I went to a viewing I had booked in via email (I have the email thread to prove it) and the viewing agent never showed. So I called the office and they had forgotten to book it in (this is a different branch to the first incident as well). Absolute joke of an estate agents. Will NEVER sell a property with them, and am reluctant to buy through them too.

Poor service and do the bare minimum required

Paid for a full building survey - got 3 hours of their time which resulted in 6 photos (apparently this is the company standard so I shouldn't complain) but lots of sitting on the fence with issues that they couldn't really comment on in detail. Wrote back to ask questions to fill in the gaps and was essentially fobbed off with arguments as to why the survey was done to their standards. When we chose them we had said there was an outbuilding which also needed surveying and was told this would be included, the surveyor on questioning literally wrote 'the level of inspection to the outbuildings is lower than that to the main property'. Really unhelpful and to be honest rude. They don't spend the time they should, make no efforts to survey where there is they slightest obstructing issue and do not care about customer service, just that they have done the bare minimum.

This agency is grossly unprofessional

This agency is grossly unprofessional, heading for collapse and clutching at straws. They misrepresent reality and play both sides of the fence, trying to sweeten both landlord and tenant with well crafted lies. They record arrears on rent even if you have paid your rent in advance and on time. During Covid-19, they did not even bother to call to and check on not even a single one of their tenants to see how they were coping. All they worry about is the rent and that the property is in good state. They schedule visits at random and inconveniently and they hardly schedule repairs for defective and unhealthy breakages or slippery/sliding carpets. If you ask for many repairs they craftily author a section 21 eviction and issue you with a notice. Very slimy. The agency reps are clueless and do not read the legislation, only misinterpreting the parts that suit their greed. Please steer far from Connells.

Not to be trusted

They lied to us. Telling us we would be the first person to view the property and would call us as soon as we could make an offer. They never called, I always had to chase them. When the buyer chose a different seller and I asked why they said the other buyer put an offer in first. They also tried to say we would have to pay the sellers estate agent fees, which should never happen. There's something dodgy going on with them and do not trust them at all.

Failing to keep to word during COVID-19 pandemic - I’m appalled

During the current coronavirus pandemic, our landlord (located in HK) decided it would be best to sell the property! Which we had no issues with until recent events. I have been shielding for 5 months, and have only agreed to 1 viewing a day, that must be booked in advance so that safety measures can be put in place! As it is not my own property, I have refused to show people around it myself as I feel that this is the estate agents job on behalf of the landlord!Yet even after stating that to protect mine and my families health and wellbeing, I would not be taking more than 1 viewing a day. Connells have phoned asking if they can bring 3-4 people in to the property on the same day, completely ignoring the safety measures that have to be in place for a person who is high risk. Due to shielding, etc I feel that I have been particularly helpful still allowing them to bring in a minimal amount of people to view the property, when actually it has been stated that no one outside of the household (my family) should be inside. Another issue I’ve had is that they have booked in viewings for days that we have specifically stated that we cannot do, due to other more important things that can’t be missed. People have been turning up at the house unexpected, without a member of the connells staff - who are supposed to be doing all views so I can maintain social distancing practices! Those turning up have not been told before hand that masks and gloves should, and need to be worn inside the house to protect my family. Connells have also failed to listen my opinion on how many people I was comfortable allowing in the property at once. I stated that I would feel comfortable with 1 person (potential buyer) and the estate agent, but they have been bringing groups of 2+ into the household making it nearly impossible to ensure the safety of myself and family during a worldwide pandemic! It’s not the only problem I’ve had in the space of the 2yrs I’ve been renting. They have blamed us for the cause of significant damage to a drainage pipe! Which when looked at by a specialist, they said that it had eroded and more than likely occurred years ago - when I was not even renting! They have let me down, I will fortunately be leaving the property sooner than expected as there is no possible way that we as a family can deal with these issues anymore! Their customer service/help portal is a joke, and never gets answered! A lot of branches need to be looked into, as the severe amount of problems that have caused is astounding! I’m beyond appalled and cannot wait to move out of the property and find a rental through a different estate agents!

Dishonest and generally incompetent

Our mortgage lender has instructed them to conduct a valuation of the house we are buying. They have made claims that they have been trying to arrange this and have left messages with the sales office. They have not tried to contact them at all. We are buying a new build and the sales office is keen to get everything sorted before our reservation period is over so they have no reason to slow the process. Our broker tried to follow up with them but they had been provided with the incorrect number from them by email. The number was for another department from Connells who apparently couldn’t just transfer them across to the right place. The entire process of buying had been so smooth working with a competent broker, solicitor and sales manager - until we had to deal with Connells. Completely incompetent and worse yet, will lie to cover their incompetence. Disgusting business practice to think you can gloss over your inadequacies with lies.

Avoid Connells mortgage broker services

Nice enough people let down by what must be poor systems and terrible processes, shame.Remortgaging as part of their "lifetime membership" program, we ended up being presented with 2 not great products, this is after hours and hours of phone calls chatting about products, going over the same details again & again. Applying for one of these products took over 4 months, tonnes of pointless repetitive paperwork that frankly they should've been filling out until 1 week before our current product ends they tell us "actually we'll just do a product transfer with your existing lender", this is a fact I'd already told the advisor about in an email some 2 months into the process. Having not been provided with any form of useful remortgaging service we requested the £100 fee be refunded only to be told its "non-refundable".I'd recommend sticking to the newer online mortgage brokers, they rarely charge any upfront admin fees and as we've found can offer better products with far less hassle.

DO NOT USE!

Buying, Selling, Renting a house is stressful enough, add on the amount of stress from these people and your will never want to buy, sell or rent again. We simply wanted to view a property and make an offer, sounds simple, it is rather simple... These guys made both myself and my partner feel inadequate, incompetent and inept. Every other sentence on every phone call was pushing us, telling us we must see their onsite mortgage advisor, every phone call, every time. Even though we had said 4,5.6 times we had our own mortgage broker and done our own research - all is set ready to go, we got pushed, constantly. After having to drawing the line and having to do so forcefully, we felt dreadful, we put an offer in and then were forgotten about. We had to call 2 or 3 times to get an answer...I honestly have no idea why people would want to use this company. We are thankfully not first-time buyers or sellers but if we were this would scare you off for such a long time. Either more customer service training needs to but in place or their targets/KPI's need to be reviewed. Each phone call was infuriating - even if we saw a house that would suit us perfectly as a family, we have avoided due to the nature of this company.DO NOT USE!
