SLUGS

SLUGS, mould, no deep cleaning. That's what we complained about at our arrival on the property. It is disgusting, it's unhealthy, this is not what we are paying for. This is supposed to be a house for a family with SMALL CHILDREN. It's been A MONTH we started reporting these issues! No action has been taken, despite us complying with every request for proof, visits, emails, reporting. The lack of professionalism, simple human decency and bare management is more than appalling, it's criminal. Connells has been made aware of the situation, the house is uninhabitable and our health is affected by it and yet nothing has happened. This company is a disaster.

Poor mortgage service

Poor mortgage service. Had to chase constantly for progress. Calls never returned. Many emails gone unresponded to. No communication whatsoever, and now berating us for them not being aware that our purchase had completed. After the last 4 emails receiving no reply, why would I update? As soon as they have their fee they don't care. Despite signing up for the lifetime service, I will never use Connells for a mortgage again.

Don't waste your time

Exactly the same experience described here by others (Connells in Exeter in this case). If you don't go with a mortgage brokered by them, booking a viewing is near impossible as slots are reserved for those in the list of "premium buyers" as "instructed by the vendor". The reason they gave for that: sellers want financial certainty and apparently only their financial adviser/mortgage broker can provide that (and not, for example, an agreement in principle by other mortgage lenders). Keep in mind this is *before* doing any viewings. If by any chance you manage to do a viewing with them (we managed to book a viewing just to find we were not on the list when we got to the property) don't bother to make an offer: we offered well above the asking price and the agent couldn't have shown less interest or intention to contact us (we never heard anything else from them with regard to the offer).

Unprofessional

Unprofessional - As an experienced property investor with an ever expanding portfolio, I placed a very good offer on a property requiring modernisation. My offer could not be progressed and would not be passed to the seller until I had visited their in-house mortgage advisor as they apparently had preferential rates. This is company policy I was told, and they prefer to manage all aspects in-house, I was even told that all other bidders were undertaking this process so if I wanted to be considered I need to do the same - this is not in line with FCA guidance. Even though I explained that I wanted to use my trusted mortgage advisor that I have used for every purchase over the last 15 years, this was not good enough. Terrible service from someone is supposed to be the branch manager (Tyler Copp), never experienced this before and don't appreciate being intimidated and pressured to do something that legally I am not obliged to do. The worst bit is that the poor buyer who has trusted these agents will never be aware of the offers they have missed out on because of this behavior. Avoid and go see a local independent agent.

Avoid!!! Scammers!! Slow!!

Wanted to view a property connells had on the market but they wouldn’t let me view unless I met with their mortgage broker first. I met with them but had met with a few others previously who gave me better deals.I wanted to place an offer on this property and they told me because I was using a different mortgage broker they won’t “prioritise” my offer unless I went with their mortgage advisor. So I felt pressured in to using them.It took them 2 weeks to get back to me (after me ringing to see if the offer was accepted) and finally they came back saying no, even though I’d offered full price, the vendor wanted £15,000 more.I loved this house so much I agreed.I wanted a survey done on the property and could not get anyone at Connells to give me information about availability for a survey- despite the house being empty.3 weeks in (5 weeks since my viewing) I finally get a response that the vendor will let me have access for a survey,Met the vendors and they told me that they told them they had to use premier property lawyers to do all the conveyancing. They also told me they would have accepted the asking price and connells told them there was a bidding war when in fact nobody else had viewed the property. So they lied about that to get more money from me.I’m now 11 weeks in to the process with no chain as I’m renting, and a vacant property.11 weeks in I still have not secured a mortgage offer because the mortgage advisor is slow, condescending, and couldn’t give a damn. Doesn’t respond to emails and doesn’t answer the phone- they notably screen calls.I’ve rang a few times off other peoples phones and they answer, ring off mine, they don’t.Now, the mortgage advisor has told me he wrote something wrong on the initial mortgage application and because of this it has had to be amended and therefore I have lost my lower interest rate on my mortgage and cost me more money over the fixed term! All because of his mistake.I ring up at least 2 times a week and if anyone answers from the sales team, they just tell me the person I need to speak to will call me back the next day. 4 weeks later and I’m still waiting for that call back. The vendors conveyancers who were also forced by connells, premier property, are an absolute pile of junk and 11 weeks in haven’t even sent my solicitor the pre-contract that the offer has been accepted!I was duped to use their mortgage broker who has got me a crap deal, and still no offer after 11 weeks despite making me pay a 25% deposit as apparently that’s the only mortgage I could get. The estate agents don’t respond. They duped the vendor in to using PPL- all for their extra commission. The vendors have also said they have left the door unlocked when showing me around the property.I’m on the verge of giving up on my dream house because this is too long and stressful and nobody responds to you!!!!

Keeping in Dark

Buying property when estate agents are Connells is absolutely nightmare. Initially there were quick feedbacks on phone. Really quick feedbacks in the span of just 5 minutes. Then they asked to go through financial eligibility through their in-house mortgage advisor to which I agreed. But I told them I have my own mortgage advisor. After the positive evaluation, I was told that vendor is not happy with offer, I increased the offer on the spot on phone call. I didn't get any feedback for more than 2 weeks. Then I sent them an email on their branch office email address asking about my offer. I immediatelly got call that there is another higher offer. They should have told me about that. I sent them revised offer in email, and they are not responding again. Oxley Park, MK branch.

If your lender uses them, go with someone else!

I had my property valued for a re-mortgage by my current lender and then re-valued by a Connells surveyor 2 weeks later. The Derby based Connells surveyor valued my house £40k below the previous valuation. We appealed and were provided with some basic, unsupported cop out reasons for the down-valuation. Clearly totally inept and negligent. They attempted to justify whilst the appeal was incorrect rather than provide evidence that their original valuation was correct. The appeal process makes surveyors totally beyond reproach and untouchable rather than admitting mistakes have been made and coming to a conclusion suitable for all. AssocRICS surveyors have no confidence in their work and scared of claims. Avoid!

Shocking service from start to finish

Shocking service from start to finish. We tried to sell a property with them that was vacant. When we inspected the property a week after they had a viewing they had left the back door open. On other occasions they had left the lights on. When we were unsuccessful selling with them we gave our notice at which point they should have removed it from Rightmove so we could re list it with another agent in six weeks so it looked like a new listing. However it turned out they had not removed it from Rightmove but were not taking viewings either. This is just to mention a few of their continual cock ups.

This company deserves 0

This company deserves 0. Lender TSB appointed Connells who are unprofessional and lack credibility in what they do. They valued my property at 60k less and said the rental value is £1400. Absolute nonsense, there is no 3 bed to rent for £1400. Rental for a 3 bed is £1650 - £1800 and that figure was not plucked from thin air and can be found on Rightmove and came from 3 estate agents. Sold properties for the area can also be found on Rightmove and zoopla A 2 bed opposite me which needed work went for £425k and I put my 3 bed down as £450k already refurb. My house is also between two project worth £6bn in a 25 years regeneration area. The surveyor was rude and unprofessional, it’s like my face didn’t fit. The guy has development needs. If you hear Connells will survey your property, cancel your mortgage. My property has been with my family for over 25 years and Connells said the walls are thin and “prone” to damp. This was not based on seeing damp. The word used was “prone” and not backed with evidence to uphold the statement. Where’s the damp for 25 years? Over this period the property has been with 3 mortgage lenders and surveyed by 3 different surveyors. So clearly something is odd with how the survey was conducted. I’m intrigued to know if TSB has any metrics on how many Connells has downgraded. TSB should get rid of this company, it’s harming their business/reputation. Because of this I would never use TSB again. I lost the property I placed an offer on as a result. The guy was also late, referred to my cat as fat and didn’t call before arriving as per the expectation video I was sent. He never checked the loft and spent 10mins inspecting the house. As soon as he came through the front door he asked where is my garden which I found strange. You would think he would start with the first room, work through the house then go to the garden. He obviously had this in mind before viewing the property

very expensive failure - please avoid

Incredibly aggressive tactics for buyers to force them to use their broker, with a very high fee. If you get past this (and we had to resort to threats of the ombudsman to do so to get our offer in) they are disorganised and terrible at communicating. Our purchase fell through and we lost the survey and conveyancing fees, they didn’t even have the decency to handle this properly. I wish I’d read these reviews, approach with caution if you can’t avoid them.

Shocking estate agents

Shocking estate agents! Nothing but constant issues, started with being lied to and convinced that we had to pay their lifetime mortgage fee, secondly was forced to go with their mortgage broker because apparently it would give us a stronger chance of getting the property we want, tried to force us to go with Shoosmiths (thank god we didn't, because they turned out to be absolutely shocking also for the person we was buying from)constant calls chasing things we needed, constantly failing to communicate things between us. They lied about the whole thing, what started as 2 in a chain, somehow turned out to be 4? even our solicitor was confused. Just shocking and unprofessional throughout. And to top it off, when we EVENTUALLY got the keys, we went in to collect them and was handed them over as if we was staying in a hotel room!!, no congratulations, no card, not even a simple little gift considering we just made on of the biggest purchases in our life. They are all about money! I know you cant control who you buy your house from, but please don't allow these incompetent people to sell your home.

WON'T allow viewings unless you agree to use their services!

I called Connells to view a place that had come onto Rightmove half an hour before and within our budget. After handing over all personal information the agent then started forcing their mortgage services upon us. After refusing these (and about 10 minutes of time in total) the agent then said "sorry, we're fully booked".The following day I speak to my mortgage advisor who, without mentioning the above, tells me that he's been hearing non-stop about customers being rejected viewings or offers by Connells unless you go with their services!!

Forced to speak to the in house mortgage broker?

As a mortgage broker, we encounter many estate agents in your day to day work. So far we have had 6 complaints in Jan 2022 alone about the Connells group. This includes Dixons, Barnard Marcus and a whole lot more. Consistently, they would tell our customers that they MUST speak with their in house mortgage advisers before their offer can be put forward. It is a mandatory step for all buyers and it is upon the Vendor's request. Some of our customers were even told that they could have a lower offer accepted if they use the In house Adviser. I have made multiple complaints but it falls on deaf ears as they will only accept customer complaints and the customers are worried they will lose the property if they complain. As a buyer, PLEASE know that you are under no obligation to speak to any "in house" or "preferred" mortgage adviser if you already have your own or have seen your bank about your ability to proceed. It is illegal for any agent to not put your offer forward - regardless of any circumstances. Don't be intimidated or swindled.

Would give less than 1 star if I could

Would give less than 1 star if I could, terrible estate agents. We were told by salesperson Gary Purssord that the offer process would be initial followed by best/final offer. We put our initial offer in with another salesperson (Adrian). A day later, salesperson Zoe Poole told us that our offer was not good enough and that the seller had accepted another offer. She then said that there was nothing more to be done and that we could not put in another offer, only to then go back on that and take our best and final, which was obviously a lie to get us off the phone. We were then phoned by another salesperson (2 minutes later) who advised that the seller had declined our best and final offer after it was put forward - although I don’t believe our best offer was put forward as there was 2 minutes between the calls and it would have been unfair on the other buyer who had already had their offer accepted. We also had trouble even trying to put an offer in, as we were badgered to use their mortgage advisor. This was even after we stated that we had our own mortgage advisor and that we did not want to use theirs.

Stay away

We were promised a premium service by Westbury based Connells’ agents and coerced into signing a contract, which we later found out had a tie-in period of 6 months. The smooth talking agent made it look like that signing the contract was a mere formality as the house will be sold in couple of weeks, if not days. The ad on Rightmove had wrong information about our house and was awfully written. The agents never responded to our emails and only talked to us when we called them. We were not provided the copies of the contract or EPC, till weeks later when we chased them for the documents. They make very talk claims, distort stats to suit their narrative and deliver very little, at least in my experience. I’ll never use them again and would advise everyone to read their contract carefully before signing the dotted lines.

Avoid

Used them as rental management for my rental property but their service degraded so much over time to point that if i can give zero star, I would. Non-responsive when you ask them for something and completely incompetent group of people working in this company. The home sales team is no better with a completely ridiculous property valuation given where the other property company can give a significantly higher valuation.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Absolutely the WORST letting agent on the market. Customer service is non existent, no one replies to emails and they all pass the buck from one person to another when you call them. The only reason I had an ongoing issue fixed after battling with them and jumping through their hoops for almost a year was because I threatened to go to environmental health.

Avoid the Oadby branch at any cost!

I had a very unpleasant experience with M***c* and D**i*l at Oadby office. I paid the holding deposit and went through all the references and was promised the handover of keys on the 30th December. I had arranged everything for the move and even paid advance to the movers. At 4pm on the 30th, I received a call saying the landlord is not signing the agreement and the next date would be 4th January. After a lot of chasing today, I got to know that landlord has refused to sign the agreement. I believe that M***c* was aware of all this throughout and failed to inform me as the only important person here is landlord and not the tenant. When I asked about the reason and my rights, the attitude was 'just go away'. You have no rights apart from getting the holding deposit back.
