PLEASE AVOID CHANIN ESTATES ASAP, especially first-time students. Can’t agree more with one-star reviews. They’re all truths. I believe the 5-star reviews are written right after they signed the contract and the agency told them to do so, just like us. Once they got the money, Chanin Estates are on the same side as the landlord and are highly unprofessional. Near the end of the contract, the landlord seemed like a different person, with inexplicable accusations of wanting to deduct unjustifiable compensation from the deposit through the agent. The tenant's hands are tied as the landlord dictates all standards. We hired a cleaning company and did everything we could to get the flat as clean as it was when we moved in. But the landlord was still unsatisfied, I'm afraid because we couldn't just give him a new flat. Calling ordinary wear and tear as damages that no one done before, even though the landlord have told us more severe damage that former tenants were accused of at the beginning of moving in. The landlord sets the standard as if it’s his first day living on earth and don’t know what human are capable of, and we should better pay him rent, but there shouldn't be any human beings actually living in the house to be able to meet all his criteria. They are not looking for tenants but professional housekeepers who also pay him rent so that he might return all the deposit to us. I feel betrayed and the checking out process is so absurd. Agents and landlord work together to exploit legal loopholes and use their power to bully and tryna rob tenants. Even what is clearly the agent's negligence can be said by the landlord to be the tenant's fault. This year-long tenancy could almost be described as a year of paving the way for scams targeted at unsophisticated international students.
