If you are a landlord, my personal opinion: AVOID

One immediate point. It's no good Foxtons replying on Trust pilot asking for 'more information so they can follow up'. I have sent them endless information - as I imagine every other frustrated customer has. Please be wary of all the positive reviews. I have my doubts as to their authenticity. This company are charming on onboarding. I have been a landlord with them for three and a half years, so I have broad experience - not just experience of the initial process as many of these reviews are. At the start, they love your 'lovely property'. They are persistent and responsive, very sweet. Nothing is too much trouble. Similarly they schmooze (and pressurise) tenants. They are very good at this. You will notice many reviews mentioning specific people and branches - that's because they ask for them. Once you're onboarded, if you have any difficulties at all, they disappear. Emails take weeks to reply to - consistently. Even emails labelled as 'complaint' are not responded to within their own policy - it took them months to get back to me about a very serious and misleading piece of information I was given that incorrectly interpreted the contract which they drew up. This nearly led to serious consequences with my tenant. If you take them on as property managers, they will take weeks to send you quotes for works to be done. The quotes, once they do arrive, will be about 50% more expensive than if you arranged the works yourself. You will already be paying extra for 'management' but there is no eye on keeping costs good value for landlords. Their quotes are so prohibitively expensive that I ended up arranging things myself and cancelling their management service - it was unusably slow and expensive. They placed unwarranted holds on tenancy deductions which meant that both myself and the tenant experienced significant stress and delay. The inventory service was absolutely rubbish - missed so much detail (even missing that a whole piece of furniture was missing!). The inventory is so important and they messed it up. They even arranged for the inventory clerk to arrive before the tenant had moved out. They really don't know what they are doing - or they are too big and impersonal to get it right. Now that the tenancy has ended I've been whacked with yet another fee that I didn't agree to. I've made repeated enquiries about this, again with no response. I'm busy now building a case to refer to the Property Ombudsman. I'm busy and really could do without this extra work. I've given Foxtons many, many thousands of pounds and I have no idea what for. I have no idea where the positive reviews have come from. I'm never using them again, and I am very glad to be free of them. I've been letting my property for 20 years and honestly - it was less hassle and SO MUCH cheaper doing it myself via OpenRent. That's where I'm returning to.

A letting agent that simplifies your life

I use Foxtons to let out my flat. Overall, the process was easy. They came, looked at the flat in person, provided an evaluation and explained the process through. I took the offer where they deal with everything. While this came at a rather hefty commission, i really did not need to do anything. Foxtons helped me sort out all the requests the tenants have and kept me updated with the repairs (also asked for my permission too before placing any purchase orders). Special kudos to Tony Chan, my property manager. He helped me a lot with sorting out all the relevant paperwork to let out a flat. He is very responsive as well. Any queries I have, i can be confident that he will answer it. As a landlord letting through Foxtons, i have no worries, though the commission is a little bit higher.
