Not happy

I have been in talks with Bovis for months now regarding the horrific quality of our kitchen. The doors don’t shut properly, a (heavy) drawer front has come off (falling onto my 2 year old daughters head as it did) and it cannot withstand normal family life. It already needs replacing after 1 year and Bovis are not offering an agreeable solution, instead they’re trying to plaster over the problem until our warranty runs out and are trying to gaslight me by not listening to the actual problems when I explain. I would like this sorted asap as we paid a premium price for our property.

the worst builders in the UK

They are the worst builders in the UK. They use very cheap materials for thier new builds. We bought a house within 6months the windows were blown out. We called them to repair it even though there’s a warranty they refused. All home owners on my street have their baths rusted within 3 years of purchasing a new build including mine. They used wrong doors for the whole estate. A real joke. They are horrible!

Run the fleecehold scam - run a mile

Sell properties as "freehold", but employ the fleecehold scam where you have what is effectively leasehold but with "ground maintenance" that you don't receive or poor value. The scam has less legal limits than leasehold too, so its run pretty much as an extortion racket. They have a restriction on the deeds, meaning they can demand whatever they want to allow changes or sale of the property.

Granny left stranded

We purchased a new-build two bedroom Bovis Home for my 80 year old mother-in-law in Witney in June 2020. This new estate with over 1000 homes was due to have local shops, community centre, care home, as well as schools and playgrounds. We purchased her Bovis home just across the road from where these shops were to be built, as she has mobility issues. It’s been over 3 years now and whilst there is a small Primary School and a small playground there are no shops or other amenities as promised by the developer. In fact, the huge area allocated for these units is in the middle of the estate and looks like a derelict wasteland, complete with broken fencing and overgrown rubble. No shops, the roads aren’t finished, there’s been no safe crossings put in, there are dead trees and incomplete landscaping everywhere and there isn’t even a postbox! We purchased this property on this estate with the promise that there would be shops and services. This estate has had people living here for over 5 years and nothing has happened and we are so disappointed. We also own a Bloor home on the same estate. I can accept the excuse of building delays due to Covid, but that finished 3 years ago! It seems like the developer have got their money from us, and then just moved on to the next build. It is a nice house, but living far out of a town on an ugly development with no shops is heartbreaking for us as well as granny who needs the local facilities. Plus, it has devalued the properties as well as making it them harder to sell.

I would buy from Bovis again

We bought a new home from Bovis in January 2018. We are very pleased with our home. There were only very tiny issues on first moving in and these were dealt with quickly and well. The site has only recently fully been built, but the workers have always been very courteous. I would buy from Bovis again.

The Vistry group led by Greg Fitzgerald…Bovis included

The Vistry group led by Greg Fitzgerald and includes Bovis homes and Linden Homes are to be a ‘watch out’ for any potential buyer.I will not comment on internals, but the surrounding area to where they build is rife of noise pollution breaches, HSE re commendations and a plethora of false promises and they most likely will have a detrimental impact on your living and well being.Be aware. The issue reared its head July 1st 2022 and remains an irritant as a result of the neglect and contempt they hold people in. This is my experience and I can qualify.A simple search will show you historic Bovis fines for wrong doing.

Excellent expeirence at Longhedge Village by Bovis Homes (Vistry)

We moved to our home in late 2021. The customer experience was excellent. When our buyer fell through at the 11th hour Bovis Homes mobilised quickly and secure a very favourable part exchange deal for us. They helped with our moving costs when there was a delay due to conveyancing on their end. The quality of our new build is excellent. Minimal snagging issues and those we had were resolved very quickly and efficiently by our site manager for Bovis Homes Angus at Longhedge in Salisbury. We've always bought new build homes from 3 different developers in the past 15years and Bovis has been by far the best and smoothest experience. Recently we had a snagging issue with a door handle a good 19 months on from move in and they came and resolved it with no fuss.

Complaints/Customer Services Lack of Contact Details

For a start, I was obliged to provide a one star rating for this review as I was unable to select a 'negative' rating - which would have been -5.What is it with these companies that REFUSE to provide an email contact for either 'complaints' or 'customer services'. What are they afraid of?Thankfully I am NOT a purchaser of a Bovis Home, and based upon current activities of their sales team, I will not be.I asked, simply via a property marketing email, for information on the development. Left email address, but no phone number for contact - I refuse to deal with companies and/or organisations over a telephone as generally all you ever get is lies and un-truths - what I received was 3 emails - 'no-reply' type - informing me that they were unable to contact me due to not providing a phone number, whilst at the same time receiving 3 telephone calls asking me to call their sales team.Guess what? You CANNOT find an email address for complaints or customer services anywhere.Bovis Homes should change their name to Bovis Cowboy Builder Homes

Worst experience of my life

Worst experience of my life. Just before the house prices shot up, we were in the process of purchasing a house in radford semele. Our initial sale fell through as the buyer had wanted to move quickly and Dixon’s hadn’t bothered to contact either of us for a month (i’ll get on to them in another review!) It was all okay and we sold again and everything was going ahead smoothly. They wanted us to sign up with the solicitor even though we weren’t in a position to move ahead yet. My partner asked that the sale was confirmed as we didn’t want to be hundreds of pounds out of pocket if they withdrew. They said everything was fine, so he signed up, the surveyor checked out the foundations (because that’s all there was) for our mortgage and the next day they pulled the plug. To say I was f-ing furious is an understatement. I called up and asked what scam they were pulling. The woman said she had a customer she was with and suggested that she put me on loudspeaker so they can know what con artists they’re dealing with. She sheepishly said she would call me back tomorrow and hung up on me. I received no phone call. I received no refund. Make no mistake, Bovis are con-men. Looking at the property we were going to buy, I think we may have been better off out of it - there was a massive excavated hillside right next to our property which blocked the sun by us and was far closer than it seemed on their map, I think that property was going to have a host of problems so whoever gazzumped us (as I’m guessing that’s what happened) good luck. This was 2021 not 2022

My partner and I moved to Sherford in…

My partner and I moved to Sherford in June 2022 after purchasing a Bovis home. After 2 months of moving in 2 of the clauses in the transfer were broken and Bovis didn’t care at all. We have a fence on our driveway which isn’t supposed to be there in accordance with the transfer and it restricts us that much we can’t get our baby boy out the car. I have now been chasing the customer care team for the last 7 months and it is now effecting my remortgage. Paul Brodie the customer care manager has said the legal team can’t deal with a covenance due to a response they had. I was supposed to receive a phone call from their director Emma Warden-Nevins and never received that phone call. They created these clauses to protect us when we buy these houses and I feel we have bought this house under false pretences and completely left in the dark. Our house is now struggling to get a remortgage and it has effected the value of the property because the transfers have been broken.

Brimington Heights Chesterfield

From first viewing the show home on the Brimington heights site in Chesterfield in January 2023 to moving in to our stunning new home at the end of March 2023 our experience of Bovis homes has been superb. The sales team (Ellie and Lisa) were helpful and friendly throughout the move process and guided us through every part of the move. Nothing was a problem for them and they made what is a very stressful time a lot easier! The site manager and assistant site manager (Mike and Neil) have also been incredible with the service they provide. No job is too small and the snag list that we had (which only consisted of very minor things) have been rectified within a few weeks. All the trades on site are friendly and their workmanship has been spot on. The estate it’s self is looking fabulous and the houses appear to be built well. I would definitely recommend Bovis Homes and the Brimington Heights site in particular. What fabulous views and a gorgeous setting. Thank you.

Don’t trust this company!

This company is completely disorganised. At the beginning it looked perfect. Me and my partner went to visit the house we wanted to purchase and at the first visit they started pushing for a reservation fee. They insisted as much as possible, constantly calling and messaging. We’ve finally decided to make a reservation with no much time to think, only 2 days for 385k house. We paid the reservation fee and we were told that if we changed our minds we would receive half of the reservation fee. We did change our minds but when we went to receive the money back, they basically disappeared. I’m waiting for my payment for more than a month now, I’ve chased by email and phone, they told me many times that the money would be with me in the next couple of days. Still nothing. DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY, you’ll be disappointed and waste your money. I’m relieved we didn’t buy a house with them. Once they get your money they don’t care about your or your requests.

‼️AVOID‼️ If you want to see what Bovis…

‼️AVOID‼️ If you want to see what Bovis Homes have messed up, check out the New Stanton Cross development, shocking. Including that huge over the ground poo pipe running infront of residents front windows/doors, poo 💩 coming up through sinks etc.A million other problems 2, did you know they even evicted an old couple who had a farm on the land & let some other farmers stay.Built on land that can flood etc. Now they chopping down historical trees for a roundabout. It's absolutely bonkers. If you don't believe me just check out Purple Vision on you tube his videos tell you everything ! Good Luck to anyone who buys from them, a lucky escape for me & family.

Appalling workmanship

We purchased our home in July 2020. In January 2023 we discovered the carpet in my sons wardrobe was sogging wet, and there was mould up the wall - we discovered that the shower had been leaking from the master bed ensuite adjacent to his room.We had the insurance company out who said this was not covered due our policy not covering the poor workmanship by Bovis Homes and this has probably been a slow leak since the house was brought! The building surveyor has said the original fitting was absolutely appalling. We are 6 months out of warranty so Bovis will do absolutely nothing even though it is clear it has been ongoing since before the warranty expired. We are now left with £5000 of damage and are seeking legal advice.

BEWARE!

BEWARE!! Massively overpriced and poor quality housing and really really poor service after purchase. You'll notice that the developers periodically put the prices up of the whole development, therefore artificially inflating housepricing overall. Advice for future buys:- Go way below the asking price. I got mine for £30k under the asking price (£360k instead of £390k) and to be honest I should have gone lower another £20k lower.- Don't listen to the nonsense and heartless pressure the sales team put you under. They are working to get their bonuses! I recommend saying that everytime they threaten to pull out you'll lower your offer by a couple of grand! And definitely drop your bid last minute. They are desperate to off-load stock for cashflow!- Don't sign off the initial faults list for a long time. They will pressure you to do this but don't. Once you sign it off, you can technically still get things fixed but it basically doesn't happen. We were given a weird vent with flaps which we didn't ask for, instead of the normal once, and it woke our two-year-old daughter up every time it was windy and they didn't fix it for three months. It took a lot of chasing from me and caused a lot of stress.- Bear in mind that Bovis couldn't care less about the quality of their product and service but are trying to rip you off as much as possible.- Be prepared for lots of things to break not long into living there and, once the two period period is up, for the costs to start adding up.

Dreadful company

Hard to put into words the experience we’ve had with Bovis. To cut a long story short, they pulled out of our part exchange after almost 6 months and on day we were due to exchange contracts. They didn’t even communicate with us and threatened to hold our deposit. We lost hundreds of pounds in solicitor fees and they lied to us time and time again. Cannot suggest more that you avoid this company.

I bought a Southwald home from Bovis Home Edwalton

I bought a Southwald home from Bovis Homes Edwalton in August 2020. Within the past 6 months I have had to pay out for repair a roof leak caused by the lead flashing over the en suite bathroom which had no cement fill on the brickwork and needed sealing, and now poor installation of electrical cables, probably loose, in the power box in the kitchen. Its a nice looking house but the workmanship leaves a lot to be desired.

Buying a Bovis home.

Hi. We recently wanted to buy a New Bovis Home from the Gateway in Bexhill East Sussex. We had a buyer for our home we paid a deposit of £500 to secure our new home at Bovis. Unfortunately our buyer pulled out, not unusual in these times we advised Bovis that we were still interested and wanted our New home. We were still several months away from the new house being ready. Bovis advised us that they could not wait for us to get a new buyer, not only did we lose the opportunity to buy our new house but we also lost half the deposit (£250). We have noticed that our new house is still not built and this is 4 months since we were told it could not be saved for us. Also we have noticed several other properties are up for sale on this Bovis site and have been for sometime. We have also noticed that Bovis property prices have not reduced in line with the changing market. To me it’s not a surprise that Bovis are not selling houses if they turn away potential buyers. If Bovis pulled out of this agreement why should I lose out.

Awful and expensive Bovis part exchange experience

My wife and I were encouraged to part exchange our property for a Bovis house in Horam East Sussex as we wanted to move to the area from an area where the property market was slower. We were very clear about this from the outset and told that it would not be a problem. Bovis made a good offer on our property and told us that we had to be in a position to complete within 6 weeks and to instruct our solicitor immediately. We were cautious about this as they hadn't carried out a building survey but we were pressured by the sales team that we had to keep up the 6 weeks pace. Bovis listed our property on the market with local agents at the price they had agreed to pay (£30,000 below the agents consensus on market value - but this was ok for us) and carried out several viewings whilst the property was still owned by us. After about 3 weeks Bovis reduced the price of our property by £10,000 without consulting us, further de-valuing it in the local market place, and when challenged on this said that they were only interested in a quick sale for the first time. Despite forcing us to rush Bovis didn't carry out the survey on our property for 3 weeks and they then took another 2 weeks to produce the report - there were no major defects found. When I called the sales team I was told that the time wasted in producing the report did not effect anything and that we needed to keep paying solicitors fees, searches etc so that we could meet the 6 weeks deadline. Once it became clear to Bovis that they would not sell our flat in the 6 week period it took to buy our house I received a phone call from a low level member of the sales team to tell me matter of factly that they were pulling out of the deal. At this point we had spent around £5000 and were 6 days from exchange of contracts. Overall it was a really awful experience dealing with Bovis, from the sales teams rudeness to the money we lost. We visited the site about 2 months after our deal had fallen through and the house we were buying was sold. I strongly suspect that the reason our deal fell through is that a non-part exchange purchaser enquired about it and was preferred by Bovis. We sold our flat about 4 weeks after the deal fell through on the open market but had to sell at the lower amount that Bovis had reduced it to without permission as people enquiring had seen it at this price. I would estimate that the total cost to us in trying to deal with Bovis was around £15,000.

Do not buy a new home from Bovis

August 2021 we brought a brand new home from Bovis Homes in Drakes Broughton, from the moment we moved in we have had nothing but problems, a hole in the wall which they’d tried to hide with the radiator, doors that didnt fit properly, handles constantly falling off the doors, falling off the windows on the front ( less than a year of being here ) leaking downstairs toilet which they came back 3 times and said it was fixed but wasnt and ruined the flooring in the WC. Broken tiles in the bathroom and the list goes on. This is a house which no one had lived in before us.
