Probably the worst estate agents I've used, student let, had damp and mold in my room, they sent people around to check and said there was nothing wrong, even though my bedsheets were moist and I had countless dehumidifiers that were full after a single day. Had to move into a box room for the rest of the year, and I'm lucky that was available otherwise I'd have had some serious health issues. Halfway through the year we get an email saying the landlord has moved away from martin and co and they wont be dealing with us anymore. So had to deal with an unresponsive landlord for 6 months with no middle man. Absolutely no accountability, will leave you in the dust once you've signed the agreement and given you the keys. Went to Student Haven for my last few years, they were nothing but helpful, use them instead. EDIT - In response to the reply on this post. I actually left a review 10 years ago, I'd forgotten why I deleted it but thank you for reminding me it was because I was being harrassed by text and calls from you. - I'm not about to open that discourse again so please refrain from contacting me. Thank you for clarifying it was actually yourselves who severed contact with our landlord, leaving us in the property with no representation, there was actually no explanation back then apart from a single letter, letting us know you weren't representing us, no explanation why. - I would direct my frustrations at the landlord however you didn't leave us with a name or any relevant contact information for them. I received a marketing email from you after 10 years of hardly being a respected tenant and it just felt like the right time :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, even after nearly 10 years. I have tried to call you this morning to discuss your comments as my records don't paint the same picture as your review. Though when I explained who I was, you quickly ended the call? We actually took the decision to not represent the landlord as they refused our requests for work, ultimately preventing us from doing our job. Perhaps your frustrations should be directed to the landlord of the property? I'm not sure what could have prompted you to provide your 'review' after nearly ten years, but we'd be delighted to discuss your concerns and perhaps confirm what actually took place.

The friendly group at Martin & Co sold my old house very quickly priced correctly for the current market and purchased my new abode with professionalism and efficiency that went beyond the norm. Always updating me at different stages. I have nothing but admiration for their collective teamwork, making my house change as stress free as it could ever be. Many thanks, forever grateful 🙏

Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Rats in the walls, filthy laundry machines that were unusable, and the lift broke down constantly. Martin & Co staff walked in on me while I was asleep, then tried to charge me hundreds for imaginary “repairs.” They kept my £400 deposit and demanded £920 more with no receipts. Place is a scam.

A Case Study in “Professional Responsibility”, Courtesy of Martin & Co, Huddersfield It’s truly reassuring to know that when you deal with Martin & Co, Huddersfield you can expect a masterclass in how not to take responsibility for your own advice. Before even moving into their new flat at Gate Residence Ltd, Huddersfield, my friend did exactly what any responsible tenant would do, they checked with their letting agent, Martin & Co Huddersfield, about the parking arrangements. Given that the development has both resident and visitor bays on privately managed land, and that a resident parking permit had already been issued to them, it was entirely reasonable to ask whether a separate visitor parking permit was required. Martin & Co confidently replied that no visitor permit was needed. After moving in, my friend noticed that the parking signage around the visitor bays clearly stated “Private Land, Valid Parking Permit Required.” Acting responsibly, they contacted Martin & Co again for clarification. Yet once more, Martin & Co reassured them that no visitor permit was required, that visitors could park freely on a first-come, first-served basis. Relying on that information, when I visited my friend, I parked in one of the visitor bays. Unfortunately, I received a fine from UK Parking Control (UKPC), who manage parking on behalf of Gate Residence Ltd. When the matter was raised with Martin & Co, they claimed they had never been informed that a visitor parking permit was required and, in fact, had parked there “many times” without incident. A fascinating standard of evidence, one might say. It was only when they contacted Gate Residence Ltd (and copied all involved parties) that the truth surfaced. Gate Residence Ltd confirmed that they had, in fact, informed Martin & Co back in 2019 that all visitor bays require valid permits, even naming the Martin & Co staff member who received that communication. Gate Residence Ltd rightly pointed out that if Martin & Co had failed to maintain continuity of information within their own team, that was not their problem. In other words, the information was there, Martin & Co simply lost it somewhere between 2019 and the present, and then confidently misinformed their tenants. Even after this, Martin & Co refused to accept responsibility, choosing instead to advise that “the signage should have been read.” Ironically, it was because the signage was read that my friend asked them twice for confirmation, both times being reassured incorrectly. Frankly, even children know how to admit when they’ve made a mistake, even kids do it better. Martin & Co Huddersfield have truly redefined professionalism, blending confident misinformation with a steadfast refusal to accept responsibility. Their internal communication may be patchy, but their ability to shift blame is seamless. If you’re seeking a letting agency that can assure you of one thing while proving another, and then gracefully step aside when consequences appear, Martin & Co Huddersfield are your perfect choice.

When you experience truly great service, you can’t help but share it! After some less-than-great encounters with estate agents in the past, I was beginning to lose hope, but Martin & Co has completely changed that. Their professionalism and care has been a breath of fresh air. So I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible team at Martin & Co. for handling my apartment viewing so seamlessly. At the time of writing, I haven’t even reached the offer accepted stage, yet I couldn’t wait to share how impressed I was! A huge thank you to my agent, Zack T, for being such a fantastic host, knowledgeable, welcoming, and truly embodying the kind of support every customer hopes for, especially during what can be a daunting process. Wishing Martin & Co. continued success, and a special cheers to Zack for making this experience so positive! Would be 5 stars if my offer gets accepted - but for now...

They Pretend to be nice before you sign the contract and pay the money, but as soon as they got your money they don’t care about you anymore, took months to repair and took your deposit for no reason. The only way to get your deposit is to dispute with the Dps or TPS I can’t remember and you probably will have to take legal action But to be fair I like one of their staffs called William or will, always friendly and helpful but he couldn’t help much as he is responsible for something else I believe but others are really not helpful at all Better Avoid them if you can and there are a lot of properties that you can choose

Good morning, Unfortunately we have no records of a client with your name. If you would like to get in touch to confirm you were actually a client of ours, we would be happy to discuss your concerns. The dispute service within the DPS is there to protect tenants rights, no legal would be required to claim a deposit. The only reason the DPS would not award a deposit refund is if they saw clear evidence that it should be retained by the agency / landlord. I'm happy to speak with you at a time to suit, if you are genuinely a client of ours. Thank you

We have worked with Leah and team for 18 months and are delighted with the service. Our rental property is completely hands off for us. They take care of everything and when a tenant left they had a replacement straight away. They took care of all repairs and queries. They are responsive to emails and queries. Really delighted with the team.

I’ve never felt so disrespected as a tenant. During exam time, we were kicked out of the building daily from 9AM to 6PM. My flat had rats, and the laundry room smelled like sewage because the machines were flooded. The lift never worked. They charged me after I moved out and asked for hundreds more with no proof. This company causes stress and financial pain for students. Avoid.

Thank you for your review, although it appears you have not been a tenant of ours. From what you are saying in your review I am guessing this is Yns dje under a fake name!! The reason you have decided to leave 7 negative reviews under fake names is due to the issues that were found at the end of your tenancy. Your room was left in a terrible condition, which you have admitted too on the emails after photos were sent to you of the checkout. This has cost the landlord in excess of £1000 to put right. Due to family problems you advised you had to just up and leave without cleaning up after yourself. Smoking is not permitted in the building, yet you continued to do so in a sneaky manner by spraying cans and cans of air freshner, rolling a towel up at the back of your door and throwing cigarette butts out of the window. The carpet has cigarette burns around the window area, the walls have nicotine stains, you had sellotape around the walls which has pulled paint off. Food was left in the kitchen area that was out of date and smelly, milk left had 'gone off' again, unaccepatble. The furniture was left stained and unuseable for the new occupier of this room. The laundry room which you have full use of is cleaned on a very regular basis, it has never been flooded! The lift was isolated from the building many years ago to which all applicants are advised of. Should the room have been left as it was presented to you there would have been no issues.

I was a resident at 34 Wood Street Studios. The building had severe hygiene issues, rodents, broken lift, and laundry units full of dirty water. My room was entered without consent while I was sleeping. I was wrongly charged an extra month’s rent, had my deposit withheld, and then received an unsubstantiated demand for £920 more. I received no breakdowns or invoices. Highly unprofessional.

Martin and Co is the single worst estate agent I have ever know, I am begging you please do not use them. I rented a house with them for 9 months and it’s the worst experience I’ve ever had with an estate agents (I‘ve lives in 8 different rented houses before this one!!) despite asking ten separate times they refused to get me any access to contact my own land lord and they even told me he would visit one day and never turned up, I never once got to speak to him. I had unbelievable maintenance issues including but not limited to: lights with no fittings, a cellar that wasn’t sealed and caused a gale to blow through the whole house, damp like you wouldn’t believe, and a shower that leaked so aggressively it was causing damage to the infrastructure of the house, I emailed about all of these and they refused to fix them, I put in formal notice to their website that they needed fixing and they refused to acknowledge them. By the time I left the house wasn’t fit to live in and despite knowing this they moved someone new in within two weeks of me leaving. I also had issues that they kept calling me while I was at work despite repeatedly telling them not to. And is that the worst? Not by a long shot! The worst by far is one of the people who works there, a man by the name Lee who was the most disgustingly disrespectful person I have ever know, I don’t know how he ever got hired! Refusing to respond to emails, lying about maintenance (as if I wasn’t living in the house and knew what was wrong with it!), being rude and speaking down to me, hanging up the phone! The whole shebang! And now, after another staff member doing an inspection of the property upon me leaving it and agreeing it was completely fine, they’re trying to take nearly £200 of my deposit from me just for the sake of it. PLEASE, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT GO WITH MARTIN AND CO!!
