Very helpful to me as a first year student finding accommodation. Rachel helped me with all fees to be paid at the beginning and co-opperated with me as I was not in the UK at the time. Would highly recommend Harringtons Lettings to anyone in search of accommodation at reasonable prices.

Usually I don't post reviews when they are bad, but when I rented through Harringtons they really did treat me quite awfully. I feel like they do not care about their tenants and they have left a bitter taste in my mouth. I really do not recommend this agency.

Zoe · 26 October 2019

Agent replied · 24 October 2024

Good Morning Zoe Thank you for your comments. I am not sure what has lead you to leave a review 7 months are leaving the property, I have also looked through correspondence and cannot see there were issues other than maintenance which the landlord dealt with directly and WiFi not being available straight away which is usually the case when someone moves into a property, rented or owned. The landlord also registers and deals with their own deposit returns so if your grievance is regarding any of the above, these are all items we had no control over. Without further details I am not able to comment on specifics, it is not our intention to make any tenant feel mistreated and I apologise you feel this way, we welcome constructive feedback therefore if you wish to discuss further I am more than happy to do so. Kind Regards Emma Carr

Brilliant letting agency, I would use them again. We unfortunately had a few issues on our move in due to previous tenants. But it was all sorted fairly quickly. Any maintenance issues were fixed promptly and the staff were professional. We received our full deposit at the end of our tenancy.

Responsive and reliable estate agents, My partner and I have used several Brighton based estate agents in the past and Harrington's has been by far the easiest and most pleasurable to work with. Rachel and the rest of the team helped us every step of the way. Highly Recommend A++

Myself and my 5 other housemates all rent through Harringtons, we’re all students attending Brighton University and have been tenants with them since the end of August. I must admit we did have some teething issues with the property with a blocked toilet, a couple of broken curtain poles and one plug socket hanging off the wall. However, as soon as we notified Rachel at Harringtons of the issues they were sorted quickly and promptly. Everyone I have spoken to in the office seems really friendly and always happy to help.

I have been using Harringtons managed service for my 4 rental properties for 4 years now and speak with Rachel who is really easy to deal with. They have all the professional knowledge to ensure everything is done properly. They are very responsive if there is anything that needs repairing and I hardly have to get involved at all. They always check with me by phone or email before instructing any works. I have always been pleased with the quality of the work done by any contractors they use. Harrington’s management fee is very competitive and I have recommended them to couple of my friends who rent out their properties who managed to get a better deal than their previous letting agent.

I didn't have a good experience with this agency. To rent a house through them you need more documents and proofs than you need to buy a propriety. They have no respect for the tenants and they make oubvious the fact that are intrested only in profit. Stay away!

Disingenuous, rude and unprofessional agency. Prospective tenants and landlords be warned: wolves in sheep's clothing! They will cut corners at every opportunity to minimise outlay and maximise their profits to the detriment of your customer experience.. 5 reasons why to not use Harringtons: 1. They tried to deduct an outrageous amount of our deposit (which we have only now managed to win back). They charged in excess of £600 for an hours clean. Yes, that's right - 60 minutes! Who cleaned it? Kim Woodburn? 2. They registered our deposit in the wrong house address. This means that Harringtons were in violation of the Housing Law Act 2004. Amateur behaviour. 3. They arranged viewings without our permission more than 3 months prior to us leaving the property (this was an infraction of the terms of the contracted agreement) and only with a days notice. When I refused, I was told that I was 'inconveniencing' prospective tenants and them as a company. My apologies, I didn't realise that the money we pay you as CURRENT tenants was an inconvenience. 4. They didn't have a spare key to the house. My housemate had to get a key cut for them to which he popped round to their office to drop it off with the receipt in tow. They didn't recompense him for this. It is in the nature of their business is to ensure full and swift payment of rent but then they're unable to honour those principles themselves?! A complete lack of integrity and respect. Disgraceful. 5. When we first moved in there were several issues with the property. A.) a broken light switch with the cover slightly detached from the wall (potentially dangerous as well as massively inconvenient), B. )paint peeling from the ceiling, C.) broken blinds in my bedroom...oh and D.) the lock / latch mechanism on the front door didn't work. But this just a mild security misdemeanour right? Poor agency, poor customer experience and poor, incompetent staff; your days in this business are surely numbered?

To be honest I was warned about Harrington's from a friend who was forced to leave his flat due to there unwillingness to deal with mould problems he had so i partially blame myself for not listening to him that they are bad agents. They have the most unreasonable agency fees's I have ever come across. Random numbers they pull out of the air with no explanation to why they cost so much. Clearly going int a post for the annual staff Christmas party. When I moved in they forced me and my girlfriend to pay hundreds of pounds of agency fees each! Even though they were letting us the property based on my salary entirely. Never happened to us before anywhere else we lived. Nor have I been asked to provide a guarantor since I was a student but both me and my partner had to provide one. I was unfortunately made redundant at work and forced to move back to London, primarily to find work, Though I been there 19 months and was well into my second contract, which should have been month to month rolling anyway, they demanded I pay hundreds of pounds of exit fees for them to stick a room add up and pay for everyday after I left the property until the new tenants moved in. As soon as they knew I was out they than went dark and I sent several emails before I got a response again. In which they advised me that they effectively sneaked into the property before I had finished moving out and took pictures before I had cleaned. They not only had the flat cleaned after I did but basically had it renovated in the process and fixed a load of things that should have been fixed before I moved in like the lock for the front door! They are trying to charge us £400 for + £250 to call the cleaners it's a joke! They have charged more in fees than my whole deposit! Just don't use these people until the law changed and prevents sharks like this from existing. Go private or use someone else.

We've been with Harringtons for seven months now and have just renewed our contract as we love it here! We've actually had little contact with them but that's good, because everything has gone really smoothly. Rachel handed us our keys and we moved in without a fault. The property was professionally cleaned and the landlord had replaced the flooring throughout which looked FAB! I would highly recommend Harringtons to anyone who is looking to rent in the area!

For Harrington's, the tenant is not the customer, they are just part of the product to be sold to the landlord. I have never had such a bad experience with a Lettings company. From beginning to end we were told one thing verbally while they got us to sign up to the contrary. During our tenancy their admin team were not helpful. We had the usual various problems you encounter when renting. Things not working, building works. No real effort was made to fix these issues with any speed... We would have to send numerous emails and phone calls to get anything done or even to hear how long something would take. No reduced rent was ever offered for living in reduced conditions. They made it hard for us to leave after telling us we would only have to give two months notice, then made us pay for longer. When we tried to get our deposit back they basically held us to ransom, playing us off against the landlady. After we finally left we were able to speak to our landlady who had apparent been told an entirely different pack of the truth. If I were able to leave less than one star I would. Do not use them.

We were told during our viewing double beds would be arranged. When we moved in we had single beds and the landlady was never made aware of this. We were NOT informed about a new corridor being put in the house taking a 3 meter sqaure chunk out of the living room. After exclaiming that a large living room was why we chose the property in the first place, I sense a practice with questionable morals throughout the team at Harringtons. Any problems arising from their lack of ability to merely communicate between landlord and tennant were palmed off. Difficult to contact, never ring back. Harringtons took a £150 agency fee from each of us totalling £600 to literally provide negative service. Oh, we got a free pizza... £600 pizza, cheers. All in all a bunch of soulless money-grabbing pen-pushers with no common sense. Unhelpful, unprofessional. A bunch of monkeys would have a smaller chance of being as useless. I want my money back, I don't want to be with this company, I wish they didn't exist and their staff would stop being such parasites. Abysmal.

Never ever use this letting agent! The worst agent by far that I have ever come across. As a landlord they may offer a cheap price but that is because they are incompetent. They lost a set of house keys, didn't do all that was asked of them such as the EPC until pestered and didn't fill in the appropriate paperwork for deposits etc. leaving a legal battle. As a tenant they will charge you over the odds and not deliver on an appropriate service. Do not choose them! It will not be worth you while!
