Save yourself the hassle buy elsewhere

Posted a review the other day about all the issues we’ve had. My reply from harron “contact customer service” I’ve done that loads, but if you’re buying on the lavender fold site, be prepared customer service are always “too busy” to answer the calls and never phone back. I’ve lost count of how many calls I’ve made to them in the past 18 months. Save yourself the hassle don’t buy a harron homes. I’ve discovered tonight my windows aren’t fitted correctly either.

New-build property in a time of coronavirus

Our experience in buying a house from Harron Homes has to date, been excellent. This is not because everything has gone absolutely smoothly; we are in the middle of the virus outbreak and there have been delays and numerous difficulties for Harron themselves to deal with. We were concerned about completing at one point, because we had not had the opportunity to inspect the house. Harron's response was that Bob, their Construction Director, came to meet us (suitably distanced) and provided access. What we found was generally highly satisfactory and those points that were not, or which we queried, were dealt with in time for what turned out to be completion ahead of schedule. There are still a few snagging items as you would expect in a brand new house, but they are minor. Our experience of the several sales staff with whom we have dealt has been consistently professional and courteous, and generally they were truly clear about the options available and where those options ended. We were offered some incentives at the point we made our reservation and those have been provided or over-provided (carpets being a case in point, where they have delivered a higher-specification product because the one chosen wasn't available). The health crisis has closed the site for the present and that means there is on-going building work around our property, which is not what we expected. The arrangements have been explained in some detail to us by Bob and so far, have developed exactly as he said. We will monitor further developments but are happy to report that we have every confidence in the builder.

Top quality home? Yeah right

We purchased our Alderton in May 2018, moved in September 2018 on the lavender fold estate. We were so excited, harron couldn’t do enough for us during the reservation process. When we moved in we loved our house, when we moved in, it seemed shiny and new, we were over the moon with it. 2 days later we realised just how many snags we had. Although we seemed better off, the people next door had that many snags they couldn’t move in until 3 months after us. I’ve phoned head office, emailed site managers, phoned site managers, threatened legal action countless times, non of our snags get resolved. They sent someone once to fill some cracks, put some clips on our kickboards and that was that. Our shower base is still cracked, our guttering isn’t on properly, windows aren’t fit properly, external doors cracked, carpet has been laid over a floor that wasn’t swept so you stand on rocks and all kinds of crap when walking over it. The banisters aren’t fixed properly. It’s a mess. Not to mention the hole we have in our kitchen floor that things always seem to crawl through. The materials are so cheap, cheap as possible and terrible workmanship. The biggest issue Though. Our roof. We went on holiday in February, came back to find it hanging off. Site manager ignored my calls, texts, head office never rang me back and were always to busy to take my calls, then the harron home’s Instagram had the nerve to message me saying I would not be covered for roof damage and they will not fix it. Fast forward to now, my roof is still hanging off. Still can’t get hold of site, still can’t sort it out. That once good above and beyond service definitely does not exist when you hand over your money. I’m at the end of my tether with them, I’m so close to rallying neighbours and going to papers and the house builders association with all of our stories and issues. The houses are lovely, a good layout, externally nice. But the workmanship and aftercare is shocking. Don’t waste your money.

Moving during the pandemic

Moved into our new home 2 weeks ago right in the middle of the corona virus pandemic and to say the stress the world is under right now our move has been a breeze, from putting the deposit down on the plot over a year ago to moving in nothing seemed to big or little to the staff at Harron homes, like all new builds there’s the odd few snagging jobs and any jobs that could be safely carried out ie grass/fitting garden gate during this difficult time they have tried there hardest to sort even though we was more than happy to weight. We was very sceptical about buying our first new build as there are so many horror stories but we can honestly say we have enjoy the experience so far. Thank you everyone at Harron homes!!

They are bullies, change their minds and lie through their teeth about everything

We initially reserved plot 71 at Lavender fold back in November. The day after reservation I contacted the office to be honest and tell them we had seen another house with another builder we liked too so was going to decide that week what we wanted to do. The sales woman called me (she stayed late) and shouted at me on the phone for over an hour telling me we were playing a dirty game, and that we were lucky she was selling the house to us. Fast forward a few weeks, the sales manager had got involved and we got an apology. She then couldn’t do enough to help us. 7 weeks later our buyer pulled out of purchasing ours, and Christmas week it needed to go back for sale. Harron told us we could have time to find a new buyer, there was no rush and were generally really good with us. We found a new buyer after 4 weeks and proceeded with the purchase again.During this time I raised the fact I didn’t like any kitchens they offered, and had seen a grey kitchen on another one of their sites and could we have that. We were asked to send a picture of it, the sales woman told us the name of the colour and style, it was in a show home for our house type and that it should be fine. Over the coming weeks we were told that she had asked the sales and site manager about it and that it’s fine. WRONG. They swap sales advisers, the new one says a straight no, it’s not happening. She’s not interested in anything other than saying no. We explained everything and she told us she had a similar grey, they found the sample on the site and could we come have a look ASAP. We both left work early and decided we loved it. A week later, we get a phone call to say she shouldn’t have offered us it as it’s discontinued, so tough luck. We get to day before exchanging contracts; this is when the big issue starts. In January I raised with them my mortgage offer expires beginning of June. Sales manager tells me it’s fine, our house will be ready end of May latest. (We expected March to May). Throughout we had been told beginning of April - Easter time. Their solicitors say end of May. Until, the day before exchange when they decide end of June. My solicitor then tells me she can’t exchange. I called Harron and spoke to a different sales manager, after hearing how upset I was she went to speak to a director and called me back. Because of how far my house was and the delay, they would give us 3 weeks to exchange and do options. This was brilliant as we needed to reapply for our mortgage. 4 days later a different manager called - they’ve changed their minds. We have 5 days to exchange contacts and 4 days to do options or they will relist the house. The house at this time is only just having first floor joists put in and nothing had progressed for 3 weeks. Like they haven’t even laid a single brick but had made out to me the roof is imminently going on. Both me and my solicitor explained that we need to exchange before doing options as they won’t allow them to be paid for later or be refunded if we don’t exchange. Plus, even if we were happy to we were self isolating due to returning from outside the UK a few days prior. They were also told my mortgage offer wouldn’t come back before their deadline. They told us if we wanted the house to do our options before exchange and to exchange without an offer to meet their new unreasonable deadline.Today, the day that they put the deadline on to exchange, I called the site office to see if they had put the options in as we had a new mortgage offer issued this morning. I explained we could proceed that afternoon/the day after if they hadn’t done the choices already. The woman rudely told me that they have been instructed not to speak to me, that we have a deadline to exchange today before the sale is cancelled. The fact I managed to get a mortgage offer within 6 days and was within the initial agreed timescales wasn’t enough. My solicitor then gets an email to say “Matter now cancelled”. What a joke!

Amazing Staff

Staff have been very helpful and informative. Not pushy and really friendly. They have guided us through the process so far with loads of advice. They even informed us that our solicitor had included a fee we didn't need to pay so saved us some money. Julie the sales rep at laughton gate has been amazing, nothing is too much trouble for her.

Honest review and should not be deleted if nothing to hide

Plot 64 Farriers Croft / Purchased a Settle 9/2018Our Harron Homes experience started when we bought the house, nothing was too much trouble, but that all changed when we moved in, once you mention snagging you seem to disappear and don't exist, emails go unanswered, you never get a phone call back, we currently have a leak in the roof of the rear patio area, but all we have had so far is excuses to why they cannot fix this.we live on Pavilion View on the Farriers Croft development and things have got that bad the residents on our street have gone to building control and are currently in talks with the local councillors for the area.So if you want to be disappointed have leaks and have no snags fixed then buy from Harron Homes, my advise is to find a builder that's cares and is not shy about fixings issues.I will increase the rating on a satisfactory fix to the leaking patio area20/2/2020 What a surprise I don’t exist, that’s a Standard reply for a company that runs away from its obligation, funny that the MD’s secretary knows who I am after emailing me and advising that my complaint is being dealt with, so this review is honest and I do have the misfortune of owning a leaking Harron property from new.Well done Harron Homes maybe if you spent this much effort fixing issues you wouldn’t need to continue to try and get honest reviews removed I will update daily on any further steps Harron take to fix mine and many of my neighbours property’s.21/2/2020 no update from Harron Homes, and still no houses on our street being fixed24/2/2020 still no houses being fixed on our street, communication today with Harron Homes but no dates for fixing things for us, so the residents still have leaking houses, poorly fitted roofs, mold which is causing health issues, leaking roofs to name a few things.25/2/2020 Still no change, being ignored by customer service26/2/2020 no contact despite sending emails, and leaving feedback on instagram posts 27/2/2020 Still no contact from Harron, even after sending another email and advising we now have damp in the living room28/2/2020 Harron are still ignoring the situation with myself and my neighbours maybe if people stopped buying the houses they might start to fix the hundreds of houses that have leaks on the developments in the UK.2/3/2020 yet another day goes by with no contact from Harron Homes about the leaking porch area and the damp in the living room.3/3/2020 still not fixing the leaks and picture proof that Harron Homes are breaching it’s own warranties by standing on the porch roof with no scaffolding, just more excuses and no fix yet10/3/2020 still not fixed my issues I have started legal proceedings to get the work done, I would suggest to any potential buyers to stay away, also Harron Homes have now started to ask customers to leave a review when viewing a show home this is the sort of tricks this company do to fool you and hide the truth and its not a true reflection of owning a Horror Home property18/3/2020 today I’ve had progress Harron homes have visited my property to inspect and advised that they will make good the issues in question, I will keep you posted

York Vale Gardens (Howden)

We reserved our new house off plan at York Vale Gardens (Howden) at the end of September and the help from Philippa, Angie (Sales Executives) & Amanda Thomas (Sales Manager) has been exceptional. We decided to Part Exchange our house and the process was very straight forward and professional we were given a very good price for our home which gave us the opportunity and confidence to reserve the plot that we both liked. From picking our choices to keeping us informed of the build stages the service from has been great. I must also mention that we looked at other house builders and at Harron Homes you get a far better specification as standard. We are very pleased with the detached house and we are enjoying living in Howden. As expected with most new builds you do naturally have snagging issues but site and sales were happy to put these right and the aftercare has been good so far. I would have no issues recommending Harron Homes to my friends or family.Mr & Mrs RJ Bassford

Kingscroft, Killinghall

We recently reserved a beautiful stone detached property in Killinghall, North Yorkshire. We have a buyer for our current home thanks to the Harron Homes home-mover scheme and so far we are delighted. The location is perfect for us with amenities, public transport and countryside walks practically on our doorstep, and the development itself promises to be quiet, charming and full of character. We have friends living in a Harron home elsewhere who recommended the company, but Sophie in the sales office has been one of the main factors in our decision. She is extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful and professional, a credit to the company.Things have been going very smoothly and we’re very excited to move into our luxurious new home this Spring.

Avoid Harron Homes at all costs

Avoid Harron Homes at all costs. i purchased a property on the Regents Green site on 23rd December 2016. on handover the house wasn't even complete with wet plaster in the utility room and lounge. a back door that couldn't be opened fully or even locked. The work men had also damaged our tiled floor and walked on it with extremely muddy boots. The carpet fitters refused to lay the carpets due to the state the house had been left in by the builder which took us 3 weeks to clean for the carpet company to be happy to install all floor coverings. Over 2 years on and we still have 2 sides of A4 paper full of snagging to be completed, this isn't all minor things some issues are internal doors that don't fit into the door frames walls that need re-plastering for a second time due to them not being flat. after 1 year we had to have a new kitchen installed as the original one wasn't fitted correctly and had loads of accessories and extras missing. During the time of the new kitchen installation a member of the Harron Homes snagging team was sacked due to going through draws in rooms he shouldn't of been in all caught on CCTV. now as it stands and being out of the 2 year period Harron Homes refuse to finish all of the snagging works we have had since day 1. The workman ship that has been carried out since us moving in is of a very poor standard. in total i have over 2500 pictures of issues with our property still waiting to be rectified. Oaklands Health Development

We moved into our home on the Oaklands Heath development in Birchencliffe in December 2019. The house is beautiful and we haven't had any major issues or concerns whatsoever. Our initial snag list was addressed and resolved very efficiently and little bits since (e.g. replacing some tile grouting) have been dealt with straight away without any difficulty.A year later (and the site still being developed) I have just emailed the site office to ask if someone could come around to look at our back door lock as it wasn't working properly. I wasn't sure if this would happen after been in the house for a year and to be honest, all I expected was some advice with what to ask a locksmith for. Within half an hour however, the site manager had come over and resolved the issue himself, no doubt saving us some money. From the sales team, to the site manager, all the way through to the workers on site, we have to say have all been brilliant. Based on our experience and from discussions with our neighbours, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Harron Home.

Hockley Croft

Hockley Croft - couldn't do less than 1 star or I would haveHarron homes take ignoring customer service to a new level, paid for extras not fitted, leaking plumbing, badly done plaster and painting, external pipe work not sealed, internal fans fitted with no external outlet, 5 scratched windows needing to be replaced, every door had to be refit or replaced. No real sign off house was ready to be lived in, bullying tactics by their solicitors & still awaiting snagging issues nearly a year on.11 months in and even the site managers can't tell you when replacement fittings have been ordered. House looks like its still needs to be finished walls / ceilings / doors all need to be repaintedWouldn't buy from them ever again not for any deal. I would advise anyone not to buy and if you have already reserved to get out.Just to point out the comment from Harron Homes is after 2 years after I have posted this if you look at other comments wonder if its a cut and paste responce. All they are trying to do is make people think they are putting things right when they don't.They are not liasing with me at all and do a very poor job in putting anything right or feel there is no need to compenstate you for your time or inconvenience.over a year after I moved in. I need to replace the kitchen top as it was not fitted correctly and water has made the counter top bubble as this was not sealed correctly (or in Harron Homes terms this is wear and tear) which I wouldn't expect to replace a kitchen top that early. If people ar reading this I still wouldn't buy from Harron Homes again.

Beware of extra estate charges for freehold properties

I am really disappointed because of lack of transparency during selling stage. I have not bought anything from them so far although I am still tempted by a couple of houses they sell. However customer service skills of the sales teams from few developments discouraged me successfully to reserve my dream property. Unless you ask questions, which seems to be uncomfortable to Harron Homes team, you cannot expect any clarification regarding any additional charges coming with the whole package of buying 'freehold' property. They will not tell you that property may be on unadopted road neither. They will tell you it's too maintain green area or roads but they will not mention legal and practical consequences of having freehold property on private estate they build.1. All service charges are uncapped, they can rise unreasonably and you cannot do anything about it as you have no rights to challenge it. You have more protection having leasehold property. Freeholders on private estate are not protect by law. 2. If you do not pay them on time, maintenance company may posses your property, while when you own lesdhold property - your debts are passed to court. 3.You pay full council tax on the top of service charges for 'private' area which can be accessed by anyone. It's not adopted by council, that is why it's called private but in practice is public as anyone can come there and play, damage something but you as a resident will pay for all damages.4. You will struggle to sell it in the future as some banks already refuse mortgages to freehold properties with uncapped service charges as this area is completely not regulated by law so you may end up in unsellable and unmortgagable house. I am writing this as so many developers prefer to not mention anything at any stage. It's a simple breach of Conduct of Ethics by Ombudsman. Harron Homes Sales teams do not like any these kind of uncomfortable questions and become very defensive when you ask too much, and never come back to you with all answers. Sometimes I think they themselves are even not aware what they talk about as they seems to be surprised by any other questions not related to home upgrade.Ask, ask and ask for extra charges and challenge them as nothing going to change otherwise. In the whole process of selling the colour of floor tiles or kitchen units should be the last part of your purchase talk - not the other way around. Do not let them make you blind by giving you extra free wardrobe and forgetting about life long consequences of your decision to buy property with service charges which possibly may double every year.

terrible company to buy your property from

We bought a Salcombe at Farrier’s Croft in October 2018. We had a number of snags which included a number of missing bricks on the front, side and back walls of the property plus some missing bricks on the back garden wall. No idea how it passed the completion certificate with missing bricks. We also have a porch which has been leaking since we moved in and a garage which has been leaking as well. These are just the few of many snags we have. Needless to say nothing has been sorted out. The customer services of Harron homes is terrible to say the least. (Plot 73)

Shocking from start to still not finished! Was rushed into our home months early - had we not have part exchanged we would have refused to move in.Snag list was unbelievably long. No fire door, wrong window bay for the style of home, wonky walls, wrong size bath, wrong room sizes, tiles not fitted, shower head not fitted, lights missing, too small garden etc - I’d be here all day if I were to list everything. So far we have spent thousands trying to get this right. Over a month of days off work for nobody to turn up or works to still be wrong. Moved in October 2018 and finally got the directors involved in January 2020 due to getting fed up.Solicitors have been refused contact, independent surveyor has had to be hired etc. Beautiful style homes but aftercare and cost cutting is at another level.I would never buy a home from Harron again. Had they just put everything right we would have been happy.Abysmal

Manor Farm Snaith

Manor Farm - 1 Talbot RowI would advise that if anyone decides to purchase a house from Harron Homes that they expect their home to have a myriad of faults. To get them rectified you will have to virtually harass them daily, otherwise they will not act to resolve your issues. They talk about their “Quality system” and the number of checks they have on each home. My experience is that this system does not exist, as each time you contact them you will have to remind them; they appear to have no system to respond to the issues with their poorly finished homes. After 2 years of chasing faults I’m currently seeking legal advice to legally force them to complete the issues with my home. I hate having to do this as I have a very busy life and really don’t have the time. However having shared my issues with a number of the senior management in December, I have not received any response to resolve my issues. They clearly do not care.

Far from luxury

Do not buy one of these homes. The finish on ours is terrible. We are on the sandlands park site at hucknall. We have damp on the outside of our brickwork. They say it is guttering but a builder has told us it's the damp tray leaking. We've had two showers leak through the ceiling. The bedroom below is freshly decorated and although they have sorted the leak they are refusing to pay for the damaged caused. We've had pages and pages of snagging items some of them are just horrendous. I would not recommend buying a property from them.

Harron Homes Amberwood Chase Phase 4

We have just reserved our first new build house and I must say that I was very impressed with Jane Jubb, she was ever so friendly and welcoming. She catered to our requirements and let us make decisions without us being rushed into committing. She was very open and frank with us which is very important. Both me and my husband would recommend our family and friends to see Jane Jubb as she is definitely amazing and knows the ins and out of the industry. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. She put us through to evolve immediately. Thanks from Mr. MA and Mrs. BN

Harron Homes Brierley Heath

We reserved our future home in October and from looking at other show homes to now, our journey with Harron Homes has been nothing but enjoyable. All the staff we have encountered have been helpful and friendly. At Brierley we have been in regular contact with the sales executive on the progress. Our latest appointment was to go and meet the site manager, who spoke to us about the progress of our home then walked us around our home checking all the electrics were in the correct place before plaster, also any other issues or thoughts could be raised. This for us was a massively important feature so that any easy adjustments could be made. Aidy & Joel are the site managers who took us for the tour were brilliant, any queries that were made on the day were answered via email by the end of that day. Karen & Julie who are the sales executives are always welcoming and really do go the extra mile for you! Strongly recommend purchasing a home from this development. The houses appear to be a real good standard compared to other companies we viewed before reserving with Harron. Really looking forward to the final stage of moving into our new home!
