TrustpilotAwful management and communication
As per all the other negative reviews - terrible communication - poorly written emails, unprofessional in manner and just awful to deal with. From moving into property, water pressure issues and constant cold showers. After months of back and forth was told (by a manager) 'oh well you are on a rolling contract, so you can just find another property' as appose to just having the issue fixed? Turns out it was a pump needed for the boiler, and of course the landlord did not want to pay as it was 'expensive'. It wasn't. Paying over a grand a month for no hot showers and terrible management is expensive. Clearly they prioritise landlords and not tenants. We left as suggested and do not recommend for renting at all - save your self the stress and sour puss faces.

GoogleI've just completed on the sale of my property with Gascoigne Halman and I can highly recommend their service. John is an excellent, experienced branch manager, a safe pair of hands with a real understanding of the market. I dealt with Chloe day to day and she is a brilliant, knowledgable point of contact. The sale wasn't straightforward but she kept things on track, an excellent communicator making sure the sale remained on track through some bumps in the road. The team provided an excellent service from start to finish. I would highly recommend their services.

TrustpilotHighly recomment Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield
After 3 aborted sales with Purple Bricks which consumed 14 stressful months due to lack of support, wrong price, no vetting of purchasers, etc., etc. I decided to use Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield to sell our house. Within 1 week Matthew Clark and his team had vetted a new purchaser who was right for our property, truly had the funds, and was highly likely to follow through to completion (which they did).I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman enough for their proactive advice and follow-up, aiding the purchaser and keeping me informed. I found them friendly and easy to communicate with. No waiting for someone to answer the phone for inquiries and prompt replies on email. When the exchange of contacts and completion time came, they helped pressure crucial solicitor communication so that we met the target dates keeping me (the seller) and the purchaser happy. I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield enough. Thanks, folks, you deserve the credit, and will be using you again for another property sale.

GoogleAfter initially being hesitant about whether to start the house buying and selling process, we got some great advice from Karen who very kindly let us view some houses that were on the market with GH to get us an idea of what was out there and decide if it we wanted to list our house. From this experience, we decided to put our house on the market with Gascoigne Halman and it sold within a week. Throughout the whole sales process, Chloe was really helpful, positive and reassuring. She always answered my many worried phone calls and emails and helped to see our sale through to a happy conclusion. Karen and John were also fantastic at picking up the cause if Chloe was unavailable and the whole team was always really helpful. Despite being a national chain, it really felt like a personal, local service. We're now settled in our lovely new home and couldn't be happier.

TrustpilotNegligent - Do not rent from them
My husband and I moved into a property managed by letting agents Gascoigne Halman in Chapel en le Frith in November 2022. From the start we had major issues with the property; it hadn't been cleaned, the water pressure was terrible, in fact prior to us moving in after pointing out some defects during a viewing the electricity board had to be brought in to make the electrics safe! There was rubbish left in the loft and cellar and an open manhole cover with standing water in the basement with a pump in it. We had been told this was a usable storage space by the agents. It was not. It flooded more than once ruining our property and was horrendously damp. The wetness in the cellar rose through the house making it constantly damp and mouldy. The window frames were so rotten you could push your finger through them. The front door lock was insecure and you could push the door open with a hard shove. The shower seal was leaky and caused staining downstairs. The shower barely worked then stopped altogether. I believe the property would have been below the required EPC rating for letting if it were tested last year. These are just a few of the catalogue of defects. (I have photographic evidence of all of this). It took months to get some these things rectified and over 200 emails. I have made clear that one of my emails be treated as an official complaint but nothing has come of it. Often we were simply told 'the landlord doesn't want to spend any more money on the property'.We requested a reduced rent rate from £900 to £500 expecting a negotiation with the landlord. He took over a month to respond and then offered £850 despite our explaining the extensive damage to our property and us having paid for a shed to move our things from the cellar. The agents then sent messages chasing arrears. After continuing to press for the landlord to fulfill his legal obligations we were eventually hand delivered a section 21 notice (our tenancy should have run until November and they delivered this in June which I think may be in breach of the rules). The landlord claimed to not be able to afford repairs and needed to sell the property. This all happened over an 8 month period and I have to believe there is some sort of recourse for us. The property should not have been let in that state and we should be able to claim damages for our ruined property and loss of income (I work from home as a contractor). Having rented for over 20 years I have never had such a terrible experience. We moved back to Chapel to be closer to my elderly parents to care for them and now because of the lack of affordable, appropriate property we have had to move further away ultimately making them suffer. We have contacted the property ombudsman who have advised we have a case against Gascoigne Halman we just need to to follow it up. We have managed to find a private let and now moved at great personal expense through no fault of our own. Our new property is clean, well cared for and seems heaven after 9 Cross Street.

I would give less stars if possible
During the tenancy it started already. the garage door fell down TWICE. and it took them 10 months to fix. Only when i started to not pay the full rent they started acting fixing it 2 months before we needed to leave the premisis
Altough they make a check in and check out report they dont look at it. Claiming ridiculous amounts of money for things that where already like that before we moved in as visible on the checkin report.
We've been waiting for 2months now to get our deposit back and they keep answering once every 3weeks if we're lucky and if they read our 10emails every 3 weeks to remind them

TrustpilotIf I could give them 0 stars I would.
If I could give them 0 stars I would.
From the outset they seem great, but as soon as the agreement is signed they stop caring about anything except getting the rent in each month.
They'll happily let themselves in without speaking to you, they say that they only have to send an email 24hrs in advance.
They never return calls. They ignore maintenance requests and then try to say that you damaged things that never worked and were highlighted on the initial move in.
As for returning your deposit, I am currently going through a claim against them through the dps as after 4 weeks of vacating at the end of tenancy, they have not done a thing woth regards to authorising the return of deposit. Once you aren't paying them rent anymore, they won't return calls, messages, emails. Go in in person and funnily enough, "oh sorry, they've left for the day and I work in a different dept. I'll leave them a message and get them to call you in the morning"
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

GoogleI recently sold my house and purchased a new one with the Glossop Gascoigne team.
John couldn't have been more professional. I had a great experience and a lot of help buying and selling from himself and Karen. They answered every question I had and were always happy to do so. Behind the scenes they worked hard to get the sale and purchase over the line.
I also think Gascoigne Glossop have the most accurate valuations in the area. My house sold quickly and for a good/fair price. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

GoogleVery poor experience several months ago with Gascoigne.
I don't know if it was due to my partner and I being first-time buyers, or if it was just the influence of a poor seller, but we were gazumped and the total lack of professionalism and the pure run around from the team there has left a bitter taste in my mouth and given me a poor view of them.
If you're first-time buyers I cannot recommend engaging with the Glossop branch at the very least.
Buying with a nearby competitor we found the experience was 10 times better, with more updates, better information, and an increased amount of respect.
*UPDATE*
Okay since the manager has simply (and rather lazily) copied and pasted the de-escalation email he sent to us months ago (after we stated we wanted to make a formal complaint,) I will have to reaffirm some things.
Speaking directly to you. Gascoigne and Halman failed us. You and your branch for lack of a better word failed us.
You got us hyped about a house. You told us we were chosen, over the cash buyers because the seller was such a great guy. You then told us to get everything in order, rush around and get a solicitor, which we did despite going on holiday, and you did all this knowing we were first-time buyers.
We updated you at every step and you were suspiciously quiet for weeks on end. It doesn't matter if you want to blame the market, or if you want to blame the seller. You have to take responsibility.
As it was, you called us back months later asking if we were still interested, so I can only assume things didn't pan out with those cash buyers.
I'm sure you have had some great experiences selling people's houses, but you completely messed up selling us the house in question. But it's okay because one of your competitor's next door decided to pick up the slack.
You gave us a bad experience, and for the most part, I do believe it was part incompetence, but another part of me believes... well I won't throw conjecture.
I hope you take this as a learning experience and don't fail the next excited couple looking for that first positive experience.

Hi Thomas & Max,
I’m writing to you in my capacity as the branch manager of Gascoigne Halman Glossop office and in response to your email below.
Unfortunately I wasn’t in the branch this weekend or I would have been on hand myself to explain the chain of events.
First and foremost, I’m very sorry that you have lost out on this property and can empathise somewhat with how you feel, having experienced something similar myself many years ago. Thankfully I was successful on a different property some weeks later and looking back it all worked out ok, but the anger, frustration and disappointment I felt at the time wasn’t pleasant at all. In fact it still frustrates today as I drive past the property in question frequently.
I would like to clarify at this point that as the selling agent we are obliged to follow our clients instructions. We cannot be held accountable for our clients actions/decisions. Perhaps things could have been communicated differently to you this weekend, but I would like to reassure you that nothing untoward has gone on here. You were not ever a “reserve” and only one offer (yours) was accepted originally.
I have spoken to the vendor this morning to confirm his decision and he is very apologetic and understands your anger/frustration. His sentiment about having been a first time buyer himself was I believe a very genuine one at the time.
However, having now found a property himself that he wished to offer on, he feels that he had to act in the way that he did in order to secure said property. The decision rested entirely on three factors:
1. We hadn’t received an access call from your lender to conduct a survey.
2. The seller of the property our client is interested in indicated through their agent that they were nervous about being in a chain where no survey had been carried out yet to first time buyers in the current climate, I suspect the agent may have played a guiding role here on their clients behalf.
3. The cash buyers hadn’t ever completely walked away, asking to be kept in reserve if circumstances changed.
All of the above points resulted in us being asked by our client to see if the cash buyers were in fact still interested. When it transpired that they were, a chain of events unfolded that led us to have to call you to inform you of the bad news, that our client had now chosen to switch to the cash buyers to help him secure a property himself. Arguably this doesn’t look good on either our client, or ourselves as his representative, but I genuinely believe that had the mortgage market not been turned upside down this last couple of weeks you would not find yourself in this position. Your survey would probably have already been booked in on Cliffe Road and the seller and agent of the property our client wishes to purchase would not have given a second thought about a survey not having been done yet.
These are truly unprecedented times in the housing market and some of the behaviour we are seeing is not entirely dissimilar to the market behaviour we experienced back in 2008/2009. I can only offer our sincerest and heartfelt apologies that you have not been successful on this occasion and whilst I note that you do not wish to attempt to buy through ourselves in the future I do hope that you will reconsider this point should we be able to find a suitable alternative property for you, as we wouldn’t hesitate to call you to see if you wished to view through ourselves in the future.
In terms of our internal complaints procedure, we have already now completed the first phase. Should you wish to take your complaint further then I will bring the matter to the attention of our sales director.
Whatever happens next for you both I/we genuinely wish you every success with your efforts to secure a place to call home. I do believe that opportunities will continue to come your way and hope that like with my own experiences it all works out for the best.
Kind Regards
John

Trustpilot'Its a landlord's / Agencies world.. we just live in it'
'Its a landlord's / Agencies world... and we all just live in it'..
I recently rented a house in Frodsham and on return of the property, despite a gold star check out report, the lack of communication regarding my deposit refund was horrific.. multiple calls, emails, 'I can't reach the Landlord', 'let me check and get back to you' it became farcical. I was then hit with an 80% claim by the landlord against my deposit for made up broken items and repairs. The check out team in Macclesfield did not care, emails not responded to, nonsense chatter blaming the Frodsham branch who apparently were in conversations with the landlord regarding re listing the property, however the check out team in Macclesfield could not reach him. The emphasis clearly was to talk to the landlord about more money for him, more money for GH and just leave me and hopefully I will go away.
I asked to speak to the branch manager at Macclesfield who did call me, she also didn't know what was going on so said she would follow up and help. Needless to say this was the one and only time I heard from her, not even a courtesy call or anything...
I obviously rejected the claim by the landlord and
fast forward 4 months since we left the property, the DPS have awarded our deposit in almost its entirety, so the greed of the landlord did not win in this case, quite rightly... and if GH would have consulted with him and me better from the start we maybe could have avoided such a mentally straining 4 months for me.
I understand they are acting on the landlords wishes, however, the sheer disregard for the tenant was freighting.
I now own a property so renting is not something I plan on doing in the near future, however should the need arise, I will never use GH again for their services, nor will I engage with them in any future business.
Note - this mainly refers to the Macclesfield Branch.

TrustpilotSelling a house during lockdown and a cold winters
The sale of my house took place during very difficult circumstances as the U.K. AND ISLE Of MAN were in lock down during different periods during the sale process .I couldn’t visit the property. The property had been rented with Gascoigne Halman for 12 Year before I sold it . The asking price was set at a good level the brochure was produced in a couple of daysand the sale proceeded well .The first buyers who bought the house within days they couldn’t get the mortgage they needed so the house went back on the market and sold again within a relatively short period of time in 5 months Oct to March the whole process was completed.I was kept up to date with emails and phone calls every time there was a viewingI had dealings with mainly one sales person James but when he was off others kept me informed Sue the sales secretary was also good at answering queries connected with the sales process. As I was at a distance I used a solicitor recommended by GH and was pleased with there services I also used an insurance company that was local.During the cold spell when prospective buyers visited James made sue the house was warm enough to prevent issues with burst pipes I was also alerted to problems with the loft door and garage door and was then able to use GH property maintenance to solve several issues.I think James gave the sale a personal touchFor me the all round service GH provided was very helpful in difficult working circumstances .I am very pleased with the outcome and would recommend them

TrustpilotFrances Mason used our family and encouraged gazumping offers IMO
Frances Mason used our family to pump up other offers for the seller. She confirmed after a long and arduous process we'd had our offer accepted. She then encouraged the vendor and buyers carry on viewings in our opinion to gazump us. She knowing didn't send out a memorandum of sale to us for 5 days whilst getting other parties to outbid us. After we paid for searches etc Frances informed us someone had come in with another bid.......from there played us off as an auction for bidding. Then told us we didn't get the house. The next day it was put as STC for the other buyer. Something she refused to do for us in 5 days. She openly admitted on the phone she knew of another bid hence when she didn't do the memorandum of sale. She let us pay for searches while using us a pawn. It was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with any kind of company. There was no remorse and I don't know how she sleeps at night for a little but extra of commission.Openly trying to get improved offers and more viewing whilst sending us acceptance confirmation and letting us pay fees is a very very underhanded trick.

What went wrong? Well I was advised by this agency that the property had come off the market once my holding deposit was paid. Upon submitting my credentials for referencing which was with let alliance, I was advised by "Charlotte" a representative at Gascoigne Halman that the landlord has gone with another offer and would rather refund my holding deposit then proceed with my application. Honestly Disappointed with the service provided by this agency. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING WITH THIS AGENCY
