GoogleJudging by the other reviews on here I am the outlier, but I found Devenports chaotic and near useless in my search for a property. The (pleasant but slightly panicky-sounding) lady who called me up a couple of times was always rushing and for some reason never seemed able to send me any specific property details via email. The only emails I did get during those three or so weeks were generic ones for "off market" properties not in my favoured area and way outside my stated budget. Luckily we have since found somewhere to buy, fairly easily as it happens..

Thank you for your review, it seems you cannot please everyone despite our best efforts.
I have been trying to search for an applicant record for yourself, but cannot find a record (perhaps you use a different name for your google account?).
As a local business and local resident we pride ourselves on our reputation so I was slightly disappointed that if you were so unimpressed with our service then you have not reached out to myself or James as owners directly as any grievance you had could have been dealt with directly to improve the service you have received rather than posting on a public forum which served you or I no better in improving the service you received.
Whilst we take your feedback on board, it would be really good to arrange a call perhaps to find out directly what’s occurred here, as from reading the review, just as it stands it does appear rather bizarre in parts.
In response to some of the points you have made . . .
Experienced Staff - This is a first for us, as we pride ourselves on the fact that our team are incredibly experienced (average of 9 years across the board) and spend time fostering relationships with our buyers, you can understand it was surprising to hear that you were 'rushed off the phone' as this is certainly in our teams interest to keep you on as long as possible as we want to get to know you as a buyer and really found out what you are looking for, this approach helps us in securing more sales.
Email Leads - I do find this incredibly challenging to comprehend with no context, to send an email from our system is physically 3 clicks of a button and my team get paid in large via commission. Therefore, for a member of staff to take the time to actually phone you ' a couple of times' but then to not send the details you requested would be literally pointless and a complete waste of their own time. For you then to go onto say you have received 'off market' emails but not normal details make it sound even more farfetched. With regards the 'off market' emails, we are not going to apologise for given buyers a heads up on properties which are not yet advertised on Rightmove, just as a property on Rightmove may not be of interest when it appears this is not something you would be offended by, so I urge the same approach when it comes to a property not being of your taste for these emails. My point being with this though, which I am sure you can appreciate is that why would my team make an effort on sharing details with you of properties which are not yet on the market, whilst at the same time ignoring you requests and making their own lives harder by the not sending you the details of properties which are on the market?
Finally, Devenports accurately list all of their properties correctly as under offer or available on Rightmove, we can name at least 4 local agents which leave everything available which many buyers understandably find irritating. Given you are not interested in the properties we have sent you which are not yet advertised, I am struggling to see how you could be offended given all of our properties which you could be sent details of are listed on the web portals? If something was of interest why not enquire and phone in? Of course I would understand if your complaint was that no-one at Devenports has phoned you back but this clearly is not the case, nor is it something that would happen at our company.
As the owner of the company I am not upset you have wrote us a low review, our review infact serves as a good reminder of why my team go the extra mile which has led us to securing the good reputation that we have.

We had quite a few challenges after we accepted an offer on our home and she was brilliant at managing this, our buyers and their solicitors. She kept us updated throughout and was always available to chat through what was happening. I'm not sure our sale would have gone through without Nina.

It is safe to say, as a team they are by far the most proactive agent I have ever come across. Since our first meeting just over a week ago they have been in constant contact regarding buyers all of which have viewed our property today generating two full asking price offers. It’s very noticeable that while Devenports have a five star rating here, the ratings are almost all from buyers, few are from sellers so as a potential seller, I’ll right that wrong.
I chose Devenports to market my property earlier this year, it was an utter failure. Things started out with Aaron and James providing a valuation for my place which I thought was way out of line and far too high but they were insistent that based on their research (not detailed other than they ‘knew’ the market locally) the price was achievable. I agreed a price with them at the bottom of their valuation. I pointed out the positives and the shortcomings of my property and they appeared to have taken them on board.
Several viewings later there was no progress and not a hint of an offer. When I asked for feedback all I was told was that people were unhappy about the shortcomings and when I asked about the strengths, I was told people ‘weren’t interested’ in them and they didn’t matter to people so things like one more bedroom than adjacent properties count for nothing? I’m amazed. I thought bedrooms counted for a great deal.
Aaron then asked to meet with me and not for the first time he was over an hour late for the meeting. He then suggested a 20% reduction in the price. I was stunned, that was way below the price of any property locally including significantly smaller ones but he told me that in his opinion that was the valuation. I later learned he had one offer for 20% less than the asking price but that was not acceptable to me. I questioned his original valuation and all I can say is that he reminded me of a blond haired, over weight politician for bluster and lies in his response.
Curious and concerned about what was going on I asked a friend to mystery shop Devenports and request a viewing. She did and it was arranged. She said from beginning to end she was rushed by James who failed to answer any of her prepared questions about the positives of the flat with a bored and disinterested response that he would check with me. She said if her questions were answered, she would almost certainly make an offer. The viewing lasted twelve minutes before James rushed her out. I’m still waiting for the questions to be asked by James and as a consequence, over a month later, I have ceased the relationship with Devenports, a firm run by two chancers who are full of bluster. They may deliver for some, they didn’t for me. One star is one too many.
They may now claim in a response that I am not a client but they knew me in my maiden name so their claim is disingenuous.

Reading this review, really has stirred a whole range of professional & personal emotions and when considering our response here both James & I in true Devenports fashion have decided to really place on heart on our sleeves.
Frankly, it has really taken us both back as to seemingly the unabashed lengths a person / company could go to in attempting to besmirch our reputation. Whilst reading the personal & at points rather venomous nature of this review, we were of course concerned as to what our Hampton & Teddington public may make of this. After all, this is our business and along with our team truly do give our all each and every day.
We could not help but think . . . What will people think when reading this? How could someone say something so untrue? What type of person could make something like this up? How possibly could we have upset someone like this?
It then dawned us . . . .
This isn't true
This is coming from a person we have never done business with and who we do not know. (We did acknowledge the last line of your review in which you attempted to cement your point by pre-empting us stating the truth)
The whole of the Hampton community knows us and truly knows the wild falsehoods stated here would never relate to us as people.
Devenports, would never operate in anyway as this person described and what's better is, we are confident our local community knows it.
We understand, us entering into the marketplace has clearly impacted some other local businesses and perhaps invoked some rather scathing feelings as it has impacted their own businesses.
So rather than allowing one person’s efforts to upset or unsettle the good work that we do here, we instead are going to carry doing just what we have always done. By keep supporting our local schools, engaging with seemingly half of Teddington & Hampton, continuing to never place a commission above a relationship and to truly go about the business of estate agency in a moral, ethical and decent way. Judging by the number of genuine reviews and the number of our boards locally we really feel local people will not be easily swayed by such a review.
As always at Devenports we want the public to have full faith in all that we do, and in no way would we ever discourage a genuine client or customer posting a review even if one day it truly was regarding a negative experience, but in our view and we feel strongly about this particularly regarding any independent business that these reviews should be accountable and genuine.
So, to round off, we will place the ball back in your court on this one and we will let the court of public opinion decide what is true and what is not.
