My young family and I were due to move into a property this January. We viewed the property a month before, and Sharman Quinney sent us a contract to sign. Throughout the process communication was very poor. We rang the office more or less everyday in the week up to the move as we had yet to receive a signed contract from the landlord. We were assured everything was progressing but 48 hours before we were due to move in (a date that was agreed by both parties), Sharman Quinney revealed that they had had no contact with the landlord for ten days. Because we were due to be moving in two days time, we had organised movers, new nurseries and schools for our children, and end of tenancy cleaners. All this cost considerable time and money. Sharman Quinney then confessed that the property would not be able to be let to us as there was a burst pipe. Even if this were true, all of this could have been communicated to us days before. If there had been worryingly no contact with the landlord, this should’ve been said to us. Instead, we were left homeless and now have nowhere to move into. As a mother of a family of two children under four, this is incredibly distressing.

The worst experience we have ever had with an estate agent. We had an offer accepted on a property that was being sold by Sharman Quinney - the process of it being accepted was awful within itself. They delayed putting offers forward until we accepted meetings with their mortgage brokers/solicitors etc - even when we had our own mortgage broker who had called them directly and proved our financial eligibility to them. At one point I was told "just meet with our brokers as it will really show the sellers you're committed to the property." I'm sorry but our offer of over asking price should show this? I've never experienced such unprofessionalism and pushing of services. It then got worse. After having an offer accepted, there was the slightest hiccup in our chain a week in. Instead of giving us a couple of hours to try and resolve the issue with our chain, SQ had quite obviously gone to the sellers and told them to drop us as buyers and go back to the party we were originally bidding against. From the moment we were notified there was an issue with our chain, we were given less than 3hrs before SQ told us the sellers were dropping us because they were "too spooked" and even if we could prove our chain was fine by the end of the day, they still wouldn't accept us as buyers as we don't seem to be reliable. Funnily enough, 2 hrs later we had confirmation that there was absolutely nothing wrong with our chain and it had been a big game of Chinese whispers and miscommunication, that we weren't given the grace of 24hrs to get to the bottom of. My partner emailed SQ to let them know our chain was still intact. We then get a call two days later to be told "the sellers would like to move forward with your offer." What? After being told we'd been dropped and the sellers had gone with another buyer, we're now being told the sellers would like to move forward with us? Clearly the other buyers were not viable and rather than being honest about this, SQ then tried to make out that they'd personally convinced the sellers to go back with us. The narrative they tried to spin was laughable. After a weekend of mulling it over, we decided we no longer wanted to purchase the property. This was not because we didn't love the house, but because we couldn't bear to deal with the dishonesty and unprofessionalism of SQ anymore. Buying and selling houses is stressful enough and SQ only added to that. We sent a polite message to SQ letting them know this, and they didn't even have the courtesy to reply. Since then, we had an offer accepted on a house with Annafield estate agents. The process we went through was SO straightforward and I felt like I was being spoken to like an adult, rather than being lied to constantly. It was actually exciting (as buying a house should be).

As soon as I contacted SQ’s, I came into contact and met with Charmaine Tucker. She had such professionalism and was so supportive, friendly and easy to speak to re concerns. Tried to rent a flat with them. Explained everything regarding my addresses and they said it’s going to be okay. 10 days later they turn around and say your application has been denied and won’t send my holding fee back and claim I lied on the application. The agents rush applications and the whole system is looking to fail your application so they keep the holding fee. Don’t go with them they will cheat you. Not helpful and treat you like a machine with no feelings. Even out the phone down on me when I request to speak to a manager to get a better explanation. Very sad.
